A series of Silicon Vertex Detectors (SVD 1) have been working in Belle since 1999. Their excellent performance has been essential to successful measurements of the CP asymmetry in the neutral B ...meson system. Further improvement is expected with the upgraded detector (SVD 2), which is close to completion and scheduled for installation in the summer of 2003.
Autoimmune thyroid disease is considered a multifactorial disorder in which autoimmunity against thyroid antigens is facilitated by exposure to endogenous and environmental factors. We present here a ...rare case of identical female twins who developed consecutively Graves' disease within a few months and had three HLA susceptibility alleles for the development of Graves' disease.
A 28-year-old woman was referred to our hospital complaining of thirst, sweating, palpitations, tremor and skin rash. Laboratory data showed hyperthyroidism with antibodies against the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor and ultrasonography of the thyroid revealed enlargement with hypervascularity. Her identical twin was referred to our hospital because of similar symptoms.
We diagnosed them with Graves' disease and both were treated with methimazole. Human leukocyte antigen genotyping showed that both twins possessed the DRB1*04:05, DQB1*04:01:01, DPB1*05:01 haplotype, which confers susceptibility to Graves' disease.
This case supports the hypothesis that interaction of multiple human leukocyte antigen susceptibility alleles as well as genetic background and environmental factors might synergistically contribute the close timing in Graves' disease onset.

We describe the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB electron–positron accelerator. SuperKEKB operates at the energy of the ϒ(4S) resonance where pairs of B mesons are produced in a coherent quantum ...mechanical state with no additional particles. Belle II, the first Super B factory detector, aims to achieve performance comparable to the original Belle and BaBar B factory experiments, which first measured the large CP violating effects in the B meson system, with much higher luminosity collisions and larger beam-induced backgrounds.
We report the first measurement of the charm-mixing parameter yCP in D0 decays to the CP-odd final state ... The study uses the full Belle e+e− annihilation data sample of 976 fb−1 taken at or near ...the ϒð4SÞ centre-of-mass energy. We find ..., where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic due to event selection and background, and the last is due to possible presence of CP-even decays in the data sample. (ProQuest: ... denotes formula omitted.)
In this paper, we describe the design and development of the central trigger system (GDL) for the BELLE detector at the KEK B-factory. The GDL consists of four types of single width 6U VME modules ...(ITD, FTD, PSNM and TMD) which are designed using the programmable logic techniques of Xilinx FPGA and CPLD. Individual and combined performance tests of these modules are done and it is confirmed that the GDL functions as expected.
We report the first observation of the radiative charm decay D^{0}→ρ^{0}γ and the first search for CP violation in decays D^{0}→ρ^{0}γ, ϕγ, and Kover ¯^{*0}(892)γ, using a data sample of 943 fb^{-1} ...collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The branching fraction is measured to be B(D^{0}→ρ^{0}γ)=(1.77±0.30±0.07)×10^{-5}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The obtained CP asymmetries A_{CP}(D^{0}→ρ^{0}γ)=+0.056±0.152±0.006, A_{CP}(D^{0}→ϕγ)=-0.094±0.066±0.001, and A_{CP}(D^{0}→Kover ¯^{*0}γ)=-0.003±0.020±0.000 are consistent with no CP violation. We also present an improved measurement of the branching fractions B(D^{0}→ϕγ)=(2.76±0.19±0.10)×10^{-5} and B(D^{0}→Kover ¯^{*0}γ)=(4.66±0.21±0.21)×10^{-4}.
We report the first measurement of CP-violation parameters in B{sup 0}{yields}{rho}{sup 0}{gamma} decays based on a data sample of 657x10{sup 6}BB pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB ...asymmetric-energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. We obtain the time-dependent and direct CP-violating parameters, S{sub {rho}{sup 0}}{sub {gamma}}=-0.83{+-}0.65(stat){+-}0.18(syst) and A{sub {rho}{sup 0}}{sub {gamma}}=-0.44{+-}0.49(stat){+-}0.14(syst), respectively.
We report the first measurement of time-dependent CP asymmetry in B(0)-->K(S)(0)rho(0)gamma decays based on 657 x 10(6) BB pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy ...collider. We measure the CP-violating parameter S_{K_{S};{0}rho;{0}gamma}=0.11+/-0.33(stat)-0.09+0.05(syst) from a signal of 212+/-17 events. We also obtain the effective direct CP-violating parameter A{eff}=0.05+/-0.18(stat)+/-0.06(syst) for mK(S)0pi+pi- <1.8 GeV/c(2) and 0.6 GeV/c(2)<m pi+pi- <0.9 GeV/c2.
We search for the radiative penguin decays B_{s}{0}-->varphigamma and B_{s}{0}-->gammagamma in a 23.6 fb{-1} data sample collected at the Upsilon(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB ...e{+}e{-} asymmetric-energy collider. We observe for the first time a radiative penguin decay of the B_{s}{0} meson in the B_{s}{0}-->varphigamma mode and we measure B(B_{s}{0}-->varphigamma)=(57_{-15}{+18}(stat)-11+12(syst))x10{-6}. No significant B_{s}{0}-->gammagamma signal is observed and we set a 90% confidence level upper limit of B(B_{s}{0}-->gammagamma)<8.7x10{-6}.
