In the framework of the model with fusion of quark–gluon strings on the transverse lattice, we find the asymptotic behavior of the correlation coefficients between observables in separated rapidity ...intervals with a high string density in a realistic case with an inhomogeneous distribution of strings in the impact parameter plane. We calculate the asymptotic forms for three types of correlations: between the average transverse momenta of particles with rapidity in these intervals, between the average transverse momentum of particles in one rapidity interval and the multiplicity of particles in another, and also between the multiplicities of charged particles in these intervals. We show that the previously found independence of the asymptotic form of the correlation coefficient between the average transverse momenta from the variance in the number of particles produced in string fragmentation holds only in the case of a uniform distribution of strings in the transverse plane. We also show that the found general expressions for the long-range correlation coefficients in the particular case with a uniform distribution of strings in the transverse plane become the formulas previously obtained by another method applicable only in this simple case.
For high-energy pp scattering described in the framework of a model taking the merger of quark–gluon strings and the formation of string clusters into account, we calculate the strongly intensive ...variable
characterizing correlations between the numbers of particles formed in two rapidity-separated observation intervals. We compare results of the calculations with experimental data of the ALICE collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider. We show that the experimentally observed increase in this variable with increasing initial energy can be explained only if the formation of string clusters consisting of the increasing number of merged strings is taken into account.
The properties of the strongly intensive variable characterizing correlations between the number of particles in two separated rapidity interval in pp interactions at LHC energies are studied in the ...framework of the string fusion model. We perform the MC simulations of string distributions in the impact parameter plane to take into account the experimental conditions of pp collisions. We account the string fusion processes, leading to the formation of string clusters, embedding a finite lattice (a grid) in the impact parameter plane. As a result, we found the dependence of this variable both on the distance between the centers of the observation windows and their acceptance for the minbias pp collisions at several initial energies. Analyzing these dependencies we can extract the important information on the properties of string clusters. We show that in pp collisions at LHC energies the string fusion effects have a significant impact on the behavior of this strongly intensive variable. The role of these effects is increasing with the initial energy and centrality of collisions. In particular, we found that the increase of this variable with initial energy takes place due to the growth of the portion of the fused string clusters in string configurations arising in pp interactions.
We demonstrate that the investigations of the forward-backward correlations between intensive observables enable to obtain more clear signal about the initial stage of hadronic interaction, e.g. ...about the process of string fusion, compared to usual forward-backward multiplicity correlations. As an example, the correlation between mean-event transverse momenta of charged particles in separated rapidity intervals is considered. We performed calculations in the framework of dipole-based Monte Carlo string fusion model. We obtained the dependence of the correlation strength on the collision centrality for different initial energies and colliding systems. It is shown that the dependence reveals the decline of the correlation coefficient for most central Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energy. We compare the results both with the ones obtained in alternative models and with the ones obtained by us using various MC generators.
The study of open charm meson production provides an efficient tool for the investigation of the properties of hot and dense matter formed in nucleus–nucleus collisions. The interpretation of the ...existing di-muon data from the CERN SPS suffers from a lack of knowledge on the mechanism and properties of the open charm particle production. Due to this, the heavy-ion programme of the NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN SPS has been extended by precise measurements of charm hadrons with short lifetimes. A new Vertex Detector for measurements of the rare processes of open charm production in nucleus–nucleus collisions was designed to meet the challenges of track registration and high resolution in primary and secondary vertex reconstruction. A small-acceptance version of the vertex detector was installed in 2016 and tested with Pb + Pb collisions at 150

The results on multiplicity and transverse momentum fluctuations significantly deviate from expectations for the independent particle production. They also depend on charges of selected hadrons. do not describe the data. The scaled variance of multiplicity fluctuations is significantly higher in inelastic p+p interactions than in central Pb+Pb collisions measured by NA49 at the same energy per nucleon. This is in qualitative disagreement with the predictions of the Wounded Nucleon Model. Within the statistical framework the enhanced multiplicity fluctuations in inelastic p+p interactions can be interpreted as due to event-by-event fluctuations of the fireball energy and/or volume.
In the framework of the quark–gluon string fusion model on the transverse lattice, we study a strongly intensive variable characterizing correlations between the number of particles produced in ...hadronic interactions in two observation windows separated by a rapidity interval. We show that in the case of independent identical strings, this variable is indeed strongly intensive. It depends only on string characteristics and is independent of trivial so-called volume fluctuations in the string number resulting, in particular, from inevitable impact parameter fluctuations. With string fusion effects causing the production of string clusters with new properties taken into account, this variable turns out to be equal to the weighted average of its values for different string clusters. The weighting coefficients depend on the collision conditions, and the variable loses its strongly intensive character. In the framework of this model in a realistic case with a nonuniform string distribution in the transverse plane, we find explicit analytic formulas for the asymptotic coefficients of long-range correlations between different quantities including an intensive one, the average transverse momentum. We analyze the properties of the obtained correlation coefficients, the studied strongly intensive variable, and also the possibilities of its experimental observation.

. The dependence of second-order scaled factorial moments of ...proton multiplicity distribution on the number of subdivisions of transverse momentum space is measured. The intermittency analysis is performed using both transverse momentum and cumulative transverse momentum. For the first time, statistically independent data sets are used for each subdivision number. The obtained results do not indicate any statistically significant intermittency pattern. An upper limit on the fraction of correlated proton pairs and the power of the correlation function is obtained based on a comparison with the Power-law Model developed for this purpose.
This paper presents measurements of production cross sections and inelastic cross sections for the following reactions: 60 GeV/c protons with C, Be, Al targets and 120 GeV/c protons with C and Be ...targets. The analysis is performed using the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. First measurements are obtained using protons at 120 GeV/c, while the results for protons at 60 GeV/c are compared with previously published measurements. These interaction cross section measurements are critical inputs for neutrino flux prediction in current and future accelerator-based long-baseline neutrino experiments.
