To assess the psychometric properties of the Croatian version of a Work Ability Index Questionnaire (WAIQ-CRO) in the population of nurses by using a specific methodological approach.
A ...cross-sectional survey was conducted in a sample of 711 Croatian nurses in 2018 in Zagreb, Croatia. The instrument's internal consistency was assessed by using Cronbach's alpha coefficient (α). The factor structure was verified by confirmatory (CFA) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA), with the assumption of a single-factor structure. To ensure the equality of importance of items in the assessment, the item-specific scores were transformed.
The internal consistency of the instrument was satisfactory (α=0.71). CFA showed poor first model (Model-1) compatibility data (p<0.001, CFI=0.85, GFI=0.93, RMSEA=0.13). The modificated indexes suggested the introduction of correlation parameters residual variances of results from WAIQ-CRO Item-1 and Item-2. After introducing these covariances, the index model assentation (Model-2) showed desirable assentation measures (p<0.001, CFI=0.95, GFI=0.97, RMSEA=0.08). Comparison showed better compatibility of Model-2 (p<0.001). The implementation of EFA has identified three factors. Replication of this model in CFA resulted in relatively good model assentation approaches with data (p<0.001, CFI=0.96, GFI=0.98, RMSEA=0.07). Comparison of this model (Model-3) with Model-2 showed a significantly better compatibility of Model-3 (p<0.001).
The WAIQ-CRO proved to be a reliable and valid instrument which can be used in research among Croatian nurses. The results suggest that it would be better to consider a three-factor structure than a single-factor structure, as a three-factor structure can direct decision-makers to which segment to locate interventions.
Current research promotes complementary methods of coping with menstrual pain (MP). Our objective was to examine the effectiveness of the Kinesio Taping (KT) intervention on MP and determine whether ...KT has therapeutic impact or whether there is presence of placebo. We used crossover design, dividing 30 female participants into KT and placebo KT groups. Every phase included one menstrual cycle. The average age of participants was 23.5 years (ranging from 18 to 39 years). In the assessment, we used VAS, Brief Pain Inventory Scale, and some SF-36 subscales. In KT phase all types of pain (the average MP, the worst experienced MP, the mildest one, and the current MP) were significantly less intense. KT has beneficial effect in reducing MP and its consequences and it is significantly superior to placebo. The order of intervention showed no statistical significance, which also confirms the therapeutic effect of KT.

Alpine skiing is one of the most dangerous winter sports that entails a high number of injuries, most commonly affecting the knee. Kinesiophobia is a condition in which an individual experiences fear ...of physical movement and activity as a result of feeling susceptible to injuries or recurrent injuries. The objective was to examine the level of kinesiophobia in skiers who have sustained knee injuries.
The sample consisted of 22 female and 11 male professional skiers, with the average age of 24 ± 7.391 years. For the purpose of the assessment, the Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK) was employed.
The number of knee injuries in skiers totals at least 1 and 11 at most, on average 2.45, most commonly involving the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. There were no significant differences between the left and the right knee or bilateral injuries. The average score in the TSK totals 36 points, which is close to the critical threshold of 37 points. 36% of the participants possess a high level of kinesiophobia. With respect to the general level of kinesiophobia, no significant differences were found in relation to gender, with regard to the number of surgeries or whether one or both knees were affected by injuries. Older skiers have also been found to have significantly lower fear of recurrent injuries.
The number of knee injuries in skiing is high and aggravating, in such a way that almost one third of skiers that have sustained knee injuries experience a critical level of kinesiophobia, and that requires intervention. During rehabilitation, psychological support should also be provided to athletes in order to prevent or reduce kinesiophobia and thus prevent recurrent or new injuries.
AbstractAcademic honesty is rarely investigated among Croatian students, despite the extremely high prevalence of unethical behavior at all levels of education, according to previous research. In ...this study, we examined the self-reported behavior, attitudes and values related to academic honesty of 1088 higher education students. The results indicate a moderate prevalence of dishonest behavior, especially in examinations. Students often show dishonest behavior due to poor supervision during exams while the main motivation for cheating is passing the exam or getting a higher score. Having examined the significant predictors of academic dishonesty, we can conclude that senior students behave more honestly. For students who are more honest in academic situations, cheating is less acceptable, and they provide more reasons for not cheating and less for cheating. However, students are not willing to take responsibility for their own honest behavior, and expect to be controlled by teachers and educational institutions. The paper introduces recommendations for the promotion and adoption of honest academic conduct in higher education institutions.Key words: attitude; cheating; perception; responsibility; students.---SažetakAkademsko poštenje studenata u nas se rijetko istražuje unatoč iznimno visokoj prevalenciji nečestitog ponašanja na svim razinama obrazovanja, kako pokazuju dosadašnja istraživanja. U ovom istraživanju ispitan je osobni doživljaj ponašanja, stavova i vrijednosti povezan s akademskom čestitošću 1088 studenata nekoliko veleučilišnih studija. Rezultati ukazuju na umjerenu pojavnost nečestitog ponašanja, osobito na ispitima znanja. Studenti se najčešće ponašaju nepošteno zbog slabog nadzora na ispitu, a osnovni motivator je prolaz na ispitu ili dobivanje više ocjene. Uvidom u značajne prediktore akademskog nepoštenja zaključujemo da se stariji studenti ponašaju čestitije. Ujedno, što im je nepoštenje u izvedbi akademskih zadataka manje prihvatljivo i što navode manje razloga za nepošteno ponašanje, a više za pošteno, to je njihovo ponašanje čestitije. Ipak, studenti nisu spremni preuzeti odgovornost za vlastito čestito ponašanje, te očekuju kontrolu nastavnika i obrazovne institucije. U radu su iznijete preporuke za poticanje i usvajanje čestitog akademskog ponašanja u visokoobrazovnim ustanovama.Ključne riječi: odgovornos; percepcija; stav; student; varanje.
Ugradnja totalne endoproteze kuka (TEP) jedna je od najčešćih operacija u ortopedskoj kirurgiji. Riječ je o složenom operacijskom zahvatu koji zahtijeva dugotrajan oporavak. Neugodne emocije mogu ...usporiti oporavak i otežati prilagodbu pacijenata te je važno znati u kojoj su mjeri neugodna emocionalna stanja poput depresije, anksioznosti i stresa prisutna kod pacijenata. Stoga je cilj ovoga istraživanja bio utvrditi učestalost pojave anksioznosti, depresije i stresa kod pacijenata prije i nakon ugradnje totalne endoproteze kuka. Zanimalo nas je i kakav je odnos promatranih emocionalnih stanja s nekim sociodemografskim obilježjima.
Primijenjen je upitnik koji uključuje osnovne sociodemografske podatke ispitanika te Skala depresije, anksioznosti i stresa (DASS-S). Uzorak od 50 ispitanika obaju spolova bio je prigodnog tipa, prosječne dobi 69 godina. Istraživanje je provedeno dvokratno za vrijeme boravka pacijenata u bolnici, dan prije operacije i drugi dan nakon operacije kuka.
Prije operacije emocionalno stanje pacijenata bilo je vrlo neugodno, osobito stres. Nakon operacije došlo je do izrazitog, statistički značajnog smanjenja svih triju neugodnih emocija, što ukazuje na poboljšanje emocionalnog stanja pacijenata nakon operacije u odnosu na stanje prije. Osobe koje imaju samo osnovnoškolsko obrazovanje značajno su starije od ostalih te imaju značajno izrazitiju depresivnost nakon operacije. Korelacije su pokazale da s povećanjem dobi pacijenata, raste i anksioznost, i to u obje točke mjerenja, te je i razina depresivnog raspoloženja izrazitija. Po spolu, bračnom statusu, kao ni po tome imaju li ispitanici djece nije dobivena statistički značajna razlika.
This paper explores the relationship between expressed attitude toward gender roles and perception of realised family gender roles, together with the satisfaction with distribution of partner ...investments related to the performance of everyday family activities and the experience of fairness in relationship. The study included 117 couples. The hypothesis about the difference between women and men in terms of attitudes towards partner's and parental gender role was confirmed. Women have more egalitarian attitudes than men while in the realization of the roles partners do not differ. Traditional participants, unlike those with egalitarian attitudes, have lower levels of education, have lived longer with their partner and grew up in a smaller town. Significant interactions of main effects were found for the variable perception of fairness in a relationship. Men generally consider relationship to be more equitable than women, while egalitarian men believe that fairness in relationship is highest and women experience fairness the lowest.
U ovom radu istražena je povezanost izraženog stava prema rodnim ulogama s percepcijom ostvarenih obiteljskih rodnih uloga, odnosno sa zadovoljstvom raspodjelom partnerskih ulaganja vezanih uz ...obavljanje svakodnevnih obiteljskih obveza te doživljajem pravednosti u vezi. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 117 (izvan)bračnih parova. Potvrđena je hipoteza o razlici između žena i muškaraca po pitanju stavova prema partnerskoj i roditeljskoj rodnoj ulozi. Iako žene imaju egalitarnije stavove od muškaraca, na skalama ostvarenih uloga partneri se ne razlikuju. Tradicionalniji sudionici, za razliku od onih s egalitarnim stavovima, prosječno su nižeg stupnja obrazovanja, dulje žive s partnerom, te su do punoljetnosti odrastali u manjem mjestu. Značajna interakcija glavnih efekata nađena je za varijablu doživljaj pravednosti u vezi. Muškarci općenito smatraju odnose u vezi pravednijim od žena, a pritom žene doživljavaju pravednost u vezi najmanjom, a egalitarni muškarci najvećom.

Gastroenteritis is one of the most commonly reported communicable diseases in Croatia, where there is a well-established system for the surveillance of this disease. The aim of this study was to ...identify the frequency and the most causative agents of gastroenteritis outbreaks and to identify underlying factors contributing to disease outbreaks. We analysed 89 reported outbreaks documented by local epidemiologists to the Croatian National Institute of Public Health during 2006. Most outbreaks happened during the summer (39.3%).Causative agents in the summer were mostly bacteriae while viruses were mostly the causative agents in the spring (p < 0.01). Also bacteria was the most causative agent in outbreaks conducted in private households and public restaurants, while viruses, mostly norovirus, were causative agents in outbreaks in homes for elderly people and hospitals (p < 0.01). Bacterial infections were related to substandard practices in food preparation and warehousing, and virus infections were related to person-to-person contact (fecal-oral route and airborne transmission) (p < 0.01). However, it is important to recognize the need for continuous public education, especially for professionals involved in food preparing as a step in how to prevent gastroenteritis.
