In this paper, we analyze the influence of the delegation of downstream firms that produce different quality of products on the profits, consumer surplus and social welfare in a vertically related ...market. We find that whether it is price or quantity competition, the delegation can enable the downstream firms to grab the profits from their input suppliers. A downstream firm that produces a high-quality product earns more from suppliers than that producing a low-quality product; however, the delegation of downstream firms brings about the reduction of consumer surplus and social welfare. Further analysis has revealed that delegation adopted by downstream firms reverses their profit comparisons under different competitive modes; that is, the downstream firms produce higher profits under quantity competition without delegation while possessing higher profits under price competition with delegation.

Recent studies have found that the core-shell structured metal nanoparticles and porous carbon nanofibers (PCNF) are combined into a microwave absorbing material through electrospinning, which ...exhibits excellent microwave absorption performance. In this study, the core-shell structure Co nanoparticles prepared by the self-developed HEIBE process (production rate of > 50 g/h) were combined with porous carbon fibers, and their absorbing properties were greatly improved. The morphology of Co/PCNF demonstrated that CoNPs are randomly dispersed in the porous carbon nanofibers and carbon nanofiber form complex conductive network which enhances the dielectric loss of the materials. Meanwhile, the Co/PCNF has a low graphitization and shows a significant improvement in permittivity due to the combination of CoNPs and high conductivity of carbon material. The maximum reflection loss (RL) of Co/PCNF reaches - 63.69 dB at 5.28 GHz with a thickness of 5.21 mm and the absorption bandwidth (RL ≤ - 10.0 dB) is 12.92 GHz. In terms of 5.60 mm and 6.61 mm absorber, there are two absorption peaks of - 47.64 dB and - 48.30 dB appear around 12.50 GHz and 14.10 GHz, respectively. The results presented in this paper may pave a way for promising applications of lightweight and high-efficiency microwave absorbing materials (MAMs).
Aims. Cosmological surveys in the far-infrared are known to suffer from confusion. The Bayesian de-blending tool, XID+, currently provides one of the best ways to de-confuse deep Herschel SPIRE ...images, using a flat flux density prior. This work is to demonstrate that existing multi-wavelength data sets can be exploited to improve XID+ by providing an informed prior, resulting in more accurate and precise extracted flux densities. Methods. Photometric data for galaxies in the COSMOS field were used to constrain spectral energy distributions (SEDs) using the fitting tool CIGALE. These SEDs were used to create Gaussian prior estimates in the SPIRE bands for XID+. The multi-wavelength photometry and the extracted SPIRE flux densities were run through CIGALE again to allow us to compare the performance of the two priors. Inferred ALMA flux densities (FinferALMA), at 870 μm and 1250 μm, from the best fitting SEDs from the second CIGALE run were compared with measured ALMA flux densities (FmeasALMA) as an independent performance validation. Similar validations were conducted with the SED modelling and fitting tool MAGPHYS and modified black-body functions to test for model dependency. Results. We demonstrate a clear improvement in agreement between the flux densities extracted with XID+ and existing data at other wavelengths when using the new informed Gaussian prior over the original uninformed prior. The residuals between FmeasALMA and FinferALMA were calculated. For the Gaussian priors these residuals, expressed as a multiple of the ALMA error (σ), have a smaller standard deviation, 7.95σ for the Gaussian prior compared to 12.21σ for the flat prior; reduced mean, 1.83σ compared to 3.44σ; and have reduced skew to positive values, 7.97 compared to 11.50. These results were determined to not be significantly model dependent. This results in statistically more reliable SPIRE flux densities and hence statistically more reliable infrared luminosity estimates.
Insulin‐like peptides (ILPs) including insulin, insulin‐like growth factor (IGF) and relaxin are evolutionarily conserved hormones in metazoans, and they are involved in diverse physiological ...processes. The migratory brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens, encodes four ILP genes (Nlilp1, Nlilp2, Nlilp3 and Nlilp4) but their physiological roles are largely unknown. Sequence analysis showed that NlILP1 contained a relaxin‐specific G protein‐coupled receptor‐binding motif and a variant motif of cysteine residues, and NlILP2 and NlILP4 resembled vertebrate IGFs. RNA interference (RNAi)‐mediated gene silencing showed that depletion of each of Nlilp1, 2 and 3 significantly delayed the developmental duration of nymphs, and this effect could be exacerbated by double or triple gene depletion. Depletion of Nlilp1, Nlilp2 or Nlilp3 induces the accumulation of glucose, trehalose and glycogen, which is contradictory to depletion of the insulin receptor (NlInR1) in the BPH. Depletion of Nlilp1 significantly enhanced starvation resistance in both females and males although its extent was smaller than NlInR1 depletion. A parental RNAi assay showed that depletion of each of Nlilp1–4 dramatically impaired female fecundity. These findings indicate that NlILP1–4 have redundant and distinct roles in physiological processes in the BPH, thereby enhancing our understanding of the contribution of each NlILP to the ecological success of this species in natural habitats.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) regulate mRNA stability and protein expression, and certain miRNAs have been demonstrated to act either as oncogenes or tumor suppressors. Differential miRNA expression signatures ...have been documented in many human cancers but the role of miRNAs in endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC) remains poorly understood. This study identifies significantly dysregulated miRNAs of EEC cells, and characterizes their impact on the malignant phenotype. We studied the expression of 365 human miRNAs using Taqman low density arrays in EECs and normal endometriums. Candidate differentially expressed miRNAs were validated by quantitative real‐time PCR. Expression of highly dysregulated miRNAs was examined in vitro through the effect of anti‐/pre‐miRNA transfection on the malignant phenotype. We identified 16 significantly dysregulated miRNAs in EEC and 7 of these are novel findings with respect to EEC. Antagonizing the function of miR‐7, miR‐194 and miR‐449b, or overexpressing miR‐204, repressed migration, invasion and extracellular matrix‐adhesion in HEC1A endometrial cancer cells. FOXC1 was determined as a target gene of miR‐204, and two binding sites in the 3′‐untranslated region were validated by dual luciferase reporter assay. FOXC1 expression was inversely related to miR‐204 expression in EEC. Functional analysis revealed the involvement of FOXC1 in migration and invasion of HEC1A cells. Our results present dysfunctional miRNAs in endometrial cancer and identify a crucial role for miR‐204‐FOXC1 interaction in endometrial cancer progression. This miRNA signature offers a potential biomarker for predicting EEC outcomes, and targeting of these cancer progression‐ and metastasis‐related miRNAs offers a novel potential therapeutic strategy for the disease.
We investigate the collusive incentive for far-sighted manufacturers selling via managerial retailers. In contrast to the existing literature, we find that revenue delegation can impede upstream ...collusion in Bertrand models. This happens due to market exit in the deviation phase when products are close substitutes. The result of managerial delegation hindering upstream collusion is robust if we allow manufacturers to consider partial collusion. Furthermore, we show that less intensified downstream competition does not always harm consumers. If upstream collusion is less sustainable with managerial retailers, consumers can be better-off.
Chronic hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection remains a significant global health problem. Evidence‐based guidelines are needed to help providers determine when treatment should be initiated, which ...medication is most appropriate, and when treatment can safely be stopped. The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases HBV guideline methodology and writing committees developed a protocol a priori for this systematic review. We searched multiple databases for randomized controlled trials and controlled observational studies that enrolled adults ≥18 years old diagnosed with chronic HBV infection who received antiviral therapy. Data extraction was done by pairs of independent reviewers. We included 73 studies, of which 59 (15 randomized controlled trials and 44 observational studies) reported clinical outcomes. Moderate‐quality evidence supported the effectiveness of antiviral therapy in patients with immune active chronic HBV infection in reducing the risk of cirrhosis, decompensated liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma. In immune tolerant patients, moderate‐quality evidence supports improved intermediate outcomes with antiviral therapy. Only very low‐quality evidence informed the questions about discontinuing versus continuing antiviral therapy in hepatitis B e antigen‐positive patients who seroconverted from hepatitis B e antigen to hepatitis B e antibody and about the safety of entecavir versus tenofovir. Noncomparative and indirect evidence was available for questions about stopping versus continuing antiviral therapy in hepatitis B e antigen‐negative patients, monotherapy versus adding a second agent in patients with persistent viremia during treatment, and the effectiveness of antivirals in compensated cirrhosis with low‐level viremia. Conclusion: Most of the current literature focuses on the immune active phases of chronic HBV infection; decision‐making in other commonly encountered and challenging clinical settings depends on indirect evidence. Perinatal or mother‐to‐child transmission (MTCT) of hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains the major risk factor for chronic HBV infection worldwide. In addition to hepatitis B immune globulin and ...vaccination, oral antiviral therapies in highly viremic mothers can further decrease MTCT of HBV. We conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis to synthesize the evidence on the efficacy and maternal and fetal safety of antiviral therapy during pregnancy. A protocol was developed by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases guideline writing committee. We searched multiple databases for controlled studies that enrolled pregnant women with chronic HBV infection treated with antiviral therapy. Outcomes of interest were reduction of MTCT and adverse outcomes to mothers and newborns. Study selection and data extraction were done by pairs of independent reviewers. We included 26 studies that enrolled 3622 pregnant women. Antiviral therapy reduced MTCT, as defined by infant hepatitis B surface antigen seropositivity (risk ratio = 0.3, 95% confidence interval 0.2‐0.4) or infant HBV DNA seropositivity (risk ratio = 0.3, 95% confidence interval 0.2‐0.5) at 6‐12 months. No significant differences were found in the congenital malformation rate, prematurity rate, and Apgar scores. Compared to control, lamivudine or telbivudine improved maternal HBV DNA suppression at delivery and during 4‐8 weeks' postpartum follow‐up. Tenofovir showed improvement in HBV DNA suppression at delivery. No significant differences were found in postpartum hemorrhage, cesarean section, and elevated creatinine kinase rates. Conclusions: Antiviral therapy improves HBV suppression and reduces MTCT in women with chronic HBV infection with high viral load compared to the use of hepatitis B immunoglobulin and vaccination alone; the use of telbivudine, lamivudine, and tenofovir appears to be safe in pregnancy with no increased adverse maternal or fetal outcome. The XRD, SEM and EDX methods were used to investigate the structural properties and the composition of fabricated materials. Furthermore, the electrical properties of SOFCs with catalytic layers deposited on the Ni-YSZ anode were examined by a current density-time and current density-voltage dependence measurements in hydrogen (24 h) and biogas (90 h). Composition of the outlet gasses was in situ analysed by the FTIR-based unit.
It has been found out that Ce0.9Sm0.1O2-δ and Ce0.8Pr0.05Sm0.15O2-δ catalytic layers show the highest stability over time and thus are the most attractive candidates as catalytic materials, in comparison with other investigated lanthanide-doped ceria, enhancing direct internal reforming of biogas in SOFCs.

Aldosterone/renin ratio (ARR) is currently regarded as the most reliable and available screening test for primary aldosteronism (PA), however, the falling accuracy of ARR with increasing age has ...posed crucial challenge for PA screening among older-aged population. To clarify potential effects of age on screening for PA, 216 subjects with PA and 657 subjects with non-PA were recruited and subdivided into four age groups (⩽39, 40-49, 50-59 and ⩾60 years) and their biochemical parameters were compared. As expected, plasma renin activity (PRA) lowered more than plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and led to gradually elevated ARR with increasing age in the non-PA group (P<0.001), whereas this phenomenon was unconspicuous in the PA group. The best cut-off values of ARR for PA screening were elevated in subjects ⩾50 years, whereas the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs), sensitivity, specificity and Youden's index (YI) of ARR were declined with increasing age, especially in patients ⩾60 years (AUC=0.863, sensitivity=95.2%, specificity=69.0%, YI=0.643). The AUCs of PAC increased with increasing age and even slightly surpassed that of ARR in patients ⩾60 years (AUCPAC=0.884). Our data suggest that the criteria of ARR for PA screening in patients ⩾50 years may need setting higher; the falling accuracy of ARR with increasing age, especially in patients ⩾60 years, could be improved by taking into account the absolute value of the PAC when applicable by the center.
