The standard formulation of the probability hypothesis density (PHD) and cardinalised PHD (CPHD) filters assumes that the target birth intensity is known a priori. In situations where the targets can ...appear anywhere in the surveillance volume this is clearly inefficient, since the target birth intensity needs to cover the entire state space. This paper presents a new extension of the PHD and CPHD filters, which distinguishes between the persistent and the newborn targets. This extension enables us to adaptively design the target birth intensity at each scan using the received measurements. Sequential Monte-Carlo (SMC) implementations of the resulting PHD and CPHD filters are presented and their performance studied numerically. The proposed measurement-driven birth intensity improves the estimation accuracy of both the number of targets and their spatial distribution.
Introduction
Social dysfunction is a significant feature of schizophrenia leading to deminution of quality of life (QoL).
Objectives
To explore the correlation between social functioning and quality ...of life in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Methods
The study sample comprised 32 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia (24 males and 8 females) recruited from the Clinic for mental disorders “Dr Laza Lazarevic” in Belgrade, with a mean age of 41.28 years (min 24, max 62), assessed by the Social Functioning Scale (SFS) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF).
Results
There were two significant quasi-canonical positive correlations between social functioning and QoL (1: f-test=16.4, p=.001; 2: f-test=23, p=0.0001.) The first structure is formed through the set of SFS subscales- Recreation, Independence-performance and Independence-competence and set of QoL subscales- Mental health, Physical health, Environment and General assessment of QoL. The second structure is formed through the set of SFS subscales- Interpersonal functioning and Social engagement/withdrawal and the set of QoL subscales- General assessment of QoL and Environment. Furthermore, the first canonical component indicates a greater overlap of the opposition set by social functioning (23%) which leads to the assumption that the direction of influence goes from social functioning to QoL. Due to the equality of redundancy in the second canonical component, the direction of influence can only be inferred on the basis of the first canonical component.
Conclusions
Social functioning and quality of life are related in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, and this relationship is based on specific subfactors within those areas.

The Nadir and Occultation for MArs Discovery (NOMAD) instrument on board ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter measured a large increase in water vapor at altitudes in the range of 40–100 km during the 2018 ...global dust storm on Mars. Using a three-dimensional general circulation model, we examine the mechanism responsible for the enhancement of water vapor in the upper atmosphere. Experiments with different prescribed vertical profiles of dust show that when more dust is present higher in the atmosphere, the temperature increases, and the amount of water ascending over the tropics is not limited by saturation until reaching heights of 70–100 km. The warmer temperatures allow more water to ascend to the mesosphere. Photochemical simulations show a strong increase in high-altitude atomic hydrogen following the high-altitude water vapor increase by a few days.
Performance evaluation of multi-target tracking algorithms is of great practical importance in the design, parameter optimization and comparison of tracking systems. The goal of performance ...evaluation is to measure the distance between two sets of tracks: the ground truth tracks and the set of estimated tracks. This paper proposes a mathematically rigorous metric for this purpose. The basis of the proposed distance measure is the recently formulated consistent metric for performance evaluation of multi-target filters, referred to as the OSPA metric. Multi-target filters sequentially estimate the number of targets and their position in the state space. The OSPA metric is therefore defined on the space of finite sets of vectors. The distinction between filtering and tracking is that tracking algorithms output tracks and a track represents a labeled temporal sequence of state estimates, associated with the same target. The metric proposed in this paper is therefore defined on the space of finite sets of tracks and incorporates the labeling error. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed metric behaves in a manner consistent with our expectations.
The RD53A is a prototype of the readout chip that will be used in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) pixel detector after the High-Lumi LHC (HL-LHC) upgrade is complete beyond 2025. A new feature of the ...chip enables the writing of configuration commands between triggers during operation. This feature can be used to compensate for a detuning of the pixels due to radiation damage or temperature fluctuations over time. This paper studies the efficiency of such a method as well as its side-effects and the dependency on its parameters using an equivalent software implementation.
This paper studies the problem of tracking a ballistic object in the reentry phase by processing radar measurements. A suitable (highly nonlinear) model of target motion is developed and the ...theoretical Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLB) of estimation error are derived. The estimation performance (error mean and standard deviation; consistency test) of the following nonlinear filters is compared: the extended Kalman filter (EKF), the. statistical linearization, the particle filtering, and the unscented Kalman filter (UKF). The simulation results favor the EKF; it combines the statistical efficiency with a modest computational load. This conclusion is valid when the target ballistic coefficient is a priori known.
The problem considered in this paper is detection and estimation of multiple radiation sources using a time series of radiation counts from a collection of sensors. A Bayesian framework is adopted. ...Source detection is approached as a model selection problem in which competing models are compared using partial Bayes factors. Given the number of sources, the posterior mean is the minimum mean square error estimator of the source parameters. Exact calculation of the partial Bayes factors and the posterior mean is not possible due to the presence of intractable integrals. Importance sampling using progressive correction is proposed as a computationally efficient method for approximating these integrals. Previously proposed algorithms have been restricted to one or two sources. A simulation analysis shows that the proposed methods can detect and accurately estimate the parameters of four sources with reasonable computational expense.
The paper presents a control strategy for the system of belt conveyors (BCs) with adjustable speed drives based on the principle of optimum energy consumption. Fuzzy logic controller is used in the ...algorithm for generating the reference speed. The proposed control structure is developed and tested on the detailed mathematical model of the drive system with the rubber belt. The presented algorithm is implemented on the new variable speed BC system with remote control on an open-pit mine. The measurements were performed to verify the proposed concept during the eight months of exploitation. Results of the measurements are presented in the paper.
