In this paper, we propose an improved evolutionary programming based on single-point mutation, which is named Single-Point Mutation Evolutionary Programming (SPMEP). The distinctions between SPMEP ...and the classical evolutionary programming (EP) are the single-point mutation for each solution in each iteration and the fixed mutation scheme for deviation
η. Simulation results show that SPMEP is obviously superior to the classical EP, fast EP and generalized EP for multimodal and high-dimensional functions.
Many formulas available in the literature for computing sediment transport rates are often expressed in terms of time mean variables such as time mean bed shear stress or flow velocity, while effects ...of turbulence intensity, e.g., bed shear stress fluctuation, on sediment transport were seldom considered. This may be due to the fact that turbulence fluctuation is relatively limited in laboratory open‐channel flows, which are often used for conducting sediment transport experiments. However, turbulence intensity could be markedly enhanced in practice. This note presents an analytical method to compute bed load transport by including effects of fluctuations in the bed shear stress. The analytical results obtained show that the transport rate enhanced by turbulence can be expressed as a simple function of the relative fluctuation of the bed shear stress. The results are also verified using data that were collected recently from specifically designed laboratory experiments. The present analysis is applicable largely for the condition of a flat bed that is comprised of uniform sand particles subject to unidirectional flows.
Blind source separation is discussed with more sources than mixtures in this paper. The blind separation technique includes two steps. The first step is to estimate a mixing matrix, and the second is ...to estimate sources. If the sources are sparse, the mixing matrix can be estimated by using the generalized exponential mixture model. The generalized exponential mixture model is a powerful uniform framework to learn the mixing matrix for sparse sources. A gradient learning algorithm for the generalized exponential mixture model is derived. After estimating the mixing matrix, the sources can be obtained by using the maximum a posteriori approach. The speech-signal experiments demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed approach.
Expectation–Maximization (EM) algorithms for independent component analysis are presented in this paper. For super-Gaussian sources, a variational method is employed to develop an EM algorithm in ...closed form for learning the mixing matrix and inferring the independent components. For sub-Gaussian sources, a symmetrical form of the Pearson mixture model (Neural Comput. 11 (2) (1999) 417–441) is used as the prior, which also enables the development of an EM algorithm in fclosed form for parameter estimation.
Electroless cobalt plating on spherical nickel hydroxide is tested in order to improve the conductivity of Ni(OH)
2 and the capacity of the electrode. The factors affecting the process of electroless ...cobalt plating are cobalt solution, temperature and pH, etc. The effects have been examined and the optimum process parameters have been obtained. The nickel hydroxide electrode which is made by nickel hydroxide deposited cobalt has excellent performance, the results showing that electroless cobalt plating on the surface of spherical nickel hydroxide particles is an effective method for modifying electrodes.
In Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) processors, co-scheduled threads share the processor’s resources, but at the same time compete for them. A thread missing in L2 cache may hold a large number of ...resources which other threads could be using to make forward progress. And as a result, the overall performance of SMT processors is degraded. Currently, many instruction fetch policy focus on this problem. However, these policies are not perfect, and each has its own disadvantages. Especially, these policies are designed for processors implementing any ways simultaneous multithreading. The disadvantages of these policies may become more serious when they are used in two-context SMT processors.
In this paper, we propose a novel fetch policy called RG-FP (Resource Gating based on Fetch Priority), which is specially designed for two-context SMT processors. RG-FP combines reducing fetch priority with controlling shared resource allocation to prevent the negative effects caused by loads missing in L2 cache. Simulation results show that our RG-FP policy outperforms previously proposed fetch policies for all types of workloads in both throughput and fairness, especially for memory bounded workloads. Results also tell that our policy shows different degrees of improvement over other fetch policies. The increment over PDG is greatest, reaching 41.8% in throughput and 50.0% in Hmean on average.
With a 511-slit one-dimensional (1D) Hadamard mask and a highly sensitive linear charge-coupled device (CCD), spatial multiplexing is performed and a programmable Hadamard transform (HT) microscopic ...fluorescence imaging system was developed. The system can generate 511×512
pixel format images for small samples. Sensitivity, signal to noise ratio, imaging speed and spatial resolution of this system were discussed. The results show that the system can be applied for single-cell imaging sensitively in a short time. Spatial resolution up to 0.24
μm/pixel, which is close to the resolution limit of the conventional optical microscope, has been obtained under oil lens. The weak native fluorescence imaging for pollen cells can be realized within 1
min. The system has been applied for multi-parameter evaluation of tumor malignancy based on nuclear DNA ploidy measurements for one breast tumor specimen. The result indicates that the system has good application prospect in cell biology and medicine.
Subcutaneous injection of potassium cyanide (6, 8, and 9 mg/kg) caused a severe tonic seizure in a dose-dependent manner. However, the incidence of seizures induced by potassium cyanide was ...significantly inhibited by preadministration of melatonin (20 mg/kg, s.c.). Lipid peroxidation in homogenates from whole brain of mice was significantly increased (39%, 106% and 132%, respectively) by the exposure to potassium cyanide (0.01, 0.05, and 0.1 mM). The potassium cyanide (0.1 mM)-induced lipid peroxidation was prevented by melatonin (0.1, 0.5, 1.0, or 2 mM) in a concentration-dependent manner. These results suggest that free radicals formation and subsequent lipid peroxidation may contribute in part to the development of seizures induced by cyanide in mice.
