We present a new method for the local subtraction of infrared divergences at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD, for generic infrared-safe observables. Our method attempts to ...conjugate the minimal local counterterm structure arising from a sector partition of the radiation phase space with the simplifications following from analytic integration of the counterterms. In this first implementation, the method applies to final-state massless particles. We show how our method compactly organises infrared subtraction at NLO, we deduce in detail the general structure of the subtraction terms at NNLO, and we provide a proof of principle with a complete application to a simple process at NNLO.

), by presenting a discussion ...about different frameworks to perform precise higher-order computations for high-energy physics. These approaches implement novel strategies to deal with infrared and ultraviolet singularities in quantum field theories. A special emphasis is devoted to the local cancellation of these singularities, which can enhance the efficiency of computations and lead to discover novel mathematical properties in quantum field theories.

We provide a general method to construct local infrared subtraction counterterms for unresolved radiative contributions to differential cross sections, to any order in perturbation theory. ...We start from the factorised structure of virtual corrections to scattering amplitudes, where soft and collinear divergences are organised in gauge-invariant matrix elements of fields and Wilson lines, and we define radiative eikonal form factors and jet functions which are fully differential in the radiation phase space, and can be shown to cancel virtual poles upon integration by using completeness relations and general theorems on the cancellation of infrared singularities. Our method reproduces known results at NLO and NNLO, and yields substantial simplifications in the organisation of the subtraction procedure, which will help in the construction of efficient subtraction algorithms at higher orders.

Patients with PD (N=41; mean age ± SD, 72.2 ± 6.5y).
Two high-speed exercise interventions (specifically designed yoga program and PWT) were given for 12 weeks (twice a week), and 1 nonexercise control group.
Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale motor score (UPDRSMS), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test (Mini-BESTest), Timed Up and Go, functional reach, single leg stance (SLS), postural sway test, 10-m usual and maximal walking speed tests, 1 repetition maximum (RM), and peak power (PPW) for leg press.
For the posttests, both training groups showed significant improvements (P<.05) in all physical measurements except functional reach on the more affected side, SLS, and postural sway compared with the pretests, and significantly better scores for UPDRSMS, BBS, Mini-BESTest, Timed Up and Go, functional reach on the less affected side, 10-m usual and maximal walking speed tests, 1RM, and PPW than controls, with no differences detected between the yoga program and PWT.
Both the specially designed yoga program and PWT programs can significantly improve physical performance in older persons with PD.

This double-blind, randomized study was aimed at evaluating comparatively, in postmenopausal women, the activity of a standardized soy extract (SOYSELECT) and placebo when given alone or in ...combination with conjugated equine estrogens (CEE) on early climacteric symptoms. Lipid profile, pituitary hormones, osteocalcin and endothelin levels, and vaginal and endometrial parameters were also evaluated.
Participants in the control group were given placebo, and participants in the treated group were given 400 mg/day of a standardized soy extract, corresponding to 50 mg/daily of isoflavones. After 6 weeks of treatment, CEE was also then given to each participant at a dose of 0.625 mg/day for 4 weeks. At the end of this period, soy and placebo treatment were suspended, and, until the end of the study (week 12), participants were administered 10 mg/day of medroxyprogesterone acetate in association with CEE (0.625 mg/day).
When compared with pretreatment data, on week 6 of the study, a significant (p < 0.01) reduction in the mean number of hot flushes per week was observed in participants who were receiving the standardized soy extract, whereas a more marked relief was observed in both soy and placebo groups during CEE administration. Concurrently, the severity of hot flushes, assessed by means of the Greene climacteric scale, was also reduced in the soy group participants (p < 0.001, by paired t-test). No soy-related changes were observed on vaginal cytology, endometrial thickness, uterine artery pulsatility index, or metabolic and hormonal parameters tested. Finally, CEE-related changes on genital tract, uterine vascular compartment, and pituitary hormones were not modified by soy treatment.
SOYSELECT may be a safe and efficacious therapy for relief of hot flushes in women who refuse or have contraindications for hormone replacement therapy.
Grain protein content (GPC) in durum wheat (Triticum turgidum var. durum) is negatively correlated with grain yield. To evaluate possible genetic interrelationships between GPC and grain yield per ...spike, thousand-kernel weight and kernel number per spike, quantitative trait loci (QTL) for GPC were mapped using GPC-adjusted data in a covariance analysis on yield components. Phenotypic data were evaluated in a segregating population of 120 recombinant inbred lines derived from crossing the elite cultivars Svevo and Ciccio. The material was tested at five environments in southern Italy. QTL were determined by composite interval mapping based on the Svevo × Ciccio linkage map described in Gadaleta et al. (2009) and integrated with DArT markers. The close relationship between GPC and yield components was reflected in the negative correlation between the traits and in the reduction of variance when GPC values were adjusted to yield components. Ten independent genomic regions involved in the expression of GPC were detected, six of which were associated with QTL for one or more grain yield components. QTL alleles with increased GPC effects were associated with QTL alleles with decreased effects on one or more yield component traits, or vice versa (i.e. the allelic effects were in opposite direction). Four QTL for GPC showed always significant effects, and these QTL should represent genes that influence GPC independently from variation in the yield components. Such genes are of special interest in wheat breeding since they would allow an increase in GPC without a concomitant decrease in grain yield.
