The design and main characteristics of particle detectors based on the Cherenkov effect and built for experiments at the 70-GeV IHEP accelerator are presented. Experiments where Cherenkov detectors ...played an especially important role to obtain new fundamental results are described.
Here, we present a measurement of the effective weak mixing angle parameter sin2θℓeff in $p\bar{p}$ → Z/γ* → μ+μ– events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, collected by the D0 detector at the ...Fermilab Tevatron Collider and corresponding to 8.6 fb–1 of integrated luminosity. The measured value of sin2θℓeffμμ = 0.23016 ± 0.00064 is further combined with the result from the D0 measurement in $p\bar{p}$ → Z/γ* → e+e– events, resulting in sin2θℓeffcomb = 0.23095 ± 0.00040. This combined result is the most precise measurement from a single experiment at a hadron collider and is the most precise determination using the coupling of the Z/γ* to light quarks.
The paper examines the new economic realities of the labor market, caused by the pandemic of COVID-19. The analyses of the effects of the crisis as a whole are systematized, and the most affected ...sectors are highlighted. Urgent policies are needed to overcome the negative trends and slow economic growth. This is complemented by the study of the integrated indicator for the economically active population in the period 2008-2021, which confirms the deterioration and insufficient effectiveness of the measures by the state.
Here, we present a study of the X±(5568) using semileptonic decays of the Bs0 meson using the full run II integrated luminosity of 10.4 fb-1 in proton-antiproton collisions at a center of mass energy ...of 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We report evidence for a narrow structure, X±(5568), in the decay sequence X±(5568) → Bs0π± where Bs0 → μ∓Ds±X, Ds± → Φπ± which is consistent with the previous measurement by the D0 Collaboration in the hadronic decay mode, X±(5568) → Bs0π± where Bs0 → J/ψΦ. The mass and width of this state are measured using a combined fit of the hadronic and semileptonic data, yielding m = 5566.9-3.1+3.2(stat)-1.2+0.6(syst) MeV/c2, Γ = 18.6-6.1+7.9(stat)-3.8+3.5(syst) MeV/c2 with a significance of 6.7σ.
The level of the current state in the field of information support (IS) of the activities of high-tech enterprises is considered in this paper. The main problems are shown on the way to achieving the ...required level of IS quality in high-tech enterprises of the country. The need for the formation of a number of standardized requirements for the IS quality of a high-tech enterprise to improve its level is determined. A typical list of requirements for the IS quality is determined and a model of a system for accounting for requirements for the IS quality is developed using the example of Scientific and technological center of unique instrumentation of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Personality is the major predictor of people's subjective well-being (
, positive affect, negative affect, and life satisfaction). Recent research in countries with high-income and strong ...self-transcendent values shows that well-being depends on multidimensional configurations of temperament and character traits (
., Joint Personality Networks) that regulate the way people learn to adapt their habits to be in accord with their goals and values, rather than individual traits. To evaluate the prevalence and the associations of different Joint Personality (temperament-character) Networks with well-being in a low-income country with weak self-transcendent values, we tested their association in Bulgarian adults, a population known to have strong secular-rationalist values but weak self-transcendent values.
The sample consisted of 443 individuals from Bulgaria (68.70% females) with a mean age of 34 years (
= 15.05). Participants self-reported personality (Temperament and Character Inventory), affect (Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule), and life satisfaction (Satisfaction with Life Scale). The personality scores were used for profiling through latent profile analysis and latent class analysis based on temperament configurations (
, Temperament Profiles) of high/low scores of Novelty Seeking (N/n), Harm Avoidance (H/h), Reward Dependence (R/r), and Persistence (P/s); and character configurations (
, Character Profiles) of high/low scores of Self-Directedness (S/s), Cooperativeness (C/c), and Self-Transcendence (T/t).
We found two Temperament Profiles and two Character Profiles that clustered into two distinctive Joint Personality Networks. All individuals in Joint Personality Network 1 had a Reliable (nhRP) Temperament Profile in combination with an Organized (SCt) Character Profile (
, a stable temperament and a healthy character configuration). About 71.9% in Joint Personality Network 2 had an Apathetic (sct) Character Profile in combination with Methodical (nHrp) or Reliable (nhRP) Temperament Profiles, while 28.1% had a Methodical (nHrp) Temperament Profile in combination with an Organized (SCt) Character Profile. Few people with high self-expressive values (
, high in all three character traits; SCT) were found. Individuals with a Joint Personality Network 1 with strong secular-rationalist values reported higher levels of positive affect and life satisfaction (
< .001), while individuals with a Joint Personality Network 2 reported higher levels of negative affect (
< .001).
Although a stable temperament and a healthy character were separately important for well-being, it was clear that it was the interaction between such temperament and character configuration that yielded greater levels of subjective well-being. Nevertheless, future research needs to investigate this interaction further to evaluate other cultures with variable configurations of personality traits and values.
Distinguishing clinically significant from indolent prostate cancer (PC) is a major clinical challenge. We utilised targeted protein biomarker discovery approach to identify biomarkers specific for ...pro-metastatic PC. Serum samples from the cancer-free group; Cambridge Prognostic Group 1 (CPG1, low risk); CPG5 (high risk) and metastatic disease were analysed using Olink Proteomics panels. Tissue validation was performed by immunohistochemistry in a radical prostatectomy cohort (n = 234). We discovered that nine proteins (pleiotrophin (PTN), MK, PVRL4, EPHA2, TFPI-2, hK11, SYND1, ANGPT2, and hK14) were elevated in metastatic PC patients when compared to other groups. PTN levels were increased in serum from men with CPG5 compared to benign and CPG1. High tissue PTN level was an independent predictor of biochemical recurrence and metastatic progression in low- and intermediate-grade disease. These findings suggest that PTN may represent a novel biomarker for the presence of poor prognosis local disease with the potential to metastasise warranting further investigation.
Tobacco (
L.) aroma is an important attribute of tobacco quality and is influenced by a variety of minor chemical components, including carotenoid degradation products. The objectives of this work ...were to determine the content of the most important fragrance-shaping carotenoid degradation products in the essential oils (EOs) of the three types of Bulgarian tobacco-Oriental (OR), flue-cured Virginia (FCV), and Burley (BU)-and to compare them with other aromatic products from tobacco. The content of total carotenoids and β-carotene was highest in BU tobacco (22.23 and 20.34 mg/100 g DW, respectively), followed by OR (13.60 and 12.09 mg/100 g DW in variety "Plovdiv 7" (Pd7); 6.27 and 5.45 mg/100 g DW in "Krumovgrad" (Kr), and FCV (5.93 and 3.73 mg/100 g DW). EOs were obtained by hydrodistillation in an acidified medium, and the main aroma-impact compounds from carotenoid degradation (identified by GC-MS) were as follows: FCV-α-ionone (0.61 mg/100 g DW), dihydro-β-ionone (0.96 mg/100 g DW), β-damascenone (1.26 mg/100 g DW); BU-α-ionone (0.73 mg/100 g DW), dihydro-β-ionone (1.19 mg/100 g DW), β-damascenone (1.35 mg/100 g DW); OR(Kr)-α-ionone (0.20 mg/100 g DW), β-ionone (1.08 mg/100 g DW), dihydro-β-ionone (1.34 mg/100 g DW), β-damascenone (0.36 mg/100 g DW); OR(Pd7)-α-ionone (1.43 mg/100 g DW), dihydro-β-ionone (1.73 mg/100 g DW), β-damascenone (1.23 mg/100 g DW). Ionone and its derivatives were not identified in the aroma extraction products concrete, resinoid, or absolute. The results suggest that temperature, pH of the medium, process duration, and possibly other unknown factors affect carotenoid transformation. The study provides insight into the composition of tobacco EOs and may be of interest to the fragrance industry.
Summary Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare, progressive, muscle-wasting disease leading to severe disability and premature death. Treatment is currently symptomatic, but several experimental ...therapies are in development. Implemented care standards, validated outcome measures correlating with clinical benefit, and comprehensive information about the natural history of the disease are essential for regulatory approval of any treatment. However, for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other rare diseases, these requirements are not always in place when potential therapies enter the clinical trial phase. A cooperative effort of stakeholders in Duchenne muscular dystrophy—including representatives from patients' groups, academia, industry, and regulatory agencies—is aimed at addressing this shortfall by identifying strategies to overcome challenges, developing the tools needed, and collecting relevant data. An open and constructive dialogue among European stakeholders has positively affected development of treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy; this approach could serve as a paradigm for development of treatments for rare diseases in general.
