The Adience-Abience and the Psychopathology Scales of the HABGT were applied under pretreatment and posttreatment conditions to 120 13-15-year-old male delinquents. Comparison with other personality ...variabes, prediction of recidivism, and analysis of mean scores on the two scales with the means of normal and disturbed children of comparable age were attempted. The delinquent group was more abient than normal children and was significantly higher in psychopthology than either normals or disturbed children. Significant correlations were obtained between Adience-Abience and Psychopathology and recidivism, although neither scale alone, nor both scales in combination, was high enough in prediction to warrant their use for individual predictive purposes. However, their utility in such programs as well as their construct validity were demonstrated.
To demonstrate the clinical value of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging in monitoring stent deployment in the cervical carotid arteries.
Two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) IVUS ...imaging has been used routinely in more than 100 patients following carotid stenting and the completion angiogram to detect evidence of inaccurate stent deployment. Axial 2D views were used to measure diameters and cross-sectional areas and provide the basis for 3D reconstruction. These composited images produced single-frame views of entire vascular segments, with definition of vessel wall morphology, stent placement, and angioplasty-induced defects. This information was used in the decision to apply further treatment to the area in order to maximize luminal diameter and/or correct defects.
IVUS imaging is an important component of carotid artery stent procedures. It more accurately visualizes stent placement and vessel wall morphology than arteriography, information critical to the intraprocedural assessment process.
Wellington's defense of Portugal from 1810 to 1811 had more significance to the Peninsular War and the Napoleonic Wars than it has been accorded by historians. The importance of the 1810-1811 ...Portuguese campaign stems from its military, political and diplomatic context. In reexamining the interaction of these three factors, one may recontextualize the campaign. Since early 1810, Wellington had defended Portugal against the French while the ministry of Spencer Perceval had to defend its war policy against continuous attacks by the Opposition factions who wanted to withdraw British forces from the Peninsula. Wellington also had to contend with the contumacious Portuguese Regency council who continually had tried to interfere with his defense plans. Considering these factors, if Wellington had failed in his defense of Portugal, this defeat would have grave consequences for the future of the Peninsular War and the course of the Napoleonic Wars.
