Background A variety of inflammatory mediators and effector cells participate together in acute lung injury,and lead to secondary injury that is due to an inflammatory cascade and secondary diffuse ...lung parenchyma injury.Inflammation is associated with an oxidative stress reaction,which is produced in the development of airway inflammation,and which has positive feedback on inflammation itself.Resolvin D1 can reduce the infiltration of neutrophils,regulate cytokine levels and reduce the inflammation reaction,and thereby promote the resolution of inflammation.The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of resolvin D1 on an inflammatory response and oxidative stress during lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury.Methods LPS (3 mg/kg) was used to induce the acute lung injury model.Pretreatment resolvin D1 (100 ng/mouse) was given to mice 30 minutes before inducing acute lung injury.Mice were observed at 6 hours,12 hours,1 day,2 days,3 days,4 days and 7 days after LPS was administrated,then they were humanely sacrificed.We collected bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and the lung tissues for further analysis.Paraffin section and HE staining of the lung tissues were made for histopathology observations.Parts of the lung tissues were evaluated for wet-to-dry (W/D) weight ratio.tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α,inter leukin (IL)-1β,IL-10 and myeloperoxidase (MPO) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).A lipid peroxidation malondialdehyde (MDA) assay kit was used to detect MDA.A total superoxide dismutase assay kit with WST-1 was used to analyze superoxide dismutase (SOD).We determined the apoptosis of neutrophils by Flow Cytometry.A real-time quantitative PCR Detecting System detected the expression of mRNA for heme oxygenase (HO)-1.Results Pretreatment with resolvin D1 reduced the pathological damage in the lung,decreased the recruitment of neutrophils and stimulated their apoptosis.It markedly decreased the expressions of TNF-α,IL-1β and increased the expressions of IL-10,and decreased the production of MDA and increased the expressions of SOD.The mRNA expression of HO-1 was also significantly increased.Conclusions Resolvin D1 displays potent anti-inflammatory actions by regulating cytokines,inhibiting aberrant neutrophil recruitment and stimulating apoptosis of neutrophils.Resolvin D1 can also relieve the injury due to oxidative stress.The mechanisms might be related to increase HO-1 expression.
The bone formation feasibility by a novel magnesium alloy device was evaluated using a canine vertical mandibular distraction osteogenesis(DO) model. Osteotomies were performed in the area where last ...3 star’s teeth of left mandibular were pulled out before 3 months. Both AZ31 magnesium alloy(n ? 6) and 316 L stainless steel(n ? 6) distraction devices were implanted. The distraction osteogenesis was carried out with a latency of 5 days after mandibular osteotomy. Distraction proceeded at a rate of 0.3 mm/8 h for 7 days and followed by 4 weeks of consolidations. The evaluations were conducted by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and histological examinations. There were osteoblasts and trabecular bones formations manifestly in both groups. There was no significant difference in the bone mineral density between the two groups. The surface of the magnesium alloy was much more cracked and uneven, resulting from the surface pitting corrosion. The crew nails were closely combined with the surrounding bone tissue. AZ31 magnesium alloy exhibited a certain degradation rate in mandibular and did not post a negative effect on the kidney and liver. The observations in magnesium alloys group is consistent with the stainless steel group.

N. lugens
using high-throughput sequencing technology. We observed that the microbial diversity in eggs and mated adults was higher than that in nymphs and unmated adults. We also observed a notable strong correlation between fungal and bacterial α-diversity, which suggests that fungi and bacteria are closely linked and may perform functions collaboratively during the whole developmental period.
Arsenophonus
and
Hirsutella
were the predominant bacterial and fungal taxa, respectively. Bacteria were more conserved than fungi during the transmission of the microbiota between developmental stages. Compared with that in the nymph and unmated adult stages of
N. lugens
, the correlation between bacterial and fungal communities in the mated adult and egg stages was stronger. Moreover, the core microbiota across all developmental stages in
N. lugens
was identified, and there were more bacterial genera than fungal genera; notably, the core microbiota of eggs, nymphs, and mated and unmated adults showed distinctive functional enrichment. These findings highlight the potential value of further exploring microbial functions during different developmental stages and developing new pest management strategies.

Methods
We reviewed the clinical and radiological data of 143 cervical SCI patients in chronic stage and divided into non-operative group (
n
= 61) and operative group (
n
= 82). The severity of neurological involvement was assessed using the ASIA motor score (AMS) and Functional Independence Measure Motor Score (FIM MS). The health-related quality of life was measured using the SF-36 questionnaire. Correspondence between the clinical and radiological findings and the neurological outcome was investigated.
Results
At 2-year follow-up, surgery resulted in greater improvement in AMS and FIM MS than non-operative group. Regression analysis revealed that lower initial AMS (
P
= 0.000), longer duration after injury (
P
= 0.022) and injury above C4 level (
P
= 0.022) were factors predictive of lower final AMS. Longer duration (
P
= 0.020) and injury above C4 level (
P
= 0.010) were associated with a lower FIM MS. SF-36 scores were significantly lower in higher age (

= 0.015), female patients (

= 0.009) and patients with longer duration (

= 0.001).
Conclusion
It is reasonable to consider surgical decompression in patients with cervical SCI in chronic stage and persistent spinal cord compression and/or gross cervical instability. Initial AMS, longer duration, injury above C4 level, higher age and female patients are the five major relevant factors of functional recovery.
Nrf2 is a transcription factor that plays critical roles in regulating the expression of cellular defensive antioxidants and detoxification enzymes. However, the role of Nrf2 and Nrf2's epigenetics ...reprogramming in skin tumor transformation is unknown. In this study, we investigated the inhibitory role and epigenetics of Nrf2 on tumor transformation induced by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) in mouse skin epidermal JB6 (JB6 P+) cells and the anticancer effect of sulforaphane (SFN), an isothiocyanate found in cruciferous vegetables. After five days of treatment, SFN significantly inhibited TPA-induced JB6 cellular transformation and SFN enhanced the nuclear translocation of Nrf2 and increased the mRNA and protein levels of the Nrf2 target genes HO-1, NQO1 and UGT1A1. Knockdown of Nrf2 attenuated the induction of Nrf2, HO-1 and NQO1 by SFN, enhanced TPA-induced colony formation and dampened the inhibitory effect of SFN on TPA-induced JB6 transformation. Epigenetics investigation using bisulfite genomic sequencing showed that SFN decreased the methylation ratio of the first 15 CpGs of the Nrf2 gene promoter, which was corroborated by increased Nrf2 mRNA expression. Furthermore, SFN strongly reduced the protein expression of DNA methyltransferases (DNMT1, DNMT3a and DNMT3b). SFN also inhibited the total histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity and decreased the protein expression of HDAC1, HDAC2, HDAC3 and HDAC4. Collectively, these results suggest that the anti-cancer effect of SFN against TPA-induced neoplastic transformation of mouse skin could involve the epigenetic reprogramming of anti-cancer genes such as Nrf2, leading to the epigenetic reactivation of Nrf2 and the subsequent induction of downstream target genes involved in cellular protection.
Aim Ensuring adequate calcium (Ca) intake during childhood and adolescence is critical to acquire good peak bone mass to prevent osteoporosis during older age. As one of the primary strategies to ...build and maintain healthy bones, we aimed to determine whether dietary Ca intake has an influence on bone mineral density (BMD) in children and adolescents. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study composed of 10,092 individuals from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Dietary Ca intake and total BMD were taken as independent and dependent variables, respectively. To evaluate the association between them, we conducted weighted multivariate linear regression models and smooth curve fittings. Results There was a significantly positive association between dietary Ca intake and total BMD. The strongest association was observed in 12–15 year old whites, 8–11 year old and 16–19 year old Mexican Americans, and 16–19 year old individuals from other race/ethnicity, in whom each quintile of Ca intake was increased. We also found that there were significant inflection points in females, blacks, and 12–15 year old adolescents group, which means that their total BMD would decrease when the dietary Ca intake was more than 2.6–2.8 g/d. Conclusions This cross-sectional study indicated that a considerable proportion of children and adolescents aged 8–19 years would attain greater total BMD if they increased their dietary Ca intake. However, higher dietary Ca intake (more than 2.6–2.8 g/d) is associated with lower total BMD in females, blacks, and 12–15 year old adolescents group.
Anthropogenic N inputs have become progressively more problematic and have profoundly affected the water quality in megacities throughout China. Thus, to design and implement appropriate megalopolis ...watershed management, it is important to understand the relationship between N inputs and exports and to identify the N pollution sources. To that end, in this work, the net anthropogenic N inputs (NANI) in Chengdu City were estimated based on statistical data collected between 1970 and 2019. N input fluxes and pollution sources were estimated through sample collection and field measurements that were performed between 2017 and 2019, while nitrate (NO3−) was identified using stable isotope and Bayesian model (SIAR) analysis. The NANI was found to be affected primarily by livestock and poultry consumption of N rich feed. Moreover, the N export fluxes and runoff showed a high degree of correlation. Notably, NO3− fluxes exhibited a significant increase over the course of the study period, such that, by 2019, the total N fluxes (18,883.85 N kg/km2) exceeded the NANI (17,093.87 N kg/km2). The results indicate that although livestock and poultry farming were the original primary sources of NANI, their contributions declined on an annual basis. Moreover, with the emphasis placed on point source management in Chengdu City, domestic sewage discharge has been significantly reduced. Therefore, N retention in groundwater is thought to be the factor driving the N flux increase. These findings are pivotal to solving the N pollution problem in megacities like Chengdu (China).
The current standards used for nitrogen pollution evaluation are lacking, and scientific classification methods are needed for nitrogen pollution to improve water quality management capabilities. ...This study addresses the important issue of assessing surface water nitrogen pollution by utilizing two advanced multivariate statistical techniques: self-organizing maps (SOMs) obtained using the K-means algorithm and the Hasse diagram technique (HDT). The research targets of this study are the rivers of the megacity Chengdu, China. Samples were collected on a monthly basis in 2017–2020 from different sites along the rivers, and their nitrogen pollution parameters were determined. The grouping of nitrogen pollution parameters and the clustering of sampling events using SOMs facilitate the preprocessing required for the HDT, wherein clusters are ordered according to the pre-clustered water sampling events. The results indicate that nitrogen pollution in the Chengdu River Basin, which is prominent and mainly driven by nitrate nitrogen, can be categorized into five levels. The nitrogen pollution in Tuo River is serious. Although the degree of ammonia nitrogen pollution in Jin River is higher, the pollution range is smaller. Furthermore, these results were evaluated by the SOMs and HDT to be clear and reliable. Overall, these findings can provide a basis for local environmental legislation.
Background Spinal cord ischemia reperfusion injury (SCIRI) is a complication of aortic aneurysm repair or spinal cord surgery that is associated with permanent neurological deficits. Mesenchymal stem ...cell (MSC)-derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) have been shown to be potential therapeutic options for improving motor functions after SCIRI. Due to their easy access and multi-directional differentiation potential, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are preferable for this application. However, the effects of ADSC-derived sEVs (ADSC-sEVs) on SCIRI have not been reported. Results We found that ADSC-sEVs inhibited SCIRI-induced neuronal apoptosis, degradation of tight junction proteins and suppressed endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. However, in the presence of the ER stress inducer, tunicamycin, its anti-apoptotic and blood-spinal cord barrier (BSCB) protective effects were significantly reversed. We found that ADSC-sEVs contain tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-stimulated gene-6 (TSG-6) whose overexpression inhibited ER stress in vivo by modulating the PI3K/AKT pathway. Conclusions ADSC-sEVs inhibit neuronal apoptosis and BSCB disruption in SCIRI by transmitting TSG-6, which suppresses ER stress by modulating the PI3K/AKT pathway. SiC MOSFET integrated with Schottky barrier diode (SBD) can handle the reverse current during switching operation and reduce the package cost. However, the integrated SBD weakens the ...high-voltage-withstanding capability of the SiC MOSFET. In this article, a novel 4H-SiC trench MOSFET integrated with mesa-sidewall SBD (TMS-SBD) is proposed and studied with the 2-D simulation. Compared with the trench MOSFET integrated with the SBD locating on the mesa (TM-SBD), the TMS-SBD shows a larger breakdown voltage (BV), a lower electric field in the gate oxide, and a better tradeoff between BV and specific ON-resistance. The TMS-SBD also shows the same current capability as that of the TM-SBD. Due to the removal of one sidewall overlap between the gate electrode and drain electrode, the reverse capacitance of TMS-SBD is lower than that of the TM-SBD. In double-pulse test simulation, the turn-on loss and turn-off loss of the TMS-SBD reduce by 30% and 56% than those of the TM-SBD, respectively. Therefore, the TMS-SBD is a more attractive device in high-voltage, high-reliability, and low-switching-loss applications.
