Plant-extracted triterpenoids belong to a class of bioactive compounds with pleotropic functions, including antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory effects. In this work, we investigated the ...anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activities of a semisynthetic derivative of 18βH-glycyrrhetinic acid (18βH-GA), soloxolone methyl (methyl 2-cyano-3,12-dioxo-18βH-olean-9(11),1(2)-dien-30-oate, or SM) in vitro on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages and in vivo in models of acute inflammation: LPS-induced endotoxemia and carrageenan-induced peritonitis. SM used at non-cytotoxic concentrations was found to attenuate the production of reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide (II) and increase the level of reduced glutathione production by LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Moreover, SM strongly suppressed the phagocytic and migration activity of activated macrophages. These effects were found to be associated with the stimulation of heme oxigenase-1 (HO-1) expression, as well as with the inhibition of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and Akt phosphorylation. Surprisingly, it was found that SM significantly enhanced LPS-induced expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in RAW264.7 cells via activation of the c-Jun/Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling axis. In vivo pre-exposure treatment with SM effectively inhibited the development of carrageenan-induced acute inflammation in the peritoneal cavity, but it did not improve LPS-induced inflammation in the endotoxemia model.
The process e+e−→K+K− has been studied using 1.7×106 events from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.7 pb−1 collected with the CMD-3 detector in the center-of-mass energy ...range 1010–1060 MeV. The cross section is measured with about 2% systematic uncertainty and is used to calculate the contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon aμK+K−=(19.33±0.40)×10−10, and to obtain the ϕ(1020) meson parameters. We consider the relationship between the e+e−→K+K− and e+e−→KS0KL0 cross sections and compare it to the theoretical prediction.
To control the parameters of PIN photodiodes during their mass production, a high-performance automated multifunctional stand has been developed. The stand provides measurement of dark current, ...capacitance at operating voltage, and response to a light signal with simultaneous connection of up to 16 photodiodes and successive verification of their characteristics.

A high performance particle identification (PID) system is essential for the successful realization of the broad physics program at the future Super C-τ Factory in Novosibirsk. The main requirements ...for the PID system are as follows: good π/K-separation in the entire operational momentum range and good μ∕π-separation in the momentum range from 0.3 to 1.2 GeV/c. The RICH detector based on focusing aerogel radiator (FARICH) and position-sensitive photon detector meets all these requirements. The FARICH method is described, and the beam test results are presented. The FARICH system design outline for the Super C-τ Factory project is presented. Most promising photon detector options are considered.
The process e+e−→K+K−π+π− has been studied in the center-of-mass energy range from 1500 to 2000 MeV using a data sample of 23 pb−1 collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 e+e− collider. ...Using about 24 000 selected events, the e+e−→K+K−π+π− cross section has been measured with a systematic uncertainty decreasing from 11.7% at 1500–1600 MeV to 6.1% above 1800 MeV. A preliminary study of K+K−π+π− production dynamics has been performed.

In June 2012 we tested a Focusing Aerogel RICH detector prototype based on Digital Photon Counters (DPC) by Philips at the CERN PS T10 beam line with a particle momentum up to 6GeV/c. The prototype ...comprises a 20×20cm2 photon detector with 48×48 DPC pixels. In order to reduce the dark count rate, the photon detector was cooled to −40°C in addition to disabling individual DPC's microcells. A four layer focusing aerogel radiator with 200mm focal distance was studied. We obtained a Cherenkov angle resolution of 3.61±0.04mrad. The mean number of photoelectrons in a ring is 12. Directly measured π/K separation at 6GeV/c momentum is 3.5σ, μ/π separation is 5.3σ at 1GeV/c. A comparison with a Monte Carlo simulation is presented as well.
