This paper presents evidence that companies across three continental European countries (Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands) provide varying degrees of analyst recommended nonfinancial disclosures ...to the marketplace. This study is the first to examine the relationship of Jenkins Committee nonfinancial disclosure levels with the accuracy and dispersion of financial analysts' earnings forecasts. Seemingly unrelated regression tests show that larger companies and companies with a global focus voluntarily provide higher levels of both forward looking and historical nonfinancial disclosures. Additionally, higher levels of forward looking nonfinancial disclosures are associated with lower dispersion and higher accuracy in financial analysts' earnings forecasts. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
This paper presents evidence that companies across three continental European countries (Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands) provide varying degrees of analyst recommended nonfinancial disclosures ...to the marketplace.
In a 52-year-old man with general malaise, muscle stiffness and weakness, POEMS-syndrome was diagnosed based on polyneuropathy, splenomegaly, lymphadenopathy, subclinical hypothyroidism and the ...presence of a monoclonal paraprotein with osteosclerotic lesions and an indurated skin (POEMS is an acronym for Polyneuropathy, Organomegaly, Endocrinopathy, Monoclonal protein, Skin changes). This is a rare systemic disease from the clinical spectrum of plasma cell dyscrasias with polyneuropathy. The clinical picture is broader and more pleomorphic than the acronym suggests. The possibility of a POEMS syndrome should be considered in the differential diagnosis of polyneuropathy in association with monoclonal gammopathy. Quite often it is associated with osteosclerotic myeloma or mixed osteoscleroticlytic lesions. The patient described was treated with high dose corticosteroids which were gradually decreased over the next three months, upon which a marked improvement could be seen. The general malaise subsided, as did the splenomegaly, and the skin became supple again.
Eight hands amputated at wrist or distal forearm level were replanted between 1983 and 1990. Steinman pins were used to obtain skeletal fixation at the wrist level in three patients. Secondary ...surgery was performed in seven patients. Six of the patients were available for review between 1.5 and 7.5 years (mean 3.6) after the injury. The functional results were assessed using the Tamai scoring system. Recovery of useful hand function has been achieved in most patients, although long-term recovery of sensibility was found to be disappointing. Despite this finding, five out of the six patients were highly satisfied with the result and four have returned to work.
