In recent years, green sand molds have been used widely for the production of steel castings and this might be due to its reduction of labors and expenditures. In our workshop, the study has been ...carried out on this subject since 1951 and has achieved notable results in the use of green molds and cores.
This study only refers to the very limited defects which we usually face with in the operation. But still these seem very important problems in practice.
The main factors which thought to cause penetration are pouring temperature, molten metal pressure, size of sand grain, moisture content in molds, mold hardness and so on. It might be very effective to use silica-flour to prevent penetration.
Bioluminescence is a natural light source based on luciferase catalysis of its substrate luciferin. We performed directed evolution on firefly luciferase using a red-shifted and highly deliverable ...luciferin analog to establish AkaBLI, an all-engineered bioluminescence in vivo imaging system. AkaBLI produced emissions in vivo that were brighter by a factor of 100 to 1000 than conventional systems, allowing noninvasive visualization of single cells deep inside freely moving animals. Single tumorigenic cells trapped in the mouse lung vasculature could be visualized. In the mouse brain, genetic labeling with neural activity sensors allowed tracking of small clusters of hippocampal neurons activated by novel environments. In a marmoset, we recorded video-rate bioluminescence from neurons in the striatum, a deep brain area, for more than 1 year. AkaBLI is therefore a bioengineered light source to spur unprecedented scientific, medical, and industrial applications.
•Stable Pickering emulsions were prepared using amphiphilic ACC-nanocellulose.•Emulsification ability of ACC-nanocellulose was superior to other nanocelluloses.•Stability of Pickering emulsions were ...sensitive to oil phase properties.
Cellulose nanofibrils prepared by aqueous counter collision (ACC-nanocelluloses) have specific properties. In this study, the use of ACC-nanocelluloses as emulsifiers and stabilizers was investigated. Oil-in-water Pickering emulsions with long-term stabilities were easily prepared by ultrasonically mixing aqueous ACC-nanocellulose dispersions with non-polar solvents. Stable Pickering emulsions were obtained because the emulsification abilities of the ACC-nanocelluloses were significantly higher than those of cellulose nanofibrils prepared by high-pressure homogenization or other chemical preparation methods. This might be due to exposure of inherently hydrophobic surface planes of cellulose nanofibrils by ACC. The emulsification and stability of the Pickering emulsions were sensitive to the solvent properties such as permittivity, density and viscosity.
Royal jelly (RJ) is known as an important functional foodstuff that promotes several health benefits and contains various bioactive substances, including major royal jelly proteins (MRJPs). Among the ...MRJPs, MRJP3 possesses both cell proliferation and wound healing effects. As the carboxyl domain of MRJP3 contains tandem penta-peptide repeat (TPR) sequences unique to MRJP3 among the MRJPs, we purified the TPRs as glutathione-S-transferase (GST)-fusion proteins and demonstrated their dose-dependent effects on THP-1 and Vero cell proliferation. The GST-TPR protein with 19 repeats (GST-TPR19) showed cell proliferative activity equivalent to MRJP3 and higher than GST-TPR6. GST-TPR19 also exhibited wound healing activity at a level similar to MRJP3. Digestion of GST-TPR19 with trypsin had no effect on its cell proliferative activity, suggesting that the main digested products; i.e., penta-peptides (Q-N-x-N-K/R), maintain the cell proliferative ability of MRJP3. In conclusion, the TPRs of MRJP3 are critical to the beneficial effect(s) of RJ.
As atherosclerosis begins in childhood, early diagnosis and treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is considered necessary. The basic diagnosis of pediatric FH (under 15 years of age) is ...based on hyper-low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterolemia and a family history of FH; however, in this guideline, to reduce overlooked cases, “probable FH” was established. Once diagnosed with FH or probable FH, efforts should be made to promptly provide lifestyle guidance, including diet. It is also important to conduct an intrafamilial survey, to identify family members with the same condition. If the level of LDL-C remains above 180 mg/dL, drug therapy should be considered at the age of 10. The first-line drug should be statin. Evaluation of atherosclerosis should be started using non-invasive techniques, such as ultrasound. The management target level is an LDL-C level of less than 140 mg/dL. If a homozygous FH is suspected, consult a specialist and determine the response to pharmacotherapy with evaluating atherosclerosis. If the response is inadequate, initiate lipoprotein apheresis as soon as possible.
