When shield tunnelling is constructed in complex geological conditions using a tunnel boring machine, the disc cutter in the cutterhead easily wears to the failure state, particularly when the ground ...conditions are heterogeneous. This paper summarises the failure modes of the disc cutter in heterogeneous ground conditions into three categories, based on the observed wear data from field: (1) uniform disc cutter wear, (2) non-uniform disc cutter wear, and (3) breakage of cutter ring. Subsequently, the stress state of a disc cutter in the heterogeneous ground was analysed and the effective factors were investigated. The relationships between friction energy during cutting, working status of the machine and the characteristics of the geological conditions were evaluated. Based on the stress analysis and friction energy, a prediction model was proposed. The proposed model was applied to two field case studies: pertaining to uniform and mixed-face ground conditions, for which the empirical coefficient
k
for energy transfer was also determined. The preliminary results from this research indicated that the proposed model was valid for both homogeneous and heterogeneous ground conditions. Further case studies provided by co-operators are expected to improve the effectiveness of the proposed model.
During the past 20 years, more than 1,600 species of well-preserved fossil insects, including members of over 270 families within 24 orders, have been described from the Middle Jurassic Yanliao ...Entomofauna and Early Cretaceous Jehol Entomofauna in Northeastern China. Diversified fossil insects not only document the origin, systematics, and early evolution of many lineages, but also reveal these lineages' behaviors and interactions with coexisting plants, vertebrates, and other insects in their ecosystems. Fossil evidence has been documented, for example, regarding insects' feeding and pollination mutualism with gymnosperms; ectoparasitic feeding on blood of vertebrates; camouflage, mimicry of gymnosperm plants, and eyespot warning; sound stridulation for attracting potential mates; and sexual display, mating, egg-laying, and parental care. In this article, we review the diverse taxonomy of mid-Mesozoic insects of Northeastern China and elucidate their behaviors and interactions within their ecosystems, which have impacted their early evolution and development into extant insects.
AgNbO3 as a lead-free antiferroelectric material, has received widespread attention in recent years due to its promising application in the aspects of energy storage devices. However, the high ...remnant polarization and low breakdown strength limits its energy storage properties. In this work, Nd3+-doped AgNbO3 (Ag1−3xNdxNbO3, x=0−0.015) ceramics were prepared and a two-step sintering method was employed. The introduction of Nd3+ leads to the enhanced stability of the antiferroelectric phase, refined grain size and increased resistivity. Furthermore, by adjusting the pre-heating temperature in the two-step sintering, the homogeneity of microstructure is improved and the resistance of pre-heated samples increases by one order of magnitude compared with normally sintered samples, leading to the enhanced breakdown strength. Ag0.97Nd0.01NbO3 pre-heated at 1100 °C for 2 h exhibits promising energy storage properties, with a recoverable energy storage density of 3.2 J/cm3 and energy efficiency of 52 % under an applied electric field of 210 kV/cm.

•The Methanogenesis pathway was quantitatively ...determined by 2–13C isotope.•SAO-HM account for 41% and 50% of methane formation at 37 °C and 55 °C.•The thermophilic digester had 15% lower methane yield rates.•Stable processes were achieved at free ammonia of 31 and 145 mg/L, respectively.
The impact of temperature on the anaerobic digestion of chicken manure was investigated by studying the process performance and pathway for continuously-fed digesters under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions. The mesophilic digester obtained a 15% higher methane yield compared with the thermophilic digester. Mesophilic and thermophilic digester had free ammonia of 31 and 145 mg/L, respectively. The stable carbon isotope analysis indicated that 41% and 50% of acetate was converted to methane through the syntrophic acetate oxidation and hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis (SAO-HM) pathway under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions, respectively. The genus Pseudomonas represented 10% and 16% under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions, respectively. A high abundance of the methanogens genus Methanoculleus (94% of total methanogens) in mesophilic and the genus Methanothermobacter (96%) in thermophilic digesters indicated they were the main hydrogenotrophic partners in SAO. The present study therefore illustrated that methanogenic pathway shifting, induced by free ammonia, closely correlated to the process performance.

Withanolides are a group of modified C28 ergostane‐type steroids with a C‐22, C‐26 δ‐lactone side chain or a C‐23, C‐26 γ‐lactone side chain. They enjoy a limited distribution in the plant ...kingdom and predominantly occur in several genera of Solanaceae. Of which, the genus Physalis is an important resource for this type of natural molecules. The present review aims to comprehensively illustrate the structural characteristics and classification of withanolides, and particularly focus on the progression on phytochemical and pharmacological aspects of withanolides from Physalis ranging from January 2015 to June 2019.
Key findings
Approximately 351 natural withanolides with novel and unique structures have so far been identified from genus Physalis, mainly isolated from the species of P. angulata and P. peruviana. Withanolides demonstrated diverse biological activity, such as anticancer, anti‐inflammatory, antimicrobial, immunoregulatory, trypanocidal and leishmanicidal activity. Their observed pharmacological functions supported the uses of Physalis species in traditional or folk medicines.
Summary
Due to their unique structure skeleton and potent bioactivities, withanolides are regarded to be promising drug candidates, particularly for developing anticancer and anti‐inflammatory agents. Further investigations for discovering novel withanolides of genus Physalis, exploiting their pharmacological values and evaluating their potency as therapeutic agents are significant work.
The primary issue arising from prostate cancer (PCa) is its high prevalence to metastasize to bone, which severely affects the quality of life and survival time of PCa patients. miR-210-3p is a ...well-documented oncogenic miRNA implicated in various aspects of cancer development, progression and metastasis. However, the clinical significance and biological roles of miR-210-3p in PCa bone metastasis remain obscure.
miR-210-3p expression was evaluated by real-time PCR in 68 bone metastatic and 81 non-bone metastatic PCa tissues. The biological roles of miR-210-3p in the bone metastasis of PCa were investigated both in vitro by EMT and Transwell assays, and in vivo using a mouse model of left cardiac ventricle inoculation. Bioinformatics analysis, real-time PCR, western blot and luciferase reporter analysis were applied to discern and examine the relationship between miR-210-3p and its potential targets. RT-PCR was performed to identify the underlying mechanism of miR-210-3p overexpression in bone metastasis of PCa. Clinical correlation of miR-210-3p with its targets was examined in human PCa and metastatic bone tissues.
miR-210-3p expression is elevated in bone metastatic PCa tissues compared with non-bone metastatic PCa tissues. Overexpression of miR-210-3p positively correlates with serum PSA levels, Gleason grade and bone metastasis status in PCa patients. Upregulating miR-210-3p enhances, while silencing miR-210-3p represses the EMT, invasion and migration of PCa cells in vitro. Importantly, silencing miR-210-3p significantly inhibits bone metastasis of PC-3 cells in vivo. Our results further demonstrate that miR-210-3p maintains the sustained activation of NF-κB signaling via targeting negative regulators of NF-κB signaling (TNF-α Induced Protein 3 Interacting Protein 1) TNIP1 and (Suppressor Of Cytokine Signaling 1) SOCS1, resulting in EMT, invasion, migration and bone metastasis of PCa cells. Moreover, our results further indicate that recurrent gains (amplification) contribute to miR-210-3p overexpression in a small number of PCa patients. The clinical correlation of miR-210-3p with SOCS1, TNIP1 and NF-κB signaling activity is verified in PCa tissues.
Our findings unravel a novel mechanism for constitutive activation of NF-κB signaling pathway in the bone metastasis of PCa, supporting a functional and clinical significance of epigenetic events in bone metastasis of PCa.
In this investigation, a zero-dimensional model of a renewable generation system encompassing a solar-geothermal driven Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer integrated with Organic Rankine ...Cycle (ORC), Ejector Refrigeration Cycle (ERC) and Reverse osmosis (RO) unit is expressed with respect to energetic, exergetic, economic, and exergoeconomic points of view. Cooling and heating energies, electricity, distilled water, Hydrogen (H2), Oxygen (O2) are the key products of the mentioned system. In order to acquire the influences of the solar collector numbers, area ratio, and pressure drop of the ejector and working fluid of solar collectors on the efficiency of the hybrid unit, a set of equations were coded in MATLAB and Engineering Equation Solver (EES). The exergy destruction rate, exergy efficiency, and exergy destruction ratio of each subsystem and exergy flow diagram of all subsystems were evaluated in this study. Afterward, the results of the sensitivity analysis were used for multi-criteria optimization in three various layouts that the LINMAP as well as the fuzzy TOPSIS decision makings and Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO), are considered to get the optimal result. The results have indicated that the main variables analyzed are more affected by the variation in the number of the flat plate solar collector. Besides, in the second optimization scenario, the TOPSIS selects the optimal solution of exergy efficiency and unit exergy cost of the product of 3% and 19.77 $/Gj, while the LINMAP selects 3.001% and 19.80 $/Gj point.

This paper investigates the influence of moving trajectories on ground loss ratio (GRL) due to the double-O-tube (DOT) tunnelling method. DOT tunnelling has three moving trajectories: pitching, ...yawing, and rolling, which have different behaviours during tunnel construction compared with those from single circular shield tunnelling. These moving trajectories cause overexcavation during tunnelling. The calculation method of gap area between the DOT shield machine and linings is evaluated in this research. Based on the superposition concept, the modification equation of GLR is proposed, which takes both moving trajectory and grouting volume into consideration. A field DOT tunnelling case is analysed to determine the correlation between moving trajectories and ground settlement. The influence of tail grouting is discussed by adjusting the grouting volume in different periods. The finite element method is also employed by setting the modified ground loss ratio (GLR′) as the contraction increment of linings. Results from both the measured and simulated settlements verify the reasonability of the proposed equation and the effect of moving trajectories on ground loss.
Planar cell polarity (PCP) signalling specifies the orientation of epithelial cells and regulates directional beating of motile cilia of multiciliated epithelial cells. Clinically, defects in cilia ...function are associated with nasopharyngeal symptoms. The polarity of the nasopharyngeal epithelium is poorly understood. Here, we demonstrated PCP in the nasopharyngeal epithelium. Multiciliated cells (MCCs) were uniformly aligned with their long axis parallel to the tissue axis of the nasopharynx (NP). In addition, PCP proteins exhibited an asymmetrical localisation between adjacent cells. Motile cilia were uniformly aligned in the same direction within both individual cells and neighbouring cells, which manifested as cilial polarity in MCCs. Mutation of Vangl2, a mammalian homologue of the Drosophila PCP gene, resulted in significant disruption of the orientation of epithelial cells. Finally, keratin‐5‐positive basal cells constantly replenished the luminal ciliated cells; the new dynamic ciliated cells were also oriented parallel to the tissue axis. These results indicate a role for the PCP pathway in the uniform orientation of dynamically replenished epithelial cells in the NP.
Planar cell polarity (PCP) signalling specifies the orientation of epithelial cells and regulates directional beating of motile cilia of multiciliated epithelial cells. Clinically, defects in cilia function are associated with nasopharyngeal symptoms. Here, we present that PCP governs the alignment of the nasopharyngeal epithelium. Our findings provide a complete understanding of PCP in the nasopharyngeal epithelium and reveal novel structural features which are likely crucial within diseases of the nasopharynx.
