From the experimental data on the rates of urea transfer from blood to dialysate in a test hemodialyzer, a practical equation for the effect of the hematocrit on the blood-phase urea transfer ...coefficient is proposed. With this equation, the overall mass transfer coefficient that takes into account the properties of the blood can be estimated for the commercially available disposable flat membrane-type and hollow fiber-type hemodialyzers from the data for a relatively simple dialysate--dialysate system.
Contents of free amino acids were determined in habituated green cells (auxin autotrophic), which were induced from exogenous-auxin-requiring cultured cells of tobacco (Nicotiana glutinosa). ...Consequently, the total content of free amino acids in habituated cells was three times that in non-habituated cells, and especially the free lysine content in the former was 101.68μmol/g dry cells, 16 times that in the latter. It was suggested that 2, 4-D added in the medium had marked influences on the growth and metabolism of amino acids of the habituated cells.

The resistances for the urea transfer in the coil-type, plate-type, and the hollow fiber-type hemodialyzers were split into the resistances of the blood phase, dialyzing membrane, and the dialysate ...phase. Empirical equations forthe blood phase and the dialysate phase mass transfer coefficients containing the blood and dialysate flow rates were obtained. The blood phase mass transfer coefficient was further correlated with the hematocrit. The results indicate that the blood phase resistance is more than half of the overall resistance in any of the hemodialyzers studied.
