We discuss various aspects of the early petite unification (PUT) of quarks and leptons based on the gauge group G_PUT=SU(4)_PS x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R x SU(2)_H. This unification takes place at the scale ...M= O(1-2 TeV) and gives the correct value of sin^2 theta_W(M_Z^2) without the violation of the upper bound on the K_L -> mu e rate and the limits on FCNC processes. These properties require the existence of three new generations of unconventional quarks and leptons with charges up to 4/3 (for quarks) and 2 (for leptons) and masses O(250 GeV) in addition to the standard three generations of quarks and leptons. The horizontal group SU(2)_H connects the standard fermions with the unconventional ones. We work out the spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) of the gauge group G_PUT down to the SM gauge group, generalize the existing one-loop renormalization group (RG) analysis to the two-loop level including the contributions of Higgs scalars and Yukawa couplings, and demonstrate that the presence of three new generations of heavy unconventional quarks and leptons with masses O(250 GeV) is consistent with astrophysical constraints. The NLO and Higgs contributions to the RG analysis are significant while the Yukawa contributions can be neglected.
La sonda de presion de raices fue usada para investigar las posibles diferencias en la influencia del pH bajo y el Al sobre la conductividad hidraulica (Lsub(Pr)) de raices de diferentes variedades ...de maiz (Zea mays L.). Basandonos en las tasas de elongacion radicular despues de 24 h de exposicion tanto a bajo pH como a Al, se encontro que la variedad HS7777 es sensible al Al y a los protones, mientras que la variedad C525 M se manifesto como sensible a los protones y tolerante al Al. La variedad HS7777 presento un mayor contenido en Al que la C525 M. El aluminio disminuyo Psub(r) en ambas variedades pero dicha disminucion fue unicamente significativa para HS7777. Mientras que Lsub(Pr) se incremento en HS7777, en C525 disminuyo, y Tsub(1/2) siguio una pauta opuesta en las dos variedades. Nuestros datos muestran claramente que las variedades que difieren en la tolerancia a los protones y/o Al difieren en los efectos que dichos cationes presentan sobre los parametros hidricos y las propiedades mecanicas de la raiz.

Para distinguir las interacciones entre Al y Si que ocurren en el sustrato, de las posibles interacciones de estos elementos en las plantas, se estudio la influencia de diferentes concentraciones de ...Al (0, 20 y 50 myM; 24 h exposiciones en soluciones sin Si) sobre el crecimiento y la nutricion mineral de plantulas de maiz pretratadas (+Si) o no (-Si) mediante 1 mM Si (pretratamiento 72 h). El crecimiento de las plantas +Si fue mucho mejor que el de las -Si, tanto bajo condiciones control (0 myM Al) como tras exposicion a Al. El pretratamiento con Si disminuyo la absorcion de Al, pero favorecio la translocacion de Al desde las raices a la parte aerea. Aunque se observaron interacciones significativas de los factores Al y Si, tanto sobre la concentracion de nutrientes esenciales, como sobre su translocacion, asi como sobre las relaciones molares P/Zn, el efecto mejorante del pretratamiento con Si parecio mas debido a una menor union del Al en el apoplasto radicular que a efectos indirectos sobre la nutricion mineral.
Potato tubers were artificially infected with Synchytrium endobioticum. The symptoms of wart disease, which are characterized as hypertrophied masses of host tissue, developed primarily in the region ...of sprouting eyes. The analysis of indole acetic acid (IAA) by means of a solid-phase-enzyme-immunoassay showed significantly increased levels of free IAA in tumorous tissue as compared to corresponding parts of uninfected samples. Bound IAA was not detectable in either the infected or uninfected sprouting stems. The IAA content of tissue further distant from the infection site, such as the storage parenchyma from tubers, did not differ from uninfected samples. Storage parenchyma contained free and bound IAA. With respect to auxin, the fungus exerted a short range effect on its host. Kartoffelknollen wurden mit Synchytrium endobioticum infiziert. Die Symptome der Kartoffelkrebs-Erkrankung mit Wucherungen der Wirtsgewebe entwickelten sich vornehmlich in der Region austreibender Augen. Die Analyse der Indolessigsäure (IES) mit Hilfe eines Solid-Phase-Enzymimmunoassays ergab signifikant erhöhte Mengen an freier IES in tumorösem Gewebe im Gegensatz zu den entsprechenden Bereichen nicht-infizierter Kontrollen. Gebundene IES war weder in infizierten noch in nicht-infizierten austreibenden Sprossen nachweisbar. Der IES-Gehalt von Geweben in größerer Entfernung zur Infektionsstelle (z. B. Speicherparenchym der Knollen) zeigte keine Unterschiede zu den nicht-infizierten Kontrollen. Das Speicherparenchym enthielt freie und gebundene IES. Das Pathogen übte hinsichtlich der IES eine Nahwirkung auf seinen Wirt aus.
