Measurements of the cross section for producing b quarks in the reaction pp→bbover ¯X are reported in 7 and 13 TeV collisions at the LHC as a function of the pseudorapidity η in the range 2<η<5 ...covered by the acceptance of the LHCb experiment. The measurements are done using semileptonic decays of b-flavored hadrons decaying into a ground-state charmed hadron in association with a muon. The cross sections in the covered η range are 72.0±0.3±6.8 and 154.3±1.5±14.3 μb for 7 and 13 TeV. The ratio is 2.14±0.02±0.13, where the quoted uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The agreement with theoretical expectation is good at 7 TeV, but differs somewhat at 13 TeV. The measured ratio of cross sections is larger at lower η than the model prediction.
Cocaine dependence is a disorder for which no pharmacological treatment of proven efficacy exists, advances in the neurobiology could guide future medication development.
To investigate the efficacy ...and acceptability of antidepressants alone or in combination with any psychosocial intervention for the treatment of cocaine dependence and problematic cocaine use.
We searched the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), PubMed, EMBASE and CINAHL in July 2011 and researchers for unpublished trials.
Randomised clinical trials comparing antidepressants alone or associated with psychosocial intervention with placebo, no treatment, other pharmacological or psychosocial interventions.
Two authors independently assessed trial quality and extracted data.
37 studies were included in the review (3551 participants).Antidepressants versus placebo: results for dropouts did not show evidence of difference, 31 studies, 2819 participants, RR 1.03 (Cl 95% 0.93 to 1.14). Looking at Abstinence from cocaine use, even though not statistically significant, the difference shown by the analysis in the three-weeks abstinence rate was in favour of antidepressants (eight studies, 942 participants, RR 1.22 (Cl 95% 0.99 to 1.51)). Considering only studies involving tricyclics, five studies, 367 participants, or only desipramine, four studies, 254 participants, the evidence was in favour of antidepressants. However, selecting only studies with operationally defined diagnostic criteria, statistical significance favouring antidepressants, as well as the trend for significance shown by the full sample, disappeared. Looking at safety issues, the results did not show evidence of differences (number of patients withdrawn for medical reasons, thirteen studies, 1396 participants, RR 1.39 (Cl 95% 0.91 to 2.12)). Subgroup analysis considering length of the trial, associated opioid dependence or associated psychosocial interventions as confounding factors, failed in showing consistent and statistically significant differences in favour of antidepressants.Antidepressants versus other drugs: Comparing antidepressants with dopamine agonists or with anticonvulsants, no evidence of differences was shown on dropouts and on other outcomes (abstinence from cocaine use, adverse events).
At the current stage of evidence data do not support the efficacy of antidepressants in the treatment of cocaine abuse/dependence. Partially positive results obtained on secondary outcome measures, such as depression severity, do not seem to be associated with an effect on direct indicators of cocaine abuse/dependence. Antidepressants cannot be considered a mainstay of treatment for unselected cocaine abusers/dependents.
Branching fraction and effective lifetime measurements of the rare decay B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-} and searches for the decays B^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-} and B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-}γ are reported using proton-proton ...collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. The branching fraction B(B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-})=(3.09_{-0.43-0.11}^{+0.46+0.15})×10^{-9} and the effective lifetime τ(B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-})=2.07±0.29±0.03 ps are measured, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. No significant signal for B^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-} and B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-}γ decays is found and upper limits B(B^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-})<2.6×10^{-10} and B(B_{s}^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-}γ)<2.0×10^{-9} at the 95% C.L. are determined, where the latter is limited to the range m_{μμ}>4.9 GeV/c^{2}. The results are in agreement with the standard model expectations.
A measurement of mixing and C P violation in neutral charm mesons is performed using data reconstructed in proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding ...to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. A total of 30.6 million D0 → K0S π+ π− decays are analyzed using a method optimized for the measurement of the mass difference between neutral charm-meson eigenstates. Allowing for CP violation in mixing and in the interference between mixing and decay, the mass and decay-width differences are measured to be xCP = 3.97 ± 0.46 ( stat ) ± 0.29 (syst) × 10−3 and yCP = 4.59 ± 1.20 (stat) ± 0.85 (syst) × 10-3, respectively. The C P -violating parameters are measured as Δx = −0.27 ± 0.18 (stat) ± 0.01 (syst) × 10−3 and Δy = 0.20 ± 0.36 (stat) ± 0.13 (syst ) × 10−3. This is the first observation of a nonzero mass difference in the D0 meson system, with a significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The data are consistent with C P symmetry and improve existing constraints on the associated parameters.
The TIMESPOT project aims at the construction of a mini-tracker demonstrator implementing both high space and time resolutions at the single pixel level. The pixels have a pitch of 55 × 55 μm2. ...Specified time resolution is equal or better than 50 ps. Developed sensors are based both on 3D silicon and diamond technologies, whose layout and fabrication process have been suitably optimized for best time resolution. Read-out pixel electronics is being developed in 28-nm CMOS technology. The first batch of 3D silicon sensors, containing several test structures based on different geometries of the electrodes, has been delivered in June 2019 and has been tested against its timing performance both under laser and minimum ionizing particle beams. In the present paper, the output of these starting measurements is presented. The sensors show very good timing performance, having σ¡30 ps (sigma), although operated with non-optimized front-end electronics and in noisy environment. These results represent an important step forward in the development of pixels with timing operating at extremely high interaction rates and fluences, as required in the next generation of upgraded colliders.
•A crucial challenge about future vertex detectors consists in realizing pixel with timing capabilities.•In this respect, we need sensors and electronics having at the same time the following requirements: space resolutions of O(10 μm), time resolutions below 50 ps, radiation resistance ¿ 1016 1 MeV neutron equivalent per cm2.•We have developed and fabricated dedicated fast silicon sensors in 3D technology with a pitch of 55 μm.•They have been proved to have time resolutions below 30 ps.
Multimorbidity and polypharmacy are emerging health priorities and the care of persons with these conditions is complex and challenging. The aim of the present guidelines is to develop ...recommendations for the clinical management of persons with multimorbidity and/or polypharmacy and to provide evidence-based guidance to improve their quality of care. The recommendations have been produced in keeping with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE). Overall, 14 recommendations were issued, focusing on 4 thematic areas: (1.) General Principles; (2.) target population for an individualized approach to care; (3.) individualized care of patients with multimorbidity and/or polypharmacy; (4.) models of care. These recommendations support the provision of individualized care to persons with multimorbidity and/or polypharmacy as well as the prioritization of care through the identification of persons at increased risk of negative health outcomes. Given the limited available evidence, recommendations could not be issued for all the questions defined and, therefore, some aspects related to the complex care of patients with multimorbidity and/or polypharmacy could not be covered in these guidelines. This points to the need for more research in this field and evidence to improve the care of this population.
The first measurement of heavy-flavor production by the LHCb experiment in its fixed-target mode is presented. The production of J/ψ and D^{0} mesons is studied with beams of protons of different ...energies colliding with gaseous targets of helium and argon with nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energies of sqrts_{NN}=86.6 and 110.4 GeV, respectively. The J/ψ and D^{0} production cross sections in pHe collisions in the rapidity range 2, 4.6 are found to be σ_{J/ψ}=652±33(stat)±42(syst) nb/nucleon and σ_{D^{0}}=80.8±2.4(stat)±6.3(syst) μb/nucleon, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. No evidence for a substantial intrinsic charm content of the nucleon is observed in the large Bjorken-x region.
The doubly charmed baryon decay Ξ_{cc}^{++}→Ξ_{c}^{+}π^{+} is observed for the first time, with a statistical significance of 5.9σ, confirming a recent observation of the baryon in the ...Λ_{c}^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{+} final state. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb^{-1}, collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The Ξ_{cc}^{++} mass is measured to be 3620.6±1.5(stat)±0.4(syst)±0.3(Ξ_{c}^{+}) MeV/c^{2} and is consistent with the previous result. The ratio of branching fractions between the decay modes is measured to be B(Ξ_{cc}^{++}→Ξ_{c}^{+}π^{+})×B(Ξ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+})/B(Ξ_{cc}^{++}→Λ_{c}^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{+})×B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+})=0.035±0.009(stat)±0.003(syst).
The ratios of branching fractions $R(D*)$ ≡ $B(\overline{B} → D*τ^-\overline{ν}_μ$)/$B$($\overline{B}$ → $D*μ^-\overline{ν}_μ$) and $R$($D$0) ≡ $B$($B$- → $D^0τ^-\overline{v}_τ$)/$B$($B$- → ...$D^0μ^-\overline{v}_μ$) are measured, assuming isospin symmetry, using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb-1 of integrated luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The tau lepton is identified in the decay mode $τ^-$ → $μ^-ν_τ\overline{ν}_μ$. The measured values are $R$($D$*) = 0.281 ± 0.018 ± 0.024 and $R$($D$0) = 0.441 ± 0.060 ± 0.066, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The correlation between these measurements is $ρ$ = -0.43. The results are consistent with the current average of these quantities and are at a combined 1.9 standard deviations from the predictions based on lepton flavor universality in the standard model.
The first amplitude analysis of the B^{±}→π^{±}K^{+}K^{-} decay is reported based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb^{-1} of pp collisions recorded in 2011 and 2012 ...with the LHCb detector. The data are found to be best described by a coherent sum of five resonant structures plus a nonresonant component and a contribution from ππ↔KK S-wave rescattering. The dominant contributions in the π^{±} K^{∓} and K^{+} K^{-} systems are the nonresonant and the B^{±}→ρ(1450)^{0}π^{±} amplitudes, respectively, with fit fractions around 30%. For the rescattering contribution, a sizable fit fraction is observed. This component has the largest CP asymmetry reported to date for a single amplitude of (-66±4±2)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. No significant CP violation is observed in the other contributions.
