Background
Cerebral hemiatrophy syndromes can present with variable neurological symptoms. In childhood epilepsy, mental retardation and neuropsychiatric disorders are common while in adults movement ...disorders, such as highly asymmetric parkinsonism or hemidystonia as well as neuropsychiatric problems have been reported.
Methods
Here, we present three adult patients with features that expand the clinical spectrum and give an overview of the most common clinical signs associated with this rare condition.
Results
All three patients had prominent neuropsychiatric symptoms such as mood swings and increased irritability. Furthermore, one patient developed hemichorea which can be a rare presentation of cerebral hemiatrophy.
Conclusions
Cerebral hemiatrophy syndromes are a heterogeneous group of disorders that may also present with neuropsychiatric symptoms or hemichorea.
The IS475 collaboration conducted Coulomb-excitation experiments with postaccelerated radioactive 220Rn and 224Ra beams at the REX-ISOLDE facility. The beam particles (Ebeam ≈ 2.83 MeV/u) were ...Coulomb excited using 60Ni, 114Cd, and 120Sn scattering targets. De-excitation γ-rays were detected employing the Miniball array and scattered particles were detected in a silicon detector. Exploiting the Coulomb-excitation code GOSIA for each nucleus several matrix elements could be obtained from the measured γ-ray yields. The extracted ⟨3−||Ê3||0+⟩ matrix element allows for the conclusion that, while 220Rn represents an octupole vibrational system, 224Ra has already substantial octupole correlations in its ground state. An observation that has implications for the search of CP-violating Schiff moments in the atomic systems of the adjacent odd-mass nuclei.

A new precise determination of the
meson mass is presented. It is based on a measurement of the threshold for the
reaction using the tagger focal-plane microscope detector at the MAMI-B facility in ...Mainz. The tagger microscope has a higher energy resolution than the standard tagging spectrometer and, hence, allowed an improvement in the accuracy compared to the previous
mass measurement at MAMI-B. Special emphasis was put on a very careful energy calibration of the electron beam and the tagging device, which reduced considerably the systematic uncertainty compared to the previous MAMI experiment. The result
MeV agrees very well with the precise values of the NA48, KLOE, CLEO and COSY-ANKE Collaborations and deviates by
from the smaller value obtained by the GEM Collaboration at COSY.
Summary
Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most frequently applied standard treatments for this disease. The role for TACE is fairly well defined ...within the most widely used treatment algorithm for HCC, die Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system and treatment algorithm. But no general treatment algorithm will go into the technical details of any procedure and several patients will not fit ideally into the patient groups predefined in BCLC or any other treatment algorithm. Furthermore, indications and contraindications sometimes are viewed differently by the various medical specialties involved in taking care of such patients. We present here the joint expert position statement of the Austrian Societies of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ÖGGH), Interventional Radiology (ÖGIR), Hematology and Oncology (ÖGHO), and Surgical Oncology (ASSO) on the technical aspects, indications, and contraindication for the use of TACE in the management of HCC.

Hg-206 was populated in the fragmentation of an E/A = 1 GeV Pb-208 beam at GSI. It was part of a campaign to study nuclei around Pb-208 via relativistic Coulomb excitation. The observation of the ...known isomeric states confirmed the identification of the fragmentation products. The isomeric decays were also used to prove that the correlations between beam identification detectors and the AGATA gamma-ray tracking array worked properly and that the tracking efficiency was independent of the time relative to the prompt flash.
Entangled photon pairs form the foundation for many applications in the realm of quantum communication. For fiber-optic transfer of entangled photon pairs, time-bin encoding can potentially offer an ...improved stability compared to polarization encoded qubits. Here, we lay the theoretical foundations to describe the measurement of time-bin entangled photons. We derive multi-time correlation functions of the time-bin encoded photon pairs, corresponding to quantum state tomographic measurements. Our theory can be the starting point to extend the simulations to include all kinds of loss or decoherence effects that apply in a specific quantum system for realistic simulation for time-bin entanglement from quantum emitters.
Because dark excitons in quantum dots are not directly optically accessible, so far they have not played a significant role in using quantum dots for photon generation. They possess significantly ...longer lifetimes than their brighter counterparts and hence offer enormous potential for photon storage or manipulation. In this work, we demonstrate an all-optical storage and retrieval of the spin-forbidden dark exciton in a quantum dot from the ground state employing chirped pulses and an in-plane magnetic field. Our experimental findings are in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions of the dynamics calculated using state-of-the-art product tensor methods. Our scheme enables an all-optical control of dark states without relying on any preceding decays. This opens up a new dimension for optimal quantum control and time-bin entangled photon pair generation from quantum dots.
