Vanadium dioxide/titanium nitride (VO2/TiN) smart coatings are prepared by hybridizing thermochromic VO2 with plasmonic TiN nanoparticles. The VO2/TiN coatings can control infrared (IR) radiation ...dynamically in accordance with the ambient temperature and illumination intensity. It blocks IR light under strong illumination at 28 °C but is IR transparent under weak irradiation conditions or at a low temperature of 20 °C. The VO2/TiN coatings exhibit a good integral visible transmittance of up to 51% and excellent IR switching efficiency of 48% at 2000 nm. These unique advantages make VO2/TiN promising as smart energy‐saving windows.
Thermochromic vanadium oxide (VO2) film is coated on titanium nitrate (TiN) plasmonic nanoparticles to fabricate a hybrid VO2/TiN smart coating. This novel coating can intelligently control the infrared (IR) radiation under room‐temperature conditions by reflecting the IR radiation at a high temperature while allowing most of the radiation to go through at a low temperature.
2D metasurfaces have emerged as a paradigm‐shifting platform for light management with considerable miniaturization and alleviated fabrication challenges than their 3D counterparts. However, the ...appearance of in‐plane mirror symmetry and reduced dimensions impose fundamental restraints to advanced chiroptical responses and reconfiguration capabilities. Here, a new concept of Fano‐enhanced circular dichroism by introducing a reconfigurable stereo metasurface, which possesses deformable out‐of‐plane twists that are readily achieved by a simple nano‐kirigami fabrication method, is demonstrated. The stereo height and twisting geometries can be reproducibly controlled, providing a facile and automated fashion to tailor the distinct profiles of Fano resonances under circularly polarized incidence. As a result, a recorded high efficiency of circular dichroism generation per unit sample thickness is achieved with Fano resonances in opposite lineshapes. Leveraging this feature, large‐range reconfiguration of circular dichroism at optical wavelengths is demonstrated through reversible compression of the stereo metasurfaces with a fiber tip. The studied stereo metasurface unfolds a new degree of freedom for advanced photonic applications in a quasi‐flat optical platform, and the proposed concept of Fano‐enhanced circular dichroism opens new venues to explore interesting fundamental phenomena of chiral optics.
Stereo metasurfaces with deformable out‐of‐plane chiral twists, which interface the 2D metasurfaces and 3D metamaterials, are experimentally demonstrated by an instant 2D‐to‐3D nano‐kirigami method. The induced circular dichroism is dramatically enhanced by chiral Fano resonances with opposite profiles, which is dynamically reconfigurable by mechanical compression of the stereo twists.
Metallic lithium affords the highest theoretical capacity and lowest electrochemical potential and is viewed as a leading contender as an anode for high-energy-density rechargeable batteries. ...However, the poor wettability of molten lithium does not allow it to spread across the surface of lithiophobic substrates, hindering the production and application of this anode. Here we report a general chemical strategy to overcome this dilemma by reacting molten lithium with functional organic coatings or elemental additives. The Gibbs formation energy and newly formed chemical bonds are found to be the governing factor for the wetting behavior. As a result of the improved wettability, a series of ultrathin lithium of 10-20 μm thick is obtained together with impressive electrochemical performance in lithium metal batteries. These findings provide an overall guide for tuning the wettability of molten lithium and offer an affordable strategy for the large-scale production of ultrathin lithium, and could be further extended to other alkali metals, such as sodium and potassium.
Based on previous studies about microflora regulation and immunity enhancement activities of polysaccharides from
Nannf. var.
(Nannf.) L. T. Shen (CPP), there is little study on intestinal mucosal ...immunity, which is a possible medium for contacting microflora and immunity. In the present study, the BALB/c mice were divided into five groups (eight mice in each group), including a normal group (Con), a model control group (Model), and model groups that were administered CPP (50, 100, 200 mg/kg/d) orally each day for seven days after intraperitoneal injection of 60 mg/kg BW/d cyclophosphamide (CP) for three days. CPP recovered the spleen index and restored the levels of IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-10, as well as serum IgG. In addition, it elevated ileum secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA), the number of
and acetic acid content in cecum. These results indicated that CPP plays an important role in the protection against immunosuppression, especially mucosa immune damage, and the inhibition of pathogenic bacteria colonization, which could be considered a potential natural source of immunoregulator.
The intelligent analysis of video data is currently in wide demand because a video is a major source of sensory data in our lives. Text is a prominent and direct source of information in video, while ...the recent surveys of text detection and recognition in imagery focus mainly on text extraction from scene images. Here, this paper presents a comprehensive survey of text detection, tracking, and recognition in video with three major contributions. First, a generic framework is proposed for video text extraction that uniformly describes detection, tracking, recognition, and their relations and interactions. Second, within this framework, a variety of methods, systems, and evaluation protocols of video text extraction are summarized, compared, and analyzed. Existing text tracking techniques, tracking-based detection and recognition techniques are specifically highlighted. Third, related applications, prominent challenges, and future directions for video text extraction (especially from scene videos and web videos) are also thoroughly discussed.
This study aimed to observe the relationship between education level and outcomes after total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
One thousand two hundred sixty four patients after TKA in our hospital from ...April 2016 to April 2020 were reviewed. These patients were divided into 4 groups (A who were illiterate, B who had elementary school degree, C who had junior high school degree, D who had senior high school degree or higher) by the educational level, which was blinded to the observers. The postoperative outcomes of KSS score, pain, joint extension and flexion function were observed 1 year after discharged from hospital.
Among 1253 patients met the inclusion criteria, the average age was 68.63 years, the average body mass was 57.73 kg. There are no distinctions among 4 groups one day after the surgery. However, the outcomes of the follow up were that, the KSS score was: 77.84 ± 10.635; 80.70 ± 8.956; 87.92 ± 8.123;91.27 ± 8.262, with significant differences (P < 0.05). The mean VAS scores were: 1.97 ± 1.60; 2.07 ± 1.66; 1.197 ± 1.5265, 1.044 ± 1.4662. Patients in Group C and D had significantly less pain than that in Group A and B (P < 0.05). The knee flexion range of motion (ROM) was: 91.21 ± 11.69°; 91.77 ± 11.95°; 102.12 ± 11.38°; 109.96 ± 10.64°, Group D performed best, with significant differences (P < 0.05). The knee extension ROM were: - 2.41 ± 4.49°; - 0.91 ± 2.82°; - 0.83 ± 2.87°; - 0.35 ± 1.60°, with significant difference between Group D and the others (P < 0.05).
Education level affects the outcomes such as VAS score, KSS score, the extension and flexion ROM of the knee after TKA. The patients with higher education level have better outcomes.
As one of the fascinating high capacity cathodes, O3‐type layered oxides usually suffer from their intrinsic air sensitivity and sluggish kinetics originating from the spontaneous lattice Na ...extraction during air exposure and high tetrahedral site energy of Na+ diffusion transition state. What is worse, the improvement on the two handicaps is hard to simultaneously realize because of the contradiction between Na containment suggested in air stability mechanism and enhanced Na diffusion mentioned in kinetics strategy. Herein, it is shown that a simple strategy of introducing proper Na vacancies into lattice can simultaneously realize a dual performance improvement. Na vacancies decrease the charge density on transitional metal ions and enhance the antioxidative capability of material, ensuring a stable lattice Na containment for Na0.93Li0.12Ni0.25Fe0.15Mn0.48O2 when exposed to air. Additionally, more Na+ diffusional sites and enlarged Na layer spacing are obtained and result in a significantly decreased energy barrier from ≈1000 to 300 meV and a high rate capability of 70.8% retention at 2000 mA g−1. Remarkably, such a strategy can be easily realized by either pre‐ or post‐treating, which exhibits excellent universality for various O3 materials, implying its enormous potential to promote the commercial application of O3‐type cathodes.
A universal strategy of introducing proper Na vacancies into a crystal lattice is proposed to simultaneously improve air‐stability and kinetics of O3‐type layered oxide cathodes. The dual improvement benefits from the multiple effects of Na vacancies on crystalline and electronic structure, namely, decreased charge density on transition metal ions, enhanced antioxidative capability, decreased Na+ diffusion barrier, and optimized migration path.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has resulted in an unprecedented public health crisis. Because of the novelty ...of the virus, there are currently no SARS-CoV-2-specific treatments or vaccines available. Therefore, rapid development of effective vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 are urgently needed. Here, we developed a pilot-scale production of PiCoVacc, a purified inactivated SARS-CoV-2 virus vaccine candidate, which induced SARS-CoV-2-specific neutralizing antibodies in mice, rats, and nonhuman primates. These antibodies neutralized 10 representative SARS-CoV-2 strains, suggesting a possible broader neutralizing ability against other strains. Three immunizations using two different doses, 3 or 6 micrograms per dose, provided partial or complete protection in macaques against SARS-CoV-2 challenge, respectively, without observable antibody-dependent enhancement of infection. These data support the clinical development and testing of PiCoVacc for use in humans.
At present, more and more attention has been paid to the development of active wound dressings. Chitosan, a kind of carbohydrate polymer with good biocompatibility, is widely used in the field of ...wound dressings. In this study, a slopeing free surface electrospinning (SFSE) device was presented to prepare large quantities of polycaprolactone/chitosan/aloe vera (PCL/CS/AV) nanofiber membranes (NFMs) for antibacterial wound dressing. And the morphologies of PCL/CS/AV NFMs with varying weight ratios of PCL:CS:AV were studied using SEM, and the optimal weight ratio of 5:3:2 was determined for better wound dressings. Then the structure, wetting property and yield of the PCL/CS/AV NFMs with the optimal weight ratio were investigated, and the effects of the addition of AV on the antibacterial performance and the biocompatibility of NFMs was studied. In addition, the preparation mechanism of SFSE was researched by simulating the electric field distribution using Maxwell 3D due to the important role of the electric field in the SFSE process. The simulation analyses of electric fields agreed with the experimental data. The results illustrated SFSE could prepare high quality PCL/CS/AV NFMs in batches, and its yield of PCL/CS/AV NFMs was 10 times more than the single-needle ES, and the fabricated NFMs showed excellent antibacterial performance and biocompatibility, which made them suitable for wound dressings.
