The aim of our study was to examine whether the participation in Balint group is associated with the reducing burnout syndrome among primary health care doctors. This investigation was conducted on a ...population of 210 doctors employed in primary health centers in Belgrade. Out of 210 doctors, 70 have completed Balint training for a period of at least 1 year, whereas 140 doctors have never attended this training (the Non-Balint group). The level of burnout among physicians was assessed with the Serbian translation of the original 22-item version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey which defines burnout in relation to emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment. We found that 45.0% of the Non-Balint participants and 7.1% of the Balint-trained participants responded with symptoms of high level of emotional exhaustion, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). In relation to depersonalization, 20% of the Non-Balint subjects were highly depersonalized compared to 4.4% of the Balint-trained subjects, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). Regarding the personal accomplishment, 21.4% of the Non-Balint subjects and 7.1% of the Balint-trained subjects had a perception of low personal accomplishment, with a statistical significance (p < 0.001). In the multiple ordinal logistic model, with emotional exhaustion as a dependent variable, statistically significant predictor was female gender (OR = 2.51; p = 0.021), while Balint training was obtained as a protective factor (OR = 0.12; p < 0.001). Non-specialists were detected as a risk factor for depersonalization (OR = 2.14; p = 0.026) while Balint group was found as a protective factor (OR = 0.10; p < 0.001), according to the multiple ordinal logistic regression analysis.
Regarding the reduced personal accomplishment, our results indicated that nonspecialists were at risk for this subdimension (OR = 2.09; p = 0.025), whereas Balint participants were protected (OR = 0.18; p < 0.001). Jugular vein aneurysm is a rare morphologic entity. This report describes a case of an asymptomatic internal jugular vein aneurysm that presented as an enlarging mass in the neck. Diagnosis was ...established with duplex ultrasonography and venography. No thrombus was diagnosed in the aneurysm, but since the patient was uncomfortable with having a tumor in his neck, surgery was performed with resection of the aneurysm and lateral venorrhaphy of the jugular vein.
In this study, the behavior of glass-ceramics synthesized from a glass frit
of FFW (Final Flotation Waste) originated from the RTB Bor Company was
investigated. Thermal shock resistance was monitored ...in order to assess the
possibility of application of such waste material. Thermal shock of the
samples was conducted using water quench test. Image analysis and ultrasonic
measurements were used as nondestructive methods for quantification of
thermal shock damage at the surface and in the bulk of the specimens. Phase
composition of samples was determined by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD). The
degradation level of samples was about 43 % after 20 cycles of water quench
tests. The results pointed out that glass-ceramic material exhibited good
thermal shock resistance.

Electric light sources could produce light flickers that might have biological effects. Although light flicker is not always visible to the human eye, it may impact certain human health. Eye strain, ...headaches, migraines, impaired vision, and, in sensitive people, photo epilepsy are just a few of the negative impacts of light flicker. Many international organisations have been working on lighting standards measurement in response to the growing concern about the flicker rate. This paper's aim is, besides summarising data from the literature, to give measured data for the flicker rate of some light sources available in Serbia and suggest further steps in the light designing process regarding flicker to avoid adverse biological effects.
Primary distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) is an inherited disease characterized by the inability of the distal tubule to lower urine pH <5.50 during systemic acidosis. We report two male siblings ...who presented with severe hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, high urinary pH, nephrocalcinosis, growth retardation, sensorineural hearing loss, and hypokalemic paralysis. Laboratory investigations revealed proximal tubular dysfunction (low molecular weight proteinuria, generalized hyperaminoaciduria, hypophosphatemia with hyperphosphaturia, and hypouricemia with hyperuricosuria). There was significant hyperoxaluria and laboratory evidence for mild rhabdomyolysis. Under potassium and alkali therapy, proximal tubular abnormalities, muscular enzymes, and oxaluria normalized. A homozygous mutation in the
ATP6V1B1
gene, which is responsible for dRTA with early hearing loss, was detected in both siblings. In conclusion, proximal tubular dysfunction and hyperoxaluria may be found in children with dRTA and are reversible under appropriate therapy.
Primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1) is a rare autosomal recessive inborn error of the glyoxylate metabolism that is based on absence, deficiency or mislocalization of the liver-specific peroxisomal ...enzyme alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase. Hyperoxaluria leads to recurrent formation of calculi and/or nephrocalcinosis and often early end-stage renal disease (ESRD) accompanied by systemic calcium oxalate crystal deposition. In this report, we describe an adult female patient with only one stone passage before development of ESRD. With unknown diagnosis of PH, the patient received an isolated kidney graft and developed an early onset of graft failure. Although initially presumed as an acute rejection, the biopsy revealed calcium oxalate crystals, which then raised a suspicion of primary hyperoxaluria. The diagnosis was later confirmed by hyperoxaluria, elevated plasma oxalate levels and mutation of the
AGXT
gene, showing the patient to be compound heterozygous for the c.33_34InsC and c.508G > A mutations. Plasma oxalate levels did not decrease after high-dose pyridoxine treatment. Based on this case report, we would recommend in all patients even with a minor history of nephrolithiasis but progression to chronic renal failure to exclude primary hyperoxaluria before isolated kidney transplantation is considered.

The aim of our study was to ...determine specificity and significance of vascular anastomosis in liver transplantation by postoperative evaluation of vascular anastomosis function.
The study included 16 patients with 16 liver transplantations and one re-do liver transplantation. In all patients, preoperative angiography and postoperative duplex sonographic and angiographic evaluation of vascular anastomosis were performed.
Preoperative angiographic evaluation did not reveal anomalies in liver blood vessels of transplant candidates. In one patient, we identified and angiographically confirmed stenosis on anastomosis of the hepatic artery on the 7th postoperative day. In another patient, we had artificial thrombosis of the hepatic artery branch due to the liver biopsy.
The successful performance of vascular anastomosis in liver transplantation is significant for adequate liver graft perfusion, good postoperative graft function and overall outcome of the liver transplantation.
