Numerical results for the attenuation constant obtained by using the generalized telegraphist’s equations (GTEs) based electromagnetic analysis method and comparison with the HFSS (High Frequency ...Structure Simulator) results are reported. To calculate the attenuation constant with the GTEs method, not only the amplitudes of the voltage modes but also the amplitudes of the current modes must be found. In this paper, it is demonstrated that the relationships reported by other authors for the amplitudes of the current modes are not correct and new ones are proposed. To validate these relationships, the attenuation constants for homogeneous and different partially dielectric-filled rectangular waveguides are computed for the fundamental propagation mode by using the GTEs based analysis method and the results are compared with those obtained with HFSS. It is shown that using the revised relationships for the amplitudes of the current modes, the GTE method can be used to compute accurately the propagation and attenuation constant, but only for propagation modes in which the components of the electric field are not oriented perpendicular to the interface between different dielectrics. This limitation is not due to the proposed current mode relationships, but is due to the GTE method which cannot highlight the electric field discontinuities.
A small-size zeroth-order resonating antenna based on a composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH TL) fabricated on high resistivity silicon substrate using coplanar waveguides (CPW) is ...proposed. The CRLH TL consists of a series of CPW interdigital capacitors and parallel short-ended CPWs. The predicted and experimental results for return loss, gain and radiation pattern are in very good agreement.
A new method to design a small-size ring coupler is proposed, showing that the coupler may be seen as consisting of fully distributed composite right/left-handed phase shifters. A 3 dB ring coupler ...is designed by using the proposed method. The coupler is analysed numerically and then experimentally characterised. It is shown that, the experimental results are in very good agreement with the expected ones. For the designed and fabricated coupler, the area reduction is about 50%, compared to the conventional ring coupler.
A module of the ATLAS electromagnetic barrel liquid argon calorimeter was exposed to the CERN electron test-beam at the H8 beam line upgraded for precision momentum measurement. The available ...energies of the electron beam ranged from 10 to 245
GeV. The electron beam impinged at one point corresponding to a pseudo-rapidity of

in the ATLAS coordinate system. A detailed study of several effects biasing the electron energy measurement allowed an energy reconstruction procedure to be developed that ensures a good linearity and a good resolution. Use is made of detailed Monte Carlo simulations based on GEANT4 which describe the longitudinal and transverse shower profiles as well as the energy distributions. For electron energies between 15 and 180
GeV the deviation of the measured incident electron energy over the beam energy is within 0.1%. The systematic uncertainty of the measurement is about 0.1% at low energies and negligible at high energies. The energy resolution is found to be about 10%

Summary form only given. In the above-named work ibid., vol. 60, no. 7, pp. 2073,2084, Jul. 2012, the problem of impedance matching using one transmission line of characteristic impedance Z c and ...electrical length θ, inserted between two impedances, Z L = R L + jX L and Z S = R S + jX S , is analyzed. In the same paper, the allowed regions for impedances Z L which may be transformed into real impedance Z is a complex impedance, an analysis on a few numerical results is presented, but the allowed regions for Z L are not specified on the Smith chart. In this Letter, based on the analysis of the condition to obtain a real number for Z c , it is shown that the allowed regions for Z L when Z S is a complex impedance may be displayed on the Smith chart, too.
A solitary primary hydatid cyst in the abdominal wall is an exceptional entity, even in countries where the Echinococcus infection has a high rate, being considered an endemic disease.
We report a ...case of a 70-year-old Caucasian man who presented to our clinic with a slow-growing painless parietal mass in the abdominal wall, right flank area. The diagnosis of cystic mass was established at the ultrasound exam. There were no findings that could describe a hydatic cyst. The punction at the surgical intervention revealed a "clear, stone liquid like"; due to the high risk of major injury of the abdominal wall, we performed partial resection of the outer cystic wall, proligerous membrane removal and drainage. The patient had an uneventful post-operative recovery. The histopathology confirmed the suspected diagnosis.
Hydatid cyst should be considered in the differential diagnosis of every abdominal intraparietal cystic mass, especially in regions where the disease is endemic. The best treatment is the total excision of the cyst preserving an intact wall (complete cystectomy). Otherwise, removing the proligerous membrane with partial pericyst's resection (partial pericystectomy) and drainage should be considered.
Cystic echinococcosis is parasitic disease due to the larval stage of the metacestode Echinococcus granulosus in the liver (80%), lungs, kidneys, spleen, myocardium etc. Humans are accidental ...intermediate hosts. Diagnosis is based on laboratory and imaging studies. Treatment is multimodal, surgical and medical. Risks for dangerous complications and relapses are quite common. Adequate follow-up is needed. Albendazole has a central role in the medical therapy of the disease.
