Ion-beam deposition of tourmaline on glass substrate was investigated. X-ray fluorescence has been used to characterize surface composition of glass before and after deposition. The surface ...morphologies of glass were investigated by atomic force microscope. The crystallographic properties of the prepared films were evaluated by X-ray diffraction. Fourier infrared spectroscopy was used to determine infrared transmission. It is concluded that symmetrical island structure tourmaline film can be deposited on the glass substrate. The average size of the tourmaline grain is about 1μm.
The effective electroelastic moduli of microcavity-weakened piezoelectric plates are investigated by the dilute, self-consistent, Mori-Tanaka and differential micromechanics theories. The results of ...perturbed heat intensity, strain and electric field (SEF) due to the presence of voids are obtained for two-dimensional (2-D) piezoelectric plates with microcavities of various shapes, and then the above four micromechanics models can be established with the results. These models can be applicable to a wide range of microcavities such as ellipse, circle, crack, triangle, square and pentagon. Some numerical results are presented to illustrate the applicability of these models.
Intelligent and connected vehicle traffic makes it possible to achieve active safety applications and self-driving more efficiently and cheaply, but only when accurate vehicle positioning is ...accessible. Therefore, to remedy the defects of current GPS positioning technology, a new positioning system based on RFID and vision is proposed. This system aims at lane-level positioning even in various environments. In this system, vehicle positioning is divided into two processes: judging the specific lane the vehicle is occupying (i.e.the lateral position), and obtaining the absolute position or relative position to other vehicles. The method of lane judging with RFID and vision is described in detail, and then proved feasible on a real road. Supported by lane judging, lane-level positioning can be achieved by GPS/DGPS, or V-I communications&ranging. Relative positions of vehicles can also be acquired using lane judging and V-V communications&ranging.
Abstract
Viral infectious diseases are a devastating and continuing threat to human and animal health. Receptor binding is the key step for viral entry into host cells. Therefore, recognizing viral ...receptors is fundamental for understanding the potential tissue tropism or host range of these pathogens. The rapid advancement of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology has paved the way for studying the expression of viral receptors in different tissues of animal species at single-cell resolution, resulting in huge scRNA-seq datasets. However, effectively integrating or sharing these datasets among the research community is challenging, especially for laboratory scientists. In this study, we manually curated up-to-date datasets generated in animal scRNA-seq studies, analyzed them using a unified processing pipeline, and comprehensively annotated 107 viral receptors in 142 viruses and obtained accurate expression signatures in 2 100 962 cells from 47 animal species. Thus, the VThunter database provides a user-friendly interface for the research community to explore the expression signatures of viral receptors. VThunter offers an informative and convenient resource for scientists to better understand the interactions between viral receptors and animal viruses and to assess viral pathogenesis and transmission in species. This paper presents a study on interfacial stresses of a concrete column confined by fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) plate, which has been widely applied in the civil engineering for rehabilitation ...and retrofitting of conventional structures. It is assumed that both the FRP plate and concrete structures are elastic and the interface between them is perfectly bonded. An analytical model for analysis of the interfacial stresses is developed and the finite element modeling is carried out for an axisymmetric FRP–concrete hybrid column. Components of the FRP plate with different geometric and material properties are considered to study their effects on the interfacial stresses. The study shows that the interfacial stresses are influenced by several factors, such as modulus ratio of FRP and concrete and thickness of FRP. This work provides a comprehensive investigation on the mechanical behavior of the interface in hybrid structures.
Abstract
A new marine fish cell line, derived from the heart of giant grouper,
E
pinephelus lanceolatus
(
B
loch), was established and characterized. The cell line was designated as
ELGH
and ...subcultured with more than 60 passages. The
ELGH
cells were mainly composed of fibroblast‐like cells and multiplied well in
L
eibovitz's
L
‐15 medium supplemented with 10% foetal bovine serum (FBS) at 28 °C. Chromosome analysis indicated that the modal chromosome number was 48. The fluorescent signals were detected in
ELGH
when transfected with green fluorescent protein reporter plasmids. The 50% cytotoxic concentration (
CC
50
) of the extracellular products (
ECP
s) from
S
treptococcus iniae
and
V
ibrio alginolyticus
E

ELGH
cells was 60.02 and 12.49 μg mL

, respectively. Moreover, the
ELGH
cells showed susceptibility to
S
ingapore grouper iridovirus (
SGIV
), but not to soft‐shelled turtle iridovirus (
STIV
), red‐spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (
RGNNV
) and spring viremia of carp virus (
SVCV
), which was demonstrated by the presence of a severe cytopathic effect (
CPE
) and increased viral titres. In addition, electron microscopy observation showed that abundant virus particles were present in the infected cells. Taken together, our data above provided the potential utility of
ELGH
cells for transgenic and genetic manipulation, as well as cytotoxicity testing and virus pathogenesis.
Micro-Abstract In this phase II trial of 148 patients with previously treated advanced colorectal cancer (CRC), we investigated the efficacy and safety of oral linifanib (7.5 or 12.5 mg), a tyrosine ...kinase inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor and platelet-derived growth factor receptor families, or bevacizumab (10 mg/kg) in combination with mFOLFOX6 (oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil, folinic acid). Patients receiving linifanib did not experience a survival advantage.
In this paper, a self-consistent boundary element method is introduced to predict overall properties of a cracked bimaterial plate. The boundary element (BE) formulation is developed based on Green's ...function for displacement discontinuity of a bimaterial solid and potential variational principles. The self-consistent method is then introduced into the BE formulation to provide an effective means for estimating overall material constants of a bimaterial solid weakened by cracks. Numerical results for a bimaterial plate with cracks are presented to illustrate the application of the proposed self-consistent BE formulation.
To evaluate the feasibility, safety and efficacy of robotic-assisted lateral lymph node dissection for mid-low advanced rectal cancer.
A retrospective cohort study was performed. Inclusion criteria: ...(1) age between 18 and 80 years old; (2) rectal adenocarcinoma diagnosed by pathology; (3) without distant metastasis by preoperative CT or MRI; (4) patients underwent robotic-assisted total mesorectal resection (TME). Exclusion criteria: (1) conversion to open surgery; (2) multiple primary tumors; (3) patients underwent combined multiple organ resection. According to the above criteria, 137 patients undergoing robotic-assisted mid-low rectal cancer resection in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University from December 2016 to April 2019 were enrolled.
