We have determined {ital m}{sub {ital W}}=79.91{plus minus}0.39 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2} from an analysis of {ital W}{r arrow}{ital e}{nu} and {ital W}{r arrow}{mu}{nu} data from the Collider Detector at ...Fermilab in {ital {bar p}p} collisions at a c.m. energy of {radical}{ital s} =1.8 TeV. This result, together with the world-average {ital Z} mass, determines the weak mixing angle to be sin{sup 2}{theta}{sub {ital W}}=0.232{plus minus}0.008. Bounds on the top-quark mass are discussed.
The purpose of this project is to develop a digital hadron calorimeter (DHCAL) using resistive plate chambers (RPCs) as active medium. RPCs are ideally suited for such a calorimeter: they are simple ...in design, cheap to build, reliable and robust, and the readout can be segmented into small pads of say 1 cm/sup 2/, as required for a DHCAL at the linear collider. Work on developing these chambers has been underway at Argonne for about two years. Several single-gap and multi-gap chambers operating in avalanche mode have been built and have been tested thoroughly with sources and cosmic rays. Tests with up to 64 pads of 1 cm/sup 2/ each are ongoing. Furthermore, considerable effort is dedicated to the development of the readout system, a challenge by itself given the large number of channels, of order 400K for the prototype and 50/spl times/106 for the entire DHCAL.

For the 1994 Tevatron collider run, CDF has upgraded the electron and photon trigger hardware to make use of shower maximum information from the central shower maximum detector. For electrons, the ...upgrade has resulted in a 50% reduction in backgrounds while retaining approximately 90% of the signal. The new trigger also eliminates the background to photon triggers from single-phototube discharge.

We have studied the production of B hadrons in 1.8-TeV p collisions. We present measurements of the fragmentation fractions, f(u), f(d), f(s), and f(baryon), of produced b quarks that yield B+, B0, ...B(0)(s), and Lambda;(0)(b) hadrons. Reconstruction of five electron-charm final states yields f(s)/( f(u)+f(d)) = 0.213+/-0.068 and f(baryon)/( f(u)+f(d)) = 0.118+/-0.042, assuming f(u) = f(d). If all B hadrons produced in p collisions cascade to one of these four hadrons, we determine f(u) = f(d) = 0.375+/-0.023, f(s) = 0.160+/-0.044, and f(baryon) = 0.090+/-0.029. If we do not assume f(u) = f(d), we find f(d)/f(u) = 0.84+/-0.16.
