An uncertainty-oriented cross-scale topology optimization model with global stress reliability constraint, local displacement constraint, and micro-manufacturing control based on evidence theory is ...presented. The model is oriented to two-dimensional porous material structure, which concurrently designs the material distribution of both the macrostructure and the cell microstructure. During the optimization process, the homogenization method is used to solve the equivalent elastic modulus of the cell microstructure, which is then endowed to the macro-elements for subsequent analysis. The local stress constraints are converted to a global constraint by P-norm to reduce the computational consumption. Considering the uncertainty factors, the evidence theory is utilized to process the uncertainty parameters and evaluate the reliability of the structural strength performance. Minimum length-scale constraint is imposed on the cell microstructure by a density projection method for better manufacturability. Three numerical examples are presented to illustrate the availability of the proposed model.
The embedding and extraction of knowledge is a recent trend in machine learning applications, e.g., to supplement training datasets that are small. Whilst, as the increasing use of machine learning ...models in security-critical applications, the embedding and extraction of malicious knowledge are equivalent to the notorious backdoor attack and defence, respectively. This paper studies the embedding and extraction of knowledge in tree ensemble classifiers, and focuses on knowledge expressible with a generic form of Boolean formulas, e.g., point-wise robustness and backdoor attacks. For the embedding, it is required to be
preservative
(the original performance of the classifier is preserved),
verifiable
(the knowledge can be attested), and
stealthy
(the embedding cannot be easily detected). To facilitate this, we propose two novel, and effective embedding algorithms, one of which is for black-box settings and the other for white-box settings. The embedding can be done in

. Beyond the embedding, we develop an algorithm to extract the embedded knowledge, by reducing the problem to be solvable with an SMT (satisfiability modulo theories) solver. While this novel algorithm can successfully extract knowledge, the reduction leads to an

computation. Therefore, if applying embedding as backdoor attacks and extraction as defence, our results suggest a complexity gap (P vs. NP) between the attack and defence when working with tree ensemble classifiers. We apply our algorithms to a diverse set of datasets to validate our conclusion extensively.
The design and control of a novel piezoelectric actuated compliant microgripper is studied in this paper to achieve fast, precise, and robust micro grasping operations. First, the microgripper ...mechanism was designed to get a large jaw motion stroke. A three-stage flexure-based amplification composed of the homothetic bridge and leverage mechanisms was developed and the key structure parameters were optimized. The microgripper was manufactured using the wire electro discharge machining technique. Finite element analysis and experimental tests were carried out to examine the performance of the microgripper mechanism. The results show that the developed microgripper has a large amplification factor of 22.6. Dynamic modeling was conducted using experimental system identification, and the displacement and force transfer functions were obtained. The position/force switching control strategy was utilized to realize both precision position tracking and force regulation. The controller composed of an incremental proportional-integral-derivative control and a discrete sliding mode control with exponential reaching law was designed based on the dynamic models. Experiments were performed to investigate the control performance during micro grasping process, and the results show that the developed compliant microgripper exhibits good performance, and fast and robust grasping operations can be realized using the developed microgripper and controller.
This paper presents a novel microgripper mechanism for micromanipulation and assembly. The microgripper is driven by a piezoelectric actuator, and a three-stage flexure-based amplification has been ...designed to achieve large jaw displacements. The kinematic, static and dynamic models of the microgripper have been established and optimized considering the crucial parameters that determine the characteristics of the microgripper. Finite element analysis was conducted to evaluate the characteristics of the microgripper, and wire electro discharge machining technique was utilized to fabricate the monolithic structure of the microgripper mechanism. Experimental tests were carried out to investigate the performance of the microgripper and the results show that the microgripper can grasp microobjects with the maximum jaw motion stroke of 190 μm corresponding to the 100-V applied voltage. It has an amplification ratio of 22.8 and working mode frequency of 953 Hz.
This study investigated ericoid mycorrhizal fungi (EMF) diversity in Vaccinium uliginosum across its main wild distribution range in China. Fungal communities in hair roots of V. uliginosum were ...analyzed using Illumina MiSeq sequencing. Only 22 OTUs were assigned to putative EMF genera. Rhizoscyphus and Meliniomyces dominated EMF communities, followed by Clavaria, Oidiodendron, Lachnum, Acephala, and Phialocephala. There were more dark septate endophytes (DSE) reads from the Greater Khingan Mountains than from other study areas, similar to the results of the percent colonization of DSE by the magnified intersections method. Overall, high-throughput sequencing data provided a rough community-scale sketch of root-associated fungi of V. uliginosum. Two hundred and eighty slow-growing isolates were isolated from root pieces of V. uliginosum, and the isolates matched 16 fungal genera on the basis of morphological and internal transcribed spacer sequence comparison. The isolates of Cryptosporiopsis ericae, Oidiodendron maius, Lachnum sp., Sordariomycetes sp., and Pleosporales sp., formed ericoid hyphal coils via resynthesis trails. The co-existence between EMF and DSE in hair roots was observed via trypan blue staining. A putative model for the co-existence between EMF and DSE in the hair roots of V. uliginosum was proposed. We suggest that under certain environmental stresses, such as low temperature and poor available nutrients, ericoid plants may favor co-colonization by both DSE and EMF.
Recent studies suggest important roles for long non-coding RNAs as essential regulators of myogenic differentiation. Here, we report that lncRNA Irm is upregulated during myogenesis. Functional ...analyses show that the overexpression of Irm enhances myogenic differentiation, whereas the inhibition of Irm has completely opposite effects in vitro. Notably, the inhibition of Irm blocks damage-induced muscle regeneration in vivo. Mechanistically, Irm regulates the expression of myogenic genes by directly binding to MEF2D, which in turn promotes the assembly of MyoD/MEF2D on the regulatory elements of target genes. Collectively, we have identified a novel lncRNA that interacts with MEF2D to regulate myogenesis.

Exploration of high‐performance cathode materials for rechargeable aqueous Zn ion batteries (ZIBs) is highly desirable. The potential of molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) in other electrochemical energy ...storage devices has been revealed but held understudied in ZIBs. Herein, a demonstration of orthorhombic MoO3 as an ultrahigh‐capacity cathode material in ZIBs is presented. The energy storage mechanism of the MoO3 nanowires based on Zn2+ intercalation/deintercalation and its electrochemical instability mechanism are particularly investigated and elucidated. The severe capacity decay of the MoO3 nanowires during charging/discharging cycles arises from the dissolution and the structural collapse of MoO3 in aqueous electrolyte. To this end, an effective strategy to stabilize MoO3 nanowires by using a quasi‐solid‐state poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/ZnCl2 gel electrolyte to replace the aqueous electrolyte is developed. The capacity retention of the assembled ZIBs after 400 charge/discharge cycles at 6.0 A g−1 is significantly boosted, from 27.1% (in aqueous electrolyte) to 70.4% (in gel electrolyte). More remarkably, the stabilized quasi‐solid‐state ZIBs achieve an attracting areal capacity of 2.65 mAh cm−2 and a gravimetric capacity of 241.3 mAh g−1 at 0.4 A g−1, outperforming most of recently reported ZIBs.
Orthorhombic MoO3 nanowires are demonstrated as an ultrahigh‐capacity cathode material in Zn ion batteries (ZIBs). Benefiting from the unique layered structure and the stabilized MoO3 nanowires, a high‐performance quasisolid state Zn//MoO3 battery with attracting capacity of 2.65 mAh cm−2 (243.1 mAh g−1) and energy density of 14.4 mWh cm−3 as well as decent durability is constituted.
Human papillomaviruses (HPVs), such as HPV 16 and HPV 18 are related to cervical cancer. Therefore, it is important to inhibit HPV-positive cervical cancer for treating cervical cancer. This study is ...aiming at investigating the proposed molecular mechanism, which underlies the antineoplastic potential of the aqueous extract of juglone of HPV-positive cervical cancer cells. According to the results, it is showed that, juglone prohibited HPV positive cervical cancer cells’ growth through dose-dependent way. Nevertheless, when pin 1 was knocked down, the proliferation inhibition reduced. The detection of apoptosis and cell cycle also illustrated that juglone influenced HPV positive cells. Western blot expressed the influence mechanism that it affected the B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) family and later activated the Caspase-depended apoptosis way. It is contributable for this study to understand the mechanism of inhibiting HPV positive cells by juglone and it also provides an effective strategy for the application of it in the future.
Strong tropical cyclone (TC) Ockhi occurred in the southeastern Arabian Sea (AS) in 2017. Ockhi greatly changed the oceanic conditions and induced large variation in chlorophyll-a (Chl-a). The ...dynamic mechanisms of the long-term phytoplankton bloom after the passage of the TC were investigated in this study. Prominent surface ocean responses, e.g., decreasing temperature and salinity, were identified from Argo data by comparing the pre- and post-conditions of the TC. A phytoplankton bloom was observed in southeastern AS after the passage of TC Ockhi within the area of (11°N-14°N, 67°E-70°E) and lasted for seven days. Interestingly, there were two weaker cyclonic eddies, with an average vorticity of less than 0.14 s-1, on the TC trajectory from November 28 to December 2. As Ockhi approached, strong vertical mixing occurred on December 3, increasing the eddy vorticity to 0.26 s-1. After the passage of Ockhi, both eddies, with a two-day oscillation period, were substantially enhanced. Especially from December 11 to 16, the vorticity above 70 m was as high as 0.2 s-1 in the thermocline. Because of the high photosynthetically available radiation (PAR) and low precipitation, the enhanced cyclonic eddies induced upwelling for the entire thermocline for over ten days and uplifted nitrates into the mixed layer. This study offers new insights on the influence of eddies in regulating the impacts of typhoons on Chl-a, and the results can help evaluate typhoon-induced biological responses in the future.
