This paper proposes a new driving style recognition approach that allows autonomous vehicles (AVs) to perform trajectory predictions for surrounding vehicles with minimal data. Toward that end, we ...use a hybrid of offline and online methods in the proposed approach. We first learn typical driving styles with PCA and K-means algorithms in the offline part. After that, local Maximum-Likelihood techniques are used to perform online driving style recognition. We benchmarked our method on a real driving dataset against other methods in terms of the RMSE value of the predicted trajectory and the observed trajectory over a 5s duration. The proposed approach can reduce trajectory prediction error by up to 37.7\% compared to using the parameters from other literature and up to 24.4\% compared to not performing driving style recognition.
The incidence of Mycobacterium marinum infection has been increasing. First-line antituberculous drugs and other common antibiotics are effective for most cutaneous M. marinum infections; however, ...treatment failure still occurs in some rare cases. We report a case of a 70-year-old man with refractory cutaneous infection caused by M. marinum. Reasons for delayed diagnosis and related factors of the refractory infection are also discussed.
Samples of lesional skin were inoculated on Löwenstein-Jensen medium for acid-fast bacilli. Species of mycobacterium were identified by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis. We then carried out genotyping by using mycobacterial interspersed repetitive units and sequencing of heat shock protein 65 (hsp65) and 16S rDNA genes.
Tissue cultures for acid-fast bacilli were positive. PCR-RFLP analysis and sequencing of hsp65 and 16S rDNA genes confirmed the isolated organisms to be M. marinum. Systemic therapy with rifampicin, clarithromycin, and amikacin empirically over 6 months led to complete resolution of skin lesions leaving only some residual scars.
Key diagnostic elements for M. marinum infections include a high index of suspicion raised by chronic lesions, poor response to conventional treatments, and a history of fish-related exposure. Strong clinical suggestion of M. marinum infection warrants initial empirical treatment. The duration of therapy is usually several months or even longer, especially for elderly patients. Amikacin can be considered in multidrug therapy for treatment of some refractory M. marinum infections.
Batching plays an important role in performance evaluation of practical manufacturing systems. In practice, two main types of batching are commonly seen: transfer batches and process batches, where ...process batches can be further classified as serial batches and parallel batches. To model the batching behavior correctly, a comprehensive classification of batching is proposed. Eight types of batching behavior are classified and corresponding queueing models are given.
Crotaline snakebites (Protobothrops mucrosquamatus and Trimeresurus stejnegeri) are a common medical emergency in Taiwan that can be effectively treated by a bivalent F(ab)2 antivenom. We ...investigated the differences in the clinical outcomes of patients who received different therapeutic regimens of antivenom in a medical center where clinical toxicologists followed the poison control center (PCC) guidelines (medical group) and surgeons did not (surgical group). The medical records of inpatients with crotaline snakebites between 1991 and 2005 were reviewed and information on demographics, treatments, adverse effects of antivenom, and complications was abstracted and analyzed. A total of 179 patients (90 medical, 89 surgical) were eligible for study. There was no significant intergroup difference in baseline characteristics except that the dose of antivenom and the probability of antibiotic use were both higher in the surgical group (5.9 +/- 4.2 vials vs. 2.7 +/- 1.6 vials; 93% vs. 60%). Multiple logistic regression adjusting for age, gender, calendar year of envenomation, severity of envenomation, and antibiotic use did not disclose evidence of any difference in various clinical outcomes between medical and surgical patients. The lower dose of antivenom recommended by the PCC may be as effective and safe as the higher dose used in the surgical group for the treatment of crotaline snakebites.
For solving the single point of failure (SPOF) about the bus controller (BC) in 1553B bus system, the intelligent fault-tolerant protocol (IFTP) layer over legacy 1553B bus was designed. Through ...maintaining the only BC node dynamically, the system can tolerate times of SPOF. What's more, it makes the new BC node to be the most reliable one in the remaining living nodes through evolving reliability form. At last, the protocol was implemented and validated on the satellite-based high-performance 4-computer parallel system.
In order to avoid the influence on the founding of DEM, noise elimination is an important step for data processing after acquisition. Based on Least Squares theory, reference plane and partial planes ...are fitted separately. By comparing the relative position of each other, obvious noises are eliminated. Then, second filtering is carried out based on the distance from scattered data points to fitting plane. To prove the feasibility of noise elimination algorithms, experiments are taken, and the outcome indicates that the method is appropriate for gently area, and effect is remarkable.
This paper demonstrates an optical network approach to non-Turing optical computer to solve NP-complete problems. A proof-of-principle demonstration of solving directed Hamiltonian path problem was ...performed on a map with five towns built based on optical fiber network. The decision of the existence of Hamiltonian path can be made by monitoring the delayed output pulses from the fiber network where a positive answer means a pulse appearing at the delay equal to the total delay of the whole graph. The decision was successfully made in 82 ns. Considering the maximum obtainable pulse energy of ~10 μJ in fiber and minimum 10 photons for a reliable detection, we argue that current fiber technology shall allow interrogating graphs with up to a few hundred nodes. Moreover, it is known that all the NP-complete problems can be transferred to each other with a polynomial complete reduction, meaning that this optical computer can be applied to solve all kinds of NP-complete problems.
Planning, scheduling and dispatching play critical roles in the operations of a supply chain. Their definitions are clearly given through a unified view in this paper. The distinction between ...planning and scheduling is analyzed from the view point of microeconomics and queueing theory. The distinction between scheduling and dispatching is analyzed from the view point of computational complexity and hierarchical decomposition. Based on the elasticity of price and capacity, planning can be separated into demand planning or capacity planning. Scheduling period is the time horizon where price and average production cost are insensitive to the production rate. The critical roles of the master production schedule and move targets in job scheduling have been explained through the concept of hierarchical decomposition. Dispatching is the last layer of job scheduling in the hierarchical decomposition. The advantage of pull and push systems has been compared and analyzed systematically.

Code size is an increasing concern on resource constrained systems, ranging from embedded devices to cloud servers. To address the issue, lowering memory occupancy has become a priority in developing ...and deploying applications, and accordingly compiler-based optimizations have been proposed to reduce program footprint. However, prior arts are generally dealing with source codes or intermediate representations, and thus are very limited in scope in real scenarios where only binary files are commonly provided. To fill the gap, this paper presents a novel code-size optimization RollBin to reroll loops at binary level. RollBin first locates the unrolled loops in binary files, and then probes to decide the unrolling factor by identifying regular memory address patterns. To reconstruct the iterations, we propose a customized data dependency analysis that tackles the challenges brought by shuffled instructions and loop-carry dependencies. Next, the recognized iterations are rolled up through instruction removal and update, which are generally reverting the normal unrolling procedure. The evaluations on standard SPEC2006/2017 and MiBench demonstrate that RollBin effectively shrinks code size by 1.7% and 2.2% on average (up to 7.8%), which respectively outperforms the state-of-the-arts by 31% and 38%. In addition, the use cases of representative realistic applications manifest that RollBin can be applicable in practices.
