The purpose of this study was to develop a test for describing verbally aggressive behaviors of physical education teachers as perceived by secondary school students. The sample of 130 students (70 ...boys and 60 girls) were students in the second year of secondary school in Greece. 12 items designed for students were structured to describe possible verbal aggressive behaviors of physical education teachers as perceived by students and students' intention to respond. Exploratory factor analysis using the principal components method and varimax rotation yielded three factors, namely, (i) personal insults, threats, irony and their effect, (ii) intention to respond, and (iii) insults and threats toward others. Eigenvalues were greater than 1.00 for each of three factors which accounted for 69% of the total variance. Values of Cronbach alpha were .86, .88, and .78 for the three factors, respectively.
This study examined verbal aggressiveness of coaches as perceived by their athletes, 108 senior athletes (57 boys and 51 girls) ages 15-19 years. Participants were basketball players (56 athletes) ...and volleyball players (52 athletes) who completed questionnaires. The scale of verbal aggressiveness showed high internal consistency. A two-way analysis of variance, conducted using sex and sport as independent variables to examine interactions, yielded significant differences between adolescent volleyball and basketball athletes. Volleyball athletes had lower scores on the Verbal Aggressiveness Scale than basketball players. Research with larger samples and other sports is recommended.
Working memory deficiency has been implicated in developmental disorders of scholastic skills. The auditory P50 component of event-related potentials reflecting preattentive processing was ...investigated in 38 children with developmental disorders of scholastic skills and 19 sibling control children, as elicited during a working memory test. The P50 was evoked by two tones of low and high frequency (500 Hz and 3000 Hz). The group with developmental disorders of scholastic skills showed prolonged P50 latency induced by the low tone, located at the frontal area. The amplitude of P50 induced by the low tone exhibited significantly negative associations with both age and memory performance, whereas age and memory performance were associated positively. These findings indicate that preattentive processing deficits may be implicated not only in auditory cognition but also in developmental disorders of scholastic skills.
The use of accelerator driven system (ADS) like for instance the Energy Amplifier concept (EA) proposed by C. Rubbia and his group might be one of the solutions to solve the energy problem and in ...particular to answer the question: what could we do with the nuclear waste produced by the present nuclear reactors? We present in this paper the EA concept, which is illustrated by two experiments performed at the CERN-PS facility. One of them is the TARC (Transmutation by Adiabatic Resonance crossing) experiment which is designed to demonstrate the high efficiency offered by the EA to destroy the long-lived fission fragments.
In the TARC experiment the differential neutron flux {phi}(E,r-vector) of a spallation of 2.5 and 3.5 GeV/c proton in large lead block is measured in the range between 0.1 eV and 1.5 MeV. A new ...technique, using small quantities (less than 0.1 gram) of material, is used for measuring the transmutation rate as a function of neutron energy in the range between 0.1 eV up to a few keV. The method is applied to a target of 86 mg ({sup 99}Tc) mixed with 1.7 g of Aluminum. From these measurements the energy profile of the capture cross section can be extracted.
