The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how the friction control between wheel and rail can solve wheel/rail contact problems, such as wheel slip, rail corrugation, squeak noises, wheel/rail wear ...and so on. This paper presents the results of the fundamental tests which were carried out to clarify the physical performances of friction modifier, and general outline of 'On Board Friction Control System' developed by authors. The performance of the proposed system is proved in experiments on the service line, showing the decrease of harmful wheel/rail forces, reduction of squeak noise, and prevention of rail vibration in lateral direction.
The wheel fiat on the wheel traed of railway vehicle has influence on the property of the bogie and car. It causes not noly noise and vibration, but sometimes causes fatigue of the parts of car. To ...clarify the formation mechanism of wheel flat, the wheel slipping experiment has been done by using a specially designed car with measurement bogie on the actual truck. During the experiment, a previous phenomenon which has notable relation with the generation wheel slipping was observed. The phenomenon generated was the torsional vibration of the axle just before the wheel slipping while braking and the wheel-readhesion during the brake release. In this paper, details of the special designed car are explained and the characteristics of pre-slipping phenomenon are reported.
When a vehicle runs through a sharp curve, several undesirable phenomena related to the wheel-rail contact can be observed. These include high-frequency squeal at the wheel-rail contact point on the ...low rail, loud noise from the wheel flange-rail contact on the high rail, excessive rail and wheel wear, together with noise and vibration generated by rail corrugations.
