DEAP-3600 is a single-phase liquid argon detector aiming to directly detect weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), located at SNOLAB (Sudbury, Canada). After analyzing data taken during the ...first year of operation, a null result was used to place an upper bound on the WIMP-nucleon, spin-independent, isoscalar cross section. This study reinterprets this result within a nonrelativistic effective field theory framework and further examines how various possible substructures in the local dark matter halo may affect these constraints. Such substructures are hinted at by kinematic structures in the local stellar distribution observed by the Gaia satellite and other recent astronomical surveys. These include the Gaia Sausage (or Enceladus), as well as a number of distinct streams identified in recent studies. Limits are presented for the coupling strength of the effective contact interaction operators O1, O3, O5, O8, and O11, considering isoscalar, isovector, and xenonphobic scenarios, as well as the specific operators corresponding to millicharge, magnetic dipole, electric dipole, and anapole interactions. The effects of halo substructures on each of these operators are explored as well, showing that the O5 and O8 operators are particularly sensitive to the velocity distribution, even at dark matter masses above 100 GeV / c2.
The DEAP-3600 detector searches for the scintillation signal from dark matter particles scattering on a 3.3 tonne liquid argon target. The largest background comes from

Ar
beta decays and is ...suppressed using pulse-shape discrimination (PSD). We use two types of PSD estimator: the prompt-fraction, which considers the fraction of the scintillation signal in a narrow and a wide time window around the event peak, and the log-likelihood-ratio, which compares the observed photon arrival times to a signal and a background model. We furthermore use two algorithms to determine the number of photons detected at a given time: (1) simply dividing the charge of each PMT pulse by the mean single-photoelectron charge, and (2) a likelihood analysis that considers the probability to detect a certain number of photons at a given time, based on a model for the scintillation pulse shape and for afterpulsing in the light detectors. The prompt-fraction performs approximately as well as the log-likelihood-ratio PSD algorithm if the photon detection times are not biased by detector effects. We explain this result using a model for the information carried by scintillation photons as a function of the time when they are detected.
Nerium oleander is potentially lethal plants after ingestion. We report a case of poisoning by these plants. Our patient complained of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. He had bradycardia during first ...twelve hours. He was discharge after 3 days. All parts of these plants are toxic and contain a variety of cardiac glycosides including oleandrin. In most cases, clinical management of poisoning by N. oleander involves administration of activated charcoal and supportive care. Digoxin specific Fab fragments are an effective treatment.
To characterize and compare patients with disproportionate PH versus patients with primary pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
All patients referred to our cardiology unit for echocardiography ...from November 2006 to May 2008 and who have been followed by our pneumologist were screened for severe PH (i.e mean arterial pulmonary pressure>35-40 mmHg at rest). Patients were excluded if a factor that could influence pulmonary hemodynamics was present. We investigated these patients by pulmonary function tests, echocardiography and right heart catheterisation.
We reported 16 cases of severe PH in stable patients (n=8, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-emphysema) and 13 patients with PAH. Our findings suggest that the patients with disproportionate PH had right heart dysfunction similar to that observed in PAH. But their outcomes were more severe. It seemed that specific vasodilatator therapy was not efficient.
L’hypertension pulmonaire liée aux affections pulmonaires chroniques (HTAP classe 3) et principalement à la bronchopneumopathie obstructive chronique est rarement sévère. À l’état stable quand la ...pression artérielle pulmonaire moyenne est supérieure à 35–40mmHg, on parle d’hypertension artérielle pulmonaire disproportionnée (HTPD). Nous rapportons ainsi les caractéristiques et le suivi d’une série de 16 de ces patients et les comparons à des patients atteints d’hypertension artérielle pulmonaire idiopathique (HTAP classe 1) suivis dans notre centre. Si les caractéristiques échocardiographiques et hémodynamiques sont similaires, le pronostic des patients HTPD est plus sévère avec des réadmissions pour insuffisance cardiaque droite plus fréquentes. Le sous-groupe de patients atteint de BPCO est caractérisé par un trouble obstructif modéré avec une hypoxie sévère associé à des troubles de la diffusion du CO important. Les mécanismes physiopathologiques de l’HTPD sont encore mal compris. L’utilisation des traitements vasodilatateurs spécifiques de l’HTAP reste sujette à caution.

L’ingestion de laurier rose est potentiellement mortelle. Nous présentons le cas d’une tentative de suicide au laurier rose. Notre patient, dépressif, a été pris en charge pour un tableau digestif ...avec nausées et diarrhées. La surveillance initiale en soins intensifs cardiologique montrait la survenue d’un trouble conductif majeur. L’intoxication au laurier rose est similaire à celle au digitalique en raison de la présence d’oléandrine dans la fleur, les feuilles et la tige de cet arbuste. Un traitement par anticorps antidigoxine (Fab) peut être proposé.

We studied a new technique based on a tissue tracking algorithm that is ultrasound beam angle independent for automated detection of tricuspid annular displacement (TAD) (QLAB, Philips Medical Imaging). Twenty-six patients (pts) referred for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 44 control subjects underwent a complete transthoracic echocardiography. MRI of the right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF) was correlated by linear regression with TAD. Sixteen pts (61.5%) exhibited right ventricular systolic dysfunction (MRI RVEF<40%).
The MRI RVEF was positively correlated with TAD (R(2)=0,65; p<0,0001). A value of TAD <14mm predicted right ventricular dysfunction with a sensitivity of 87.5% and a specificity of 90%. Most of (90%) healthy subjects exhibited TAD values exceeding this cut-off point (mean: 16.9+/-1.64mm; range: 13.3 to 24.8mm). Negative correlation was found between TAD and age (R(2)=0,36; p<0,0001).
Our study is the first to correlate TAD with MRI RVEF. TAD is a simple, rapid, and non-invasive tool for right ventricular systolic function assessment.
Dark matter with Planck-scale mass (≃10^{19} GeV/c^{2}) arises in well-motivated theories and could be produced by several cosmological mechanisms. A search for multiscatter signals from ...supermassive dark matter was performed with a blind analysis of data collected over a 813 d live time with DEAP-3600, a 3.3 t single-phase liquid argon-based detector at SNOLAB. No candidate signals were observed, leading to the first direct detection constraints on Planck-scale mass dark matter. Leading limits constrain dark matter masses between 8.3×10^{6} and 1.2×10^{19} GeV/c^{2}, and ^{40}Ar-scattering cross sections between 1.0×10^{-23} and 2.4×10^{-18} cm^{2}. These results are interpreted as constraints on composite dark matter models with two different nucleon-to-nuclear cross section scalings.

Compression of the main and left pulmonary artery by an anterior mediastinal nonseminomatous germ cell tumors (GCTs) was diagnosed by transthoracic echocardiography and CT scan.
