In this study, different amounts of boric acid (BA, 1.25, 2.5, 3.75 and 5.0 wt%) were used to enhance the effectiveness of an intumescent flame retardant (IFR) system composed of ammonium ...polyphosphate (APP) and pentaerythritol (PER) in polypropylene (PP) including 2 wt% montmorillonite nanoclay (MMT). Meanwhile, metaboric acid and boron oxide which were generated by the decomposition of BA appeared in the melt compounding and the burning processes, respectively. Extensive experimental studies were performed to investigate the effects of BA/boron oxide and MMT combinations on the properties of PP/IFR. The fire resistances of the composites were studied by UL 94, limiting oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimetry tests. The thermal properties were determined by using thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and thermal conductivity measurements. In addition, the mechanical properties of the composites were examined. The experimental results revealed that although the additions of 1.25 and 2.5 wt% BA with 2 wt% MMT significantly enhanced thermal and flame resistances of PP composites, 3.75 and 5.0 wt% BA additions generated antagonistic effects and deteriorated the fire resistance of the composites. The sample including 2.5 wt% BA addition achieved the best flame retardancy. The LOI value was increased from 18 to 31% with UL 94 V-0 rating. In addition, the peak heat release rate was reduced from 668.6 to 150.0 kW/m2 and the total heat release value was decreased from 247.9 to 98.4 MJ/m2. In the meantime, the thermal conductivity was increased from 0.22 up to 0.28 W/mK. Furthermore, CO, CO2 and the smoke productions were significantly decreased with respect to PP. NO generation was decreased with BA replacements. At the same time, although there was a slight decrease in the tensile strength, the flexural strength significantly increased with BA and MMT additions.

Therefore, it is important to determinate the mechanical properties of these materials. In this study, 5% by weight of the thermoplastic polyurethane material, aluminium tri hydroxide (ATH, (Al2O3 3H2O)) and magnesium hydroxide (MgOH, (Mg(OH)2)) were added. Ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as an intumescent flame retardant with inorganic flame retardants were added to increase the flame resistance of produced composite structure. Tensile test, tear test, hardness and Izod impact tests were made and compared of those produced composites. As a result of experiments the addition of ATH has lowered the tensile strength and tear strength contrast to this the addition of MgOH has improved those properties. Hardness and Izod impact test results were showed that both of the additives have no negative effect.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of talc/intumescent flame retardant additions on thermal, burning, and mechanical characteristics of the rigid polyurethane foams. At this purpose, ...the talc which mainly includes SiO2, MgO and CaO and an intumescent flame retardant which is composed of ammonium polyphosphate and pentaerythritol was incorporated into the foam at various weight loadings. The cone calorimeter tests, UL94 tests, thermogravimetric analyses and thermal conductivity measurements were done for investigation of the thermal and burning characteristics. In general, additions of the talc and the talc/the intumescent flame retardant enhanced the thermal and the fire resistance of the foams. However, the best fire resistance was achieved with a composition which include 10 wt % the intumescent flame retardant and 5 wt % talc. The addition of this composition resulted in 32% reduction in the total heat release value.

Kömür kullanılan güç santrallerinin bir yan ürünü olan uçucu kül, farklı polimer malzemelerde değişik amaçlar için dolgu maddesi olarak kullanılmaktadır. Uçucu külün kimyasal bileşimi ve parçacık ...boyutu, kömür tipine ve yanmaya bağlı olarak değişebildiğinden dolayı polimer malzemelerde kullanılmadan önce bu özelliklerinin incelenmesi gereklidir. Bu çalışmada, farklı kimyasal bileşime sahip iki uçucu kül, sert poliüretan köpük malzemede dolgu maddesi olarak kullanılmıştır. Uçucu küller toplam kütleye % 5, % 10, % 15 ve % 20 oranlarında eklenmiştir. Sert poliüretan köpüğün elektron mikroskobu ile hücre yapısı incelenmiş ve iki farklı uçucu külün köpüğün ısı iletim katsayısına, basma dayanımına, ısıl kararlılığına ve alev alabilirliğine etkileri incelenmiştir. Deneysel sonuçlar, uçucu küllerin sert poliüretan köpük malzemeye ilavesinin ısı iletim katsayısı üzerinde olumsuz etkilere sebep olmadığını, bununla birlikte, basma dayanımında kabul edilebilir sınırlar içerisinde düşmelere neden olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca, yüksek SiO2 içeren uçucu kül ilaveli köpük malzemelerin ısıl bozunma ve yanmaya daha dirençli olduğu belirlenmiştir.
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can cause serious complications in immunocompromised individuals and fetuses with congenital infections. These can include neurodevelopmental impairments and congenital ...abnormalities in newborns. This paper emphasizes the importance of concurrently evaluating ultrasonography findings and laboratory parameters in diagnosing congenital CMV infection. To examine the prenatal characteristics of CMV DNA-positive patients, we assessed serum and amniotic fluid from 141 pregnant women aged 19-45 years, each with fetal anomalies. ELISA and PCR tests, conducted in response to these amniocentesis findings, were performed at an average gestational age of 25 weeks. Serological tests revealed that all 141 women were CMV IgG-positive, and 2 (1.41%) had low-avidity CMV IgG, suggesting a recent infection. CMV DNA was detected in 17 (12.05%) amniotic fluid samples using quantitative PCR. Of these, 82% exhibited central nervous system abnormalities. Given that most infections in pregnant women are undetectable and indicators non-specific, diagnosing primary CMV in pregnant women using clinical findings alone is challenging. We contend that serological tests should not be the sole means of diagnosing congenital CMV infection during pregnancy.

In this study we retrospectively reviewed A. baumannii meningitis cases treated with tigecycline including regimens and evaluated the efficacy of tigecycline in the therapy.
Patients and Methods: Study was performed in seven tertiary-care educational hospitals from five cities of Turkey and one center from France. We extracted data and outcomes of all adult (aged >18) patients with culture proven A. baumannii meningitis treated with tigecycline including antibiotic therapy until April 2016.
A total of 23 patients (15 male and eight female) fulfilled our inclusion criteria. All Acinetobacter strains were carbapenem-resistant and susceptible to tigecycline. Six cases received tigecycline monotherapy while 17 received tigecycline including combination therapy (10 with colistin, 4 with netilmicin, 3 with amikacin, 4 with meropenem). Seven of 23 cases (30%) died during the tigecycline including therapy (1 in monotherapy, 4 in colistin, 2 in netilmicin, 1 amikacin, one case received tigecycline + netilmicin followed by tigecycline + colistin). Hence, overall end of treatment (EOT) success was 70%. However, since further 27% died due to additional nosocomial infections, overall clinical success (relieved symptoms at the EOT and one-month post-therapy survival without any relapse or reinfection) decreased to 43%.
We conclude that tigecycline may be an alternative in the salvage treatment of nosocomial multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter spp. meningitis. Acinetobacter spp. Meningitis.
