phase. The optical transmission of 80 % has been observed in the visible spectrum. The obtained band gap energy is 4.1 eV. From the observed results it was evidenced that the substrate temperature has strong influence on the structural and optical properties of the spray pyrolysed copper aluminium oxide films.
Gene expression is a fundamentally stochastic process, with randomness in transcription and translation leading to cell-to-cell variations in mRNA and protein levels. This variation appears in ...organisms ranging from microbes to metazoans, and its characteristics depend both on the biophysical parameters governing gene expression and on gene network structure. Stochastic gene expression has important consequences for cellular function, being beneficial in some contexts and harmful in others. These situations include the stress response, metabolism, development, the cell cycle, circadian rhythms, and aging.

► l-Valine Zinc Sulphate have been grown successfully from l-valine and Zinc sulphate. ► Grown crystal have better thermal properties. ► Transmission spectrum shows that it can be ...used as good NLO material. ► NLO efficiency of the new crystal is 34% higher than pure l-valine.
Nonlinear optical (NLO) organic inorganic hybrid l-Valine Zinc Sulphate (LVZS) was synthesized and single crystals were obtained from saturated aqueous solution by slow evaporation method at 36°C using a constant temperature bath (CTB) with an accuracy of ±0.01°C. This crystal is reported with its characterization by single crystal and powder XRD, FTIR, UV–Vis-NIR, TG/DTA analysis and SHG test. Single crystal XRD study reveals that LVZS crystallizes in monoclinic system with the lattice constants a=9.969(3) Å, b=7.238(3) Å, c=24.334(9) Å and cell volume is 1736.00Å3. Sharp peaks observed in powder X-ray diffraction studies confirm the high degree of crystallinity of grown crystal. The incorporation of sulphate ion with l-valine is confirmed by FTIR spectrum in LVZS crystal. A remarkable increase in optical transparency has been observed in LVZS when compared to l-valine and zinc sulphate heptahydrate Thermal properties of LVZS have been reported by using TG/DTA analysis. Kurtz powder second harmonic generation (SHG) test confirms NLO property of the crystal and SHG efficiency of LVZS was found to be 1.34 times more than pure l-valine.
Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) is currently preparing for the launch of the Buccaneer Main Mission (BMM) satellite, the successor to the Buccaneer Risk Mitigation Mission (BRMM). BMM ...hosts a high-frequency (HF) antenna and receiver to contribute to the calibration of the Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN). Verification of the successful deployment and stability of the large HF antenna is critical to the success of the mission. A bespoke deployable optics payload has been developed by DSTG to fulfil the dual purpose of direct verification of the deployed state of the HF antenna and capturing images of the Earth through a rotatable, dual-surfaced mirror and a variable-focus liquid lens. The payload advances research at DSTG in several fields of space engineering, including deployable mechanisms, precision actuation devices, radiation-tolerant electronics, advanced metal polishing and optical metrology. This paper discusses the payload design, material selection, trade-offs considered for the deployable optics payload and preliminary test results.
Objectives: Tobacco consumption is of major concern for public health. Compromised oral hygiene accentuated by tobacco leads to alteration in the oral mucosa and microbiome, including Candida, and ...its species can be identified rapidly using CHROMagar. Curcumin, a naturally available compound possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-carcinogenic, anti-fungal, and immunomodulatory properties. Hence, a comprehensive study was planned. Aim: To evaluate and compare cytomorphometric analysis and Candida colonization and speciation in tobacco users before and after the use of curcumin gel. Materials and Methods: The study comprised a total of 120 participants (the study (tobacco habit) group, n = 60 and control (healthy) group, n = 60). The intervention was the application of curcumin gel over the lesion area three times daily for 2 months. All participants’ oral health status was assessed, followed by cytomorphometric analysis and Candida colonization and speciation using CHROMagar. Results: Cytomorphometric analysis showed statistically significant differences in the control and study group for cell diameter (CD), nuclear diameter (ND), CD:ND ratio, and micronuclei (p = 0.0001). Candida colonization had a significantly higher number of colonies in the habit group when compared to the control group. Candida tropicalis was predominant in the study group, whereas Candida albicans was predominant in the control group. In the study group, after intervention with curcumin, a statistically significant difference was seen in nuclear diameter, CD:ND ratio, and micronuclei. There was a reduction in the number of Candida colonies, and Candida albicans was the predominant species observed in the study group after the intervention of curcumin and discontinuation of habit. Conclusion: Curcumin was found to reduce the number of micronuclei and also decreased Candida colonization, along with the discontinuation of habit in tobacco users.
Water pipe smoking (WPS) has been a traditional habit in the Middle Eastern Society for hundreds of years. The WPS users have a false sense of safety due to its casual use in social gatherings. It ...was estimated that about 70% of WPS users believe it to be a safe alternative to cigarette smoking.
Further, the use of flavored tobacco has led to its growing popularity, especially among youngsters.
Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) deficient renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are uncommon renal tumors that typically present in relatively younger patients. SDH mutations are known to cause cancer, but often ...presents with hereditary paragangliomas, pheochromocytomas, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. This report details a case of SDH deficient RCC in a patient with no know contributing family history. Patient presented with recurrent urinary tract infections and groin pain. Computerized tomography (CT) revealed a 4 cm mass in the right kidney. Partial nephrectomy was performed, and the patient had an uneventful recovery. Immunohistochemical staining revealed the tumor was SDH negative.
Inverted urothelial papilloma (IUP) is an unusual tumor that typically presents as a non-invasive, endophytic urothelial neoplasm. Though fairly well described in the bladder, IUP of the upper ...urinary tract is fairly rare, with only 68 cases documented in English language literature. Our patient presented with an IUP of the distal left ureter and was treated with a distal ureterectomy and reimplant of the ureter with a psoas hitch.
The recurrent nova V745 Scorpii underwent its third known outburst on 2014 February 6. Infrared monitoring of the eruption on an almost daily basis, starting from 1.3 days after discovery, shows the ...emergence of a powerful blast wave generated by the high velocity nova ejecta exceeding 4000 km s super(-1) plowing into its surrounding environment. The temperature of the shocked gas is raised to a high value exceeding 10 super(8) K immediately after outburst commencement. The energetics of the outburst clearly surpass those of similar symbiotic systems like RS Oph and V407 Cyg which have giant secondaries. The shock does not show a free-expansion stage but rather shows a decelerative Sedov-Taylor phase from the beginning. Such strong shock fronts are known to be sites for gamma -ray generation. V745 Sco is the latest nova, apart from five other known novae, to show gamma -ray emission. It may be an important testbed to resolve the crucial question of whether or not all novae are generically gamma -ray emitters by virtue of having a circumbinary reservoir of material that is shocked by the ejecta rather than gamma -ray generation being restricted to only symbiotic systems with a shocked red giant (RG) wind. The lack of a free-expansion stage favors V745 Sco to have a density enhancement around the white dwarf (WD), above that contributed by a RG wind. Our analysis also suggests that the WD in V745 Sco is very massive and a potential progenitor for a future SN Ia explosion.
