In selection of optimal propagation method for medicinal and aromatic plants the most relevant criteria are the propagation rate, biomass production and net production of active (useful) compounds, ...that determine the chemical quality of the drug plants. Essential paramethers of seed quality (vigor, viability) as well as some experiences on generative and/or vegetative propagation are reviewed. The seed material, that has not been complied to selection/breeding mostly issues non-homogenous descendants as regards biomass production, developmental homogenity and raw materials' quality. This is the reason why in the introduction of cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants the vegetative propagation of plants is recommended, especially at species with slow and low germination rate.
Ispitan je kemijski sastav (voda, proteini, pepeo, intramuskularna mast, kolesterol, sastav masnih kiselina), senzorska svojstva te instrumentalno mjerene vrijednosti (boja i tekstura) tkiva nemasnog ...mesa kunića. Meso je potjecalo od tri različita roda genotipa SIKA (genotip A – ženska loza, C – muška loza, AC – hibridna loza oca i majke), a životinje oba spola pri klanju su bile stare 93 i 105 dana. Kunići su hranjeni komercijalnom hranom ad libitum. Od 36 životinja skupljeni su leđni mišići (m. longissimus lumborum), zatim mišići s trbušne stijenke i stražnjih nogu. Meso kunića prosječno sadržava 71,5 % vode, 22,0 % proteina, 1,17 % pepela, 5,4 % intramuskularne masti, 67,6 mg kolesterola/100 g svježeg mesa, a od masnih kiselina 34,1 % čine mononezasićene, 25,1 % polinezasićene i 40,9 % zasićene masne kiseline. Prema masenom omjeru nezasićenih i zasićenih masnih kiselina (0,62), aterogenog indeksa (0,70), masenog omjera n-6/n-3 (8,1) i količine kolesterola vidi se da se meso kunića može i treba koristiti u uravnoteženoj prehrani. Meso ženki kunića sadržava više intramuskularne masti i kolesterola u usporedbi s mužjacima (5,7 prema 5,2 g intramuskularne masti/100 g; p0,05; 71,5 prema 63,7 mg kolesterola/100 g; p0,01). Genotipskaloza ne utječe na sastav masnih kiselina niti na količinu kolesterola, ali bitno utječe na intramuskularnu mast (A loza 5,0 g/100 g; AC loza 5,9 g/100 g; C loza 5,4 g/ 100 g; p0,05), kao i na vrijednosti prerezivanja vlakana (aparat Instron; A loza 43 N; AC loza 38 N; C loza 42 N; p0,05). Meso 105 dana starih kunića sadržava više intramuskularne masti (5,7 prema 5,2 g/100 g; p0,05), a prema izgledu je tamnije i crvenije (prosudba na osnovi senzorske analize i instrumentalno mjerenih vrijednosti L* i a*; p0,01) u usporedbi s 93 dana starim kunićima.
Electropermeabilization (electroporation) is a technique widely used to introduce various membrane-impermeable molecules into cells in vitro or in vivo. In this study we determined the effect of ...different electric-field intensities on electropermeabilization and electrosensitivity of a variety of tumor-cell lines in vitro. For this purpose we used two assays: propidium iodide uptake for measurement of cell electropenneabilization, and the clono-genic or MTT assay for determination of electrosensitivity. Our results showed that electropermeabilization of almost all cell lines tested occurred at 600 V/cm. In contrast, a marked difference in electrosensitivity existed among these cell lines. Our results could be of great importance for pharmacological and biochemical studies in vilro, and for prediction and determination of tumor response in vivo to electropermeabilization combined with chemo-therapeutic drugs (electrochemotherapy) and gene therapy.
The oldest Neogene marine sedimentary rocks on the northern slopes of Gorjanci are ascribed to Upper Badenian. On the basis of the lithologic characteristics five different lithotypes were recognized ...and they can be combined into one lithostratigraphic column.Although the sedimentation has been controlled by the sinsedimentary tectonics we can identify all Badenian global eustatic events (sequences). According to foraminiferal biostratigraphythe lithologic succesion can be into the Upper Badenian Bulimina – Bolivina biozone and Lower Sarmatian zone of the Elphidium reginum biozone. The Bulimina - Bolivina biozone reflects the stratification of water masses suggesting a high-stand deposits that can be correlated to the HS TB 2.4 eustatic cycle and the upper part of thenannoplankton NN5 biozone respectively. The lithologic succesion is assigned to one formation divided into two members: the lower carbonate and the upper clastic one. We propose the name Čatež formation for the described lithologic succession.
Nowadays, processed drug plants exemplify modern alternative products which appeared in European and world economies as market niches. New domestic and international markets for these products offer ...to the agrarian economies self-supply of raw material, new possibilities for employment, and render the economy stable, permanent and prosperous. The competitiveness of plant raw material on the European marketplace, where quality became the essential necessity, can only be assured if following parameters are respected: decide on prosperous plant species, its accurate taxonomic identification (genotype specification) and implementation of good agricultural practice to the production agrosystems. In medicinal and aromatic plants agrosystems, the key link in success chain is a marketing system through which the product is distributed. The results of market analysis showed , that the yield issued from the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants on the area of about 20 ha is estimated to 50 tons. 165 tons of drug plants is obtained from native habitats. Overall supply of drug plants and of their half-products (domestic supply 215 t, import of drug plants 1157 t, import of half-products - fluid extracts, dry/dense extracts, essential oils 62 t) exceeds overall demand after drug plants. 707 t of drug plants and 8.2 t of half-products, which could be cultivated/produced in Slovenia, are imported. Discrepancy between demand and supply shows the need of quality-based regulation of imports and/or development of domestic cultivation/processing of medicinal and aromatic plants/half-products.
This paper describes two simple algorithms for detection of uterine contractions during labour using the uterine electromyogram recorded from the abdominal surface. The location of a contraction is ...extracted from the signal’s energy using either an amplitude- or derivative-based algorithm. For our recordings, these algorithms managed to correctly locate the majority of contractions, with an average success rate of 87.4% for the derivative-based algorithm and 85.6% for the amplitude-based algorithm.
