TiN films on mild steel were deposited by reactive d.c. magnetron sputtering: electroplated chromium was incorporated as an interlayer. Surface hardness, measured by the Knoop indentation method ...under a load of 25 gf, phase analysis by the X-ray diffraction method and corrosion behaviour by the potentiodynamic measurement technique of these coatings have been evaluated. Surface hardness values were found to increase from about 1000-1100 for TiN coatings on mild steel to about 1800-1900 (HK
25
) for TiN coatings with chromium as interlayer. Potentiodynamic corrosion tests, performed in IN H
2
SO
4
solutions, have shown that with a chromium interlayer the corrosion resistance increases significantly as compared to TiN only sputtered coatings on mild steel samples. No spoiling of TiN coatings was observed during full sweep voltage of -1000 mV to +1000 mV when they were tested with a chromium interlayer.
The paper highlights the use of electrical detonators for magnetic flux compression generator applications which requires synchronisation of two events with precise time delay of tens of ms and ...jitter within a few ms. These requirements are generally achieved by exploding bridge wire type detonators which are difficult to develop and are not commercially available. A technique has been developed using commercially available electrical detonator no. 33 to synchronise between peak of seed current in stator coil and detonation of explosive charge in armature. In present experiments, electrical signal generated by self-shorting pin due to bursting of electrical detonator has been used to trigger the capacitor discharge and the detonating cord of known length has been used to incorporate predetermined delay to synchronise the events. It has been demonstrated that using electrical detonator and known length of detonating cord, the two events can be synchronised with predetermined delay between 31 and 251 ms with variation of ± 0.5ms. The technique developed is suitable for defence applications like generation of high power microwaves using explosive driven magnetic flux compression generators. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT

The fault analysis in electrical power system has become more critical problem in the present days, because of the incorporation of renewable energy sources with existing system. The Machine Learning ...is the latest technique which is taking attention for various power system applications. The study presents a Semi-Supervised Learning algorithm for the protection of transmission line. The semi-supervised learning method can handle both the labeled and unlabeled data effectively. An advanced approach K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) model is introduced to detect and categorize the transmission line faults. The fault current values are measured at bus B1 and used as inputs to the KNN classifier to perform the detection and classification. In this work, by calculating distance between each labeled sample and the new or untagged sample, the fault class is determined corresponding to the k th minimum distance labeled points. The detailed methodology has been implemented in MATLAB environment. All possible fault situations with different fault resistances at different fault locations are simulated. It has been noticed that the present approach can effectively detects and classify the transmission line faults with the accuracy of 97 percent.
A hospital based, group matched case control study was conducted with the objective to assess the association between tobacco consumption practices and risk of development of oro-pharyngeal cancer in ...Central India. The study included 123 cases of oro-pharyngeal cancer, diagnosed on the basis of histopathology at three tertiary care centers in Nagpur city. Each case was matched for age and sex with two hospital controls: one selected from non-cancer patients and another from patients having cancer of other sites. Tobacco chewing (OR=7.98, 95% CI 4.11-13.58) and tobacco smoking (OR=2.25, 95% CI 1.22-3.70) were found to be significantly associated with oro-pharyngeal cancer on unconditional multiple logistic regression analysis. Further analysis revealed a dose-response relationship between increasing frequency, duration and retention time of tobacco in mouth and risk of oro-pharyngeal cancer. Other risk factors which were also found to contribute significantly in the outcome of oro-pharyngeal cancer in the study population were: use of traditional/local substances (eg pan, betel nut, lime) with or without tobacco, use of tobacco containing material for teeth cleaning, type of smoking (eg bidi, chillum, cigarette) and outdoor occupations. High values of estimates of attributable risk percent (ARP) and population attributable risk percent (PARP) confirmed the positive impact of reduction or elimination of the tobacco consumption practices on reducing the risk of oro-pharyngeal cancer in the population of Central India.
