The level of the current state in the field of information support (IS) of the activities of high-tech enterprises is considered in this paper. The main problems are shown on the way to achieving the ...required level of IS quality in high-tech enterprises of the country. The need for the formation of a number of standardized requirements for the IS quality of a high-tech enterprise to improve its level is determined. A typical list of requirements for the IS quality is determined and a model of a system for accounting for requirements for the IS quality is developed using the example of Scientific and technological center of unique instrumentation of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Motivation: The radioactivity labeled DNA array platform is a robust and accurate way for a high-throughput measurement of gene expression levels in biological samples. Despite its high degree of ...sensitivity and reproducibility, this platform has several sources of variation. These are related to the presence of saturation effects in the array images and impede the degree of accuracy at which gene expression levels are determined. Results: Here we describe a simple, but effective, approach for combining expression data from a series of autoradiographic exposures of variable length. This technique increases the sensitivity of this array platform by detecting low-expressed genes at longer exposures. It also improves the measurement accuracy of highly abundant genes by considering only values from the linear portion of dependency between the exposure times and gene intensities. As a result, the described approach improves the outcome of the subsequent steps of array data normalization and mining.
Agriculture is important for the sustenance of any country. But the incomes realized by agricultural producers are lower compared to those obtained in other sectors. The predominant representatives ...in the sector are micro and small enterprises. They do not have sufficient financial means to make the necessary investments in the enterprise's activity process, and their access to external financing is very limited. This necessitates the key role of state intervention in order to preserve the well-being and development of agriculture in the country. By providing state support to cooperatives, the sustainable development of agricultural producers is promoted. It aims to support the economic development of rural areas and to increase the competitiveness of agriculture in general. Based on the results obtained from the applied regression model with fixed effects, evidence is found for the positive influence of state support on the profitability of agricultural cooperatives in the South-East region of the Republic of Bulgaria. It is established that the innovation and investment activity, as well as the size of the agricultural cooperatives in the South-East region of Bulgaria, are statistically significant indicators that influence the receipt of state support.
A method for isolating active nisin-producing strains of mesophilic lactococci was developed. Overall, 55 strains of mesophilic lactic acid bacteria were isolated from fresh cow's milk obtained from ...milk farms in various regions throughout Russia; of them, 36 displayed nisin-synthesizing activity. The three most active strains were studied according to morphological, cultural, physiological, and biochemical characteristics and identified as Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis. The species attribution of the strains studied was confirmed by the similarity of the nucleotide sequences of the 16S rRNA gene. The nucleotide sequences of the 16S rRNA genes were deposited with the GenBank under accession numbers DQ255951-DQ255954. The distinctions between these strains in physiological and biochemical characteristics and the ranges of their bactericide action on the microorganisms capable of developing in agricultural materials and food products were determined. The isolated strains displayed considerably wider ranges of action, which differed from the nisin-producing strain MGU and the commercial nisin preparation (Nisaplin), used as a biological preserving agent.
The taxonomic status of new prospective bacteriocin-synthesizing strains of mesophilic lactococci isolated from raw milk and milk products from different regions of Russia and also of strain F-119, ...obtained by protoplast fusion of two related strains with low bacteriocin-synthesizing activity, was established by classical methods of identification. The values of antibiotic activity displayed by the strains toward a test microorganism Bacillus coagulans were up to 4650 IU/ml, which is significantly higher than in natural lactococci strains. In spite of some differences in morphology, ability to ferment carbohydrates, requirements for nutrients, and antibiotic suspectability, the strains were identified as Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis. The new strains differed from the classic nisin-producing strain L. lactis subsp. lactis MGU by a remarkably broad spectrum of bactericidal and fungicidal activity. Study of 16S rRNA gene sequences of new natural strains, fusants F-119 and another one obtained earlier, F-116, and their parental strains in comparison with reference strains confirmed the new strains' taxonomic status as Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis. The nucleotide sequences of 16S rRNA genes were deposited with GenBank under accession numbers EF100777-EF114305.
Motivation: Detailed comparison and analysis of the output of DNA gene expression arrays from multiple samples require global normalization of the measured individual gene intensities from the ...different hybridizations. This is needed for accounting for variations in array preparation and sample hybridization conditions. Results: Here, we present a simple, robust and accurate procedure for the global normalization of datasets generated with single-channel DNA arrays based on principal component analysis. The procedure makes minimal assumptions about the data and performs well in cases where other standard procedures produced biased estimates. It is also insensitive to data transformation, filtering (thresholding) and pre-screening.
Ferroptosis is a type of programmed cell death induced by the accumulation of lipid peroxidation and lipid reactive oxygen species in cells. It has been recently demonstrated that cancer cells are ...vulnerable to ferroptosis inducers (FIN). However, the therapeutic potential of FINs in prostate cancer in preclinical settings has not been explored. In this study, we demonstrate that mediators of ferroptosis, solute carrier family 7 member 11, SLC3A2, and glutathione peroxidase, are expressed in treatment-resistant prostate cancer. We further demonstrate that treatment-resistant prostate cancer cells are sensitive to two FINs, erastin and RSL3. Treatment with erastin and RSL3 led to a significant decrease in prostate cancer cell growth and migration
and significantly delayed the tumor growth of treatment-resistant prostate cancer
, with no measurable side effects. Combination of erastin or RSL3 with standard-of-care second-generation antiandrogens for advanced prostate cancer halted prostate cancer cell growth and migration
and tumor growth
. These results demonstrate the potential of erastin or RSL3 independently and in combination with standard-of-care second-generation antiandrogens as novel therapeutic strategies for advanced prostate cancer. SIGNIFICANCE: These findings reveal that induction of ferroptosis is a new therapeutic strategy for advanced prostate cancer as a monotherapy and in combination with second-generation antiandrogens.
