emerge as microcosmic representations of contemporary Egypt and Turkey, respectively, through their focus on apartment ...buildings and their residents. Both the Yacoubian Building of Cairo and Bonbon Palace of Istanbul, once famous for their grandeur and now in a dilapidated state, embody the social, political and economic transformation of each society not only through the depiction of diverse characters inhabiting these buildings but also with the architectural and spatial characteristics of the buildings themselves. As social hierarchies and relations are mapped onto spatial organization and architectural details, the very physicality of these buildings gains importance to comprehend the complicated, and at times tumultuous, individual and collective stories and histories. This article focuses on the uses of space and history of urban space to examine the representation of the notions of memory, nostalgia, and disillusionment within the context of these two societies. As these multi-story buildings become manifestations of the multilayered history and structure of each society, they also reveal the tensions and fragmentation in contemporary urban life and space. While both these novels, with the microcosm of buildings’ residents, strive to create a sense of collective belonging as
one big family living under the same roof
, their rather bleak portrayals of the buildings, nonetheless, underline a fragmented and ruptured sense of belonging and overall disenchantment, thus questioning the idea of shared destiny and the promise of common future.

As the cultural capital of both the Ottoman Empire and Republic of Turkey, Istanbul has assumed a central role in the literary imagination of the cultural legacy of the imperial past and the modern ...nation-state. When we consider Turkish literary history, construction of a national literary tradition reveals a close engagement with the West and Western modernity, often resulting in epistemological and ontological questions about the self searching for their place in the world. If Istanbul serves as the main ground for mapping out the anxieties about the national culture, it also provides the opportunity to reach beyond the national boundaries with its multi-layered and cosmopolitan past. In this paper, I contend that Istanbul, for several authors from Turkey, emerges as an important novelistic element and character so much so that it, on the one hand, enables them to discuss the possibilities and limits of the national literature and on the other hand becomes a venue for recognition as part of world literary studies. In this paper, I focus on three novels by three internationally acclaimed authors from Turkey, namely Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Orhan Pamuk and Burhan Sönmez, so as to examine the spatial representation of Istanbul at the intersection of national and world literature. Raja Rao’s Kanthapura (1938) focuses on the story of how Gandhian ideology reaches the village of Kanthapura and changes the villagers’ lives drastically. Rao’s portrayal of national identity, by ...putting the village in the center, relies heavily on the use of centuries-old Indian culture and traditions in order to create a sense of shared history and collective sense of belonging against British colonialism. In the novel, the villagers re-discover their shared cultural and religious past in their attempt to find the strength to fight against colonial domination and envision a new society. Thus, the narrative’s imagining of the future society follows a past-oriented trajectory, namely combining the past, present and future in the microcosmos of the village. I contend that the temporal origin of the projected nationhood determines the limitations and possibilities for the formation of the idea of nation and the future society.
The deep geothermal energy project at Soultz-sous-Forêts is located in the Upper Rhine Graben, France. As part of the Multidisciplinary and multi-contact demonstration of EGS exploration and ...Exploitation Techniques and potentials (MEET) project, this study aimed to evaluate the possibility of extracting higher amounts of energy from the existing industrial infrastructure. To achieve this objective, the effect of reinjecting fluid at lower temperature than the current fluid injection temperature of 70 °C was modeled and the drop in the production wellhead temperature for 100 years of operation was quantified. Two injection-production rate scenarios were considered and compared for their effect on overall production wellhead temperature. For each scenario, reinjection temperatures of 40, 50, and 60 °C were chosen and compared with the 70 °C injection case. For the lower production rate scenario, the results show that the production wellhead temperature is approximately 1–1.5 °C higher than for the higher production rate scenario after 100 years of operation. In conclusion, no significant thermal breakthrough was observed with the applied flow rates and lowered injection temperatures even after 100 years of operation.
Parry–Romberg syndrome (PRS) or progressive hemifacial atrophy is a rare entity characterized by unilateral atrophy of the skin, subcutaneous tissue and sometimes bone and cartilage. Although this ...syndrome has overlapping features of scleroderma ‘en coup de sabre’, it shows little or no sclerosis and may affect the entire distribution of the trigeminal nerve including the eye and tongue. As the pathogenesis is unknown, no effective therapy exists. We present here the third case of PRS associated with borreliosis and more interestingly two cases whose progressive course have been stabilized with gel PUVA therapy.
Bu araştırmanın amacı örgütlerde bilgi paylaşımının erdemli raporlama (whistleblowing) üzerindeki etkisinde birey- örgüt uyumunun aracılık rolünün belirlenmesidir. Çalışma erdemli raporlamaya karşı ...farkındalık oluşturmak açısından önemlidir. Nicel araştırma deseninin benimsendiği çalışmada örneklemi, Kırşehir’de faaliyet gösteren küçük, orta ve büyük ölçekteki işletmelerde çalışanlar oluşturmaktadır. Kolayda örnekleme yöntemiyle ulaşılan 448 kişiyle, çevrimiçi anket yoluyla veriler toplanmıştır. Toplanan verilerin analiz edilmesinde kısmi en küçük kareler yol analizi (PLS-SEM) tercih edilmiş olup Smart-PLS istatistik programı kullanılarak analiz gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma verilerinden elde edilen bulgulara göre bilgi paylaşımı tutumunun erdemli raporlama üzerindeki etkisinde birey-örgüt uyumunun aracılık rolü bulunamamıştır. Bunun yanı sıra bilgi paylaşımının birey-örgüt uyumu üzerinde pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı etkisi ile birey-örgüt uyumunun erdemli raporlama üzerinde pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı etkisi bulunmaktadır. Elde edilen sonuçlar örgütlerde uygulanan bilgi paylaşımı tutumunun ve birey- örgüt uyumunun etik dışı sonuçları açığa çıkarmada etkisi olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışanların olumlu bilgi paylaşımı tutumları onların birey- örgüt uyumlarını iyileştirmekte, birey- örgüt uyumu iyileştikçe erdemli raporlama davranışına olan meyilleri artmaktadır. Çalışanların olumlu bilgi paylaşımı tutumları erdemli raporlama davranışına teşvik ederken, bireyin çalıştığı örgütle olan uyumu bu teşviki artırmamaktadır. Bu durumun tersine çalışanların olumsuz bilgi paylaşımı tutumları, erdemli raporlama davranışından kaçınmayı teşvik ederken, bireyin çalıştığı örgütle olan uyumsuzluğu bu teşviki artırmamaktadır. Çalışandaki, erdemli raporlama davranışının kültürel olarak olumsuz algı yaratmasına yönelik kaygıların, bireyin örgütle uyum veya uyumsuzluğundan bağımsız geliştiğini ve bu nedenle aracılık rolünün bulunmadığını ifade etmek mümkündür.
