The calculated maximum net photosynthetic rate (P N) at saturation irradiance (I m) of 1 314.13 μmol m-² s-¹ was 25.49 μmol(CO₂) m-² s-¹, and intrinsic quantum yield at zero irradiance was 0.103. The ...results fitted by nonrectangular hyperbolic model, rectangular hyperbolic method, binomial regression method, and the new model were compared. The maximum P N values calculated by nonrectangular hyperbolic model and rectangular hyperbolic model were higher than the measured values, and the I m calculated by nonrectangular hyperbolic model and rectangular hyperbolic model were less than measured values. Results fitted by new model showed that the response curve of P N to I was nonlinear at low I for Oryza sativa, P N increased nonlinearly with I below saturation value. Above this value, P N decreased nonlinearly with I.

Ribosomes can produce proteins in minutes and are largely constrained to proteinogenic amino acids. Here, we report highly efficient chemistry matched with an automated fast-flow instrument for the ...direct manufacturing of peptide chains up to 164 amino acids long over 327 consecutive reactions. The machine is rapid: Peptide chain elongation is complete in hours. We demonstrate the utility of this approach by the chemical synthesis of nine different protein chains that represent enzymes, structural units, and regulatory factors. After purification and folding, the synthetic materials display biophysical and enzymatic properties comparable to the biologically expressed proteins. High-fidelity automated flow chemistry is an alternative for producing single-domain proteins without the ribosome.

DAMA/LIBRA is running at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory of the I.N.F.N. Here the results obtained with a further exposure of 0.34 ton × yr are presented. They refer to two further annual cycles ...collected one before and one after the first DAMA/LIBRA upgrade occurred on September/October 2008. The cumulative exposure with those previously released by the former DAMA/NaI and by DAMA/LIBRA is now 1.17 ton × yr, corresponding to 13 annual cycles. The data further confirm the previous positive results obtained investigating the presence of Dark Matter (DM) particles in the galactic halo by means of the model independent Dark Matter annual modulation signature; the confidence level is now 8.9

The vacuum ultraviolet beamline BL03U with a photon energy range from 7 eV upwards has been constructed at the 3.5 GeV Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility. Equipped with an APPLE‐Knot undulator, ...this beamline is dedicated to angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy. An energy‐resolving power of higher than 4.6 × 104 has been achieved in the photon energy range 21.6–48 eV, which is almost the same as the theoretical estimation.
The design and performance test of the vacuum ultraviolet beamline BL03U at SSRF are described.
The results obtained with the total exposure of 1.04 ton × yr collected by DAMA/LIBRA–phase1 deep underground at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) of the I.N.F.N. during 7 annual cycles ...(i.e. adding a further 0.17 ton × yr exposure) are presented. We study the process e^{+}e^{-}→Λ_{c}^{+}Λover ¯_{c}^{-} at twelve center-of-mass energies from 4.6119 to 4.9509 GeV using data samples collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The ...Born cross sections and effective form factors (|G_{eff}|) are determined with unprecedented precision after combining the single and double-tag methods based on the decay process Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+}. Flat cross sections around 4.63 GeV are obtained and no indication of the resonant structure Y(4630), as reported by Belle, is found. In addition, no oscillatory behavior is discerned in the |G_{eff}| energy dependence of Λ_{c}^{+}, in contrast to what is seen for the proton and neutron cases. Analyzing the cross section together with the polar-angle distribution of the Λ_{c}^{+} baryon at each energy point, the moduli of electric and magnetic form factors (|G_{E}| and |G_{M}|) are extracted and separated. For the first time, the energy dependence of the form factor ratio |G_{E}/G_{M}| is observed, which can be well described by an oscillatory function.
The first model independent results obtained by the DAMA/LIBRA-phase2 experiment are presented. The data have been collected over 6 annual cycles corresponding to a total exposure of 1.13 t yr, ...deep underground at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) of the I.N.F.N. The DAMA/LIBRA-phase2 apparatus, ≃ 250 kg highly radio-pure NaI(Tl), profits from a second generation high quantum efficiency photomultipliers and of new electronics with respect to DAMA/LIBRA-phase1. The improved experimental configuration has also allowed to lower the software energy threshold. New data analysis strategies are presented. The DAMA/LIBRA-phase2 data confirm the evidence of a signal that meets all the requirements of the model independent Dark Matter (DM) annual modulation signature, at 9.5 C.L. in the energy region (1 - 6) keV. In the energy region between 2 and 6 keV, where data are also available from DAMA/NaI and DAMA/LIBRA-phase1 (exposure 1.33 t yr, collected over 14 annual cycles), the achieved C.L. for the full exposure (2.46 t yr) is 12.9 ; the modulation amplitude of the single-hit scintillation events is: (0.0103 ± ± 0.0008) cpd/kg/keV, the measured phase is (145 ± 5) d and the measured period is (0.999 ± 0.001) yr, all these values are well in agreement with those expected for DM particles. No systematics or side reaction able to mimic the exploited DM signature (i.e. to account for the whole measured modulation amplitude and to simultaneously satisfy all the requirements of the signature), has been found or suggested by anyone throughout some decades thus far.
The highly radiopure ≃ 250 kg NaI(Tl) DAMA/LIBRA set-up is running at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory of the INFN. In this paper the first result obtained by exploiting the model independent ...annual modulation signature for Dark Matter (DM) particles is presented. It refers to an exposure of 0.53 ton×yr. The collected DAMA/LIBRA data satisfy all the many peculiarities of the DM annual modulation signature. Neither systematic effects nor side reactions able to account for the observed modulation amplitude and to contemporaneously satisfy all the several requirements of this DM signature are available. Considering the former DAMA/NaI and the present DAMA/LIBRA data all together (total exposure 0.82 ton×yr), the presence of Dark Matter particles in the galactic halo is supported, on the basis of the DM annual modulation signature, at 8.2
σ
C.L.; in particular, in the energy interval (2–6) keV, the modulation amplitude is (0.0131±0.0016) cpd/kg/keV and the phase and the period are well compatible with June 2
nd
and one year, respectively.
Mild hypothermia is known to be protected against ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury. But the exact mechanisms of protection have not yet been fully understood and its usage has been limited. Mild ...hypothermia pretreatment (MHP) is used to investigate the mechanisms of the protective effects against liver IR injury.
Anesthetized male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups including the normal group (N), sham group (S), MHP group, normothermia pretreatment (NP) + IR group, and the MHP + IR group. In the pretreatment groups, mild hypothermia (32.2 ± 0.3°C) and normothermia (37 ± 0.5°C) pretreatment were applied for 2 hours, respectively. Then the IR groups suffered partial (70%) hepatic ischemia for 1 hour and reperfusion for 6 hours. At last, hepatic injury, apoptosis, and protein expression were assessed.
Levels of serum alanine transaminase, hepatic injury, hepatocyte apoptosis, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) phosphorylation were significantly higher in the IR groups. But when compared to NP, all these changes induced by IR were markedly attenuated by MHP. Serum alanine transaminase levels were 383.4 ± 13.1U/L in the MHP + IR group and 951.3 ± 39.4 U/L in the NP + IR group. The histologic score of liver injury in the MHP + IR group was 4.83 ± 1.17, whereas in the NP + IR group it was 10.5 ± 1.05. The proportion of apoptotic cells in the MHP + IR group was 11.58 ± 0.60, but in the NP + IR group, it was 44.95 ± 1.61. The phosphorylation of JNK was also significantly reduced in the MHP + IR group. All these differences are statistically significant (P < .05).
MHP could markedly reduce liver IR injury, and these protective effects may be mainly exerted via inhibition of JNK phosphorylation.
•Mild hypothermia pretreatment (MHP) was used in this study, a whereby prior exposure to a stimulus triggers phenotypic changes resistant to subsequent insults. These effects have been rarely studied in mild hypothermia.•Mild hypothermia could protect the liver from ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury.•The exact mechanisms of protective effects were investigated.•MHP could significantly reduce liver injury induced by IR.•Molecular mechanisms confirmed that cell apoptosis and c-Jun N-terminal kinase phosphorylation played an important role.
