. The plasmid pRZP1 in strain ZPP could be conjugatively transferred to a recipient Rhodococcus erythropolis strain in a mating experiment and showed similar ethane- and propane-consuming activities. Finally, our findings demonstrate that the horizontal transfer of plasmid-based CuMMO and SDIMO genes confers the ability to use ethane and propane on the recipient.

: Functional specialization is a feature of human brain for understanding the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder (MDD). The degree of human specialization refers to within and cross hemispheric interactions. However, most previous studies only focused on interhemispheric connectivity in MDD, and the results varied across studies. Hence, brain functional connectivity asymmetry in MDD should be further studied.
: Resting-state fMRI data of 753 patients with MDD and 451 healthy controls were provided by REST-meta-MDD Project. Twenty-five project contributors preprocessed their data locally with the Data Processing Assistant State fMRI software and shared final indices. The parameter of asymmetry (PAS), a novel voxel-based whole-brain quantitative measure that reflects inter- and intrahemispheric asymmetry, was reported. We also examined the effects of age, sex and clinical variables (including symptom severity, illness duration and three depressive phenotypes).
: Compared with healthy controls, patients with MDD showed increased PAS scores (decreased hemispheric specialization) in most of the areas of default mode network, control network, attention network and some regions in the cerebellum and visual cortex. Demographic characteristics and clinical variables have significant effects on these abnormalities.
: Although a large sample size could improve statistical power, future independent efforts are needed to confirm our results.

Using solid phase extraction-high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, antibiotics belonging to four classes (i.e. sulfonamides, quinolones, tetracycline, and macrolides) in ...the surface water of Taihu Lake were monitored monthly for a year. Moreover, the potential ecological risks of antibiotics in Taihu Lake were assessed. During the one-year monitoring, all the eighteen target antibiotics were detected to some extent in the surface water. The detection rates of five sulfonamides (sulfamethoxazole, sulfathiazole, sulfadiazine, sulfadimethazine, and trimethoprim) were higher than 50%. The concentrations of quinolones in the surface water were relatively higher. The average and medium concentrations of ciprofloxacin were 13.0 ng·L
and 13.5 ng·L
, respectively. There were significant differences in the antibiotic pollution during the different months, with the average concentrations of the target antibiotics ranging from 7.3 to 33.5 ng·L
. The concentration levels were lower from June to October, while higher concentrations were observed from February to May and in November. In the surface water of Taihu Lake, the spatial variations of antibiotics among the 20 sampling sites were not significant, with the average concentrations ranging from 13.0 to 14.3 ng·L
. During the one-year monitoring, the rates of medium and high risks that the antibiotics posed to algae reached 57.5%. The ecological risks of antibiotics were more severe in April and November, and the quinolones may be the dominant risk factor. This issue should be carefully considered by management authorities.
Iodine deficiencies were prevalent in China until the introduction of universal salt iodization (USI) in 1995. In 2012, the standard salt iodine concentration was adjusted to 20-30 mg/kg. The success ...of USI for the control of iodine deficiency disorders requires monitoring its effect at a population level.
Two cross sectional surveys of a representative sample of children aged 8-10 years in Zhejiang Province were carried out in 2011 and 2013. Data on participants' socio-demographic characteristics were collected from the children using a structured questionnaire. Spot urine samples were collected and delivered to local Center for Disease Control and Prevention laboratory for measuring urinary iodine concentration. In 2011, out of 420 selected children aged 8-10 years, 391 were recorded and provided urine samples. In 2013, out of 1560 selected children aged 8-10 years, 1556 were recorded and provided urine samples.
The median urinary iodine concentration of subjects in the 2013 survey was 174.3 μg/L, significantly lower than that of 2011(p = 0.000). The median urinary iodine concentration of subjects living in urban and rural areas in the 2013 survey was 169.0 μg/L, and 186.1 μg/L respectively, significantly lower than that of 2011 only for subjects living in urban areas (p = 0.000). There were no significant differences for subjects living in rural areas in the survey in 2011 and in 2013 (p = 0.086).
At the time the new local iodization policy put forward, iodine nutrition was generally adequate in both urban and rural areas, suggesting that the new policy for adjusting the standard salt iodine concentration is effective. Our data also indicate that the reason people living in urban areas had a lower urinary iodine concentration than people in rural areas may be due to their preference for using non-iodized salt in the last 2 or 3 years. Maintaining USI at an appropriate level is an important part of preventing iodine deficiency disorders and should always be based on regular monitoring and comparison of urinary iodine concentration by province.
The aim of the present study was to explore the influencing factors of urinary iodine concentration (UIC) and the relationship between iodised salt concentration and UIC in order to give suggestions ...for the surveillance of iodine nutrition status. For this purpose, a multi-stage cluster sampling technique was employed in the present cross-sectional study. Correlations between UIC and salt iodine concentration were evaluated by Spearmen's correlation analysis. Risk factors of having a lower UIC were identified by logistic regression analysis, and the equations of UIC and salt iodine concentration were fitted by curve regression analysis. The median UIC was found to be 162·0 (25th-75th percentile 98·2-248·6) μg/l. The UIC was correlated with salt iodine concentration (Spearman's ρ = 0·144, P< 0·05). The multiple logistic regression analysis found the following influencing factors for having a lower UIC: age (OR 0·98, 95% CI 0·98, 0·98, P< 0·05); sex (OR 0·81, 95% CI 0·71, 0·92, P< 0·05); education level (OR 0·87, 95% CI 0·83, 0·90, P< 0·05); status of occupation (OR 0·91, 95% CI 0·86, 0·96, P< 0·05); occupation (OR 1·03, 95% CI 1·00, 1·05, P< 0·05); pickled food (OR 1·24, 95% CI 1·08, 1·42, P< 0·05); salt iodine concentration (OR 1·03, 95% CI 1·02, 1·03, P< 0·05). The curve regression analysis found that UIC (y) and salt iodine concentration (x) could be expressed by the following equation: y= 1·5772x 1·4845. In conclusion, the median UIC of individuals in Zhejiang Province falls within optimal status as recommended by the WHO/UNICEF/International Council for Control of IDD. To maintain optimal iodine nutrition status, salt iodine concentration should be in the range of 16·4 to 34·3 mg/kg.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the more serious complications after cardiac surgery. Elevated red cell distribution width (RDW) was reported as a predictor for cardiac surgery associated acute ...kidney injury (CSAKI). However, the increment of RDW by erythrocyte transfusion makes its prognostic role doubtful. The aim of this study is to elucidate the impact of erythrocyte transfusion on the prognostic role of elevated RDW for predicting CSAKI.
A total of 3207 eligible patients who underwent cardiac surgery during 2016-2017 were enrolled. Changes of RDW was defined as the difference between preoperative RDW and RDW measured 24 h after cardiac surgery. The primary outcome was CSAKI which was defined by the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes Definition and Staging (KDIGO) criteria. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to identify predictors for CSAKI.
The incidence of CSAKI was 38.07% and the mortality was 1.18%. CSAKI patients had higher elevated RDW than those without CSAKI (0.65% vs. 0.39%, p < 0.001). Multivariate regression showed that male, age, New York Heat Association classification 3-4, elevated RDW, estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2, cardiopulmonary bypass time > 120 min and erythrocyte transfusion were associated with CSAKI. Subgroup analysis showed elevated RDW was an independent predictor for CSAKI in the non-transfused subset (adjusted odds ratio: 1.616, p < 0.001) whereas no significant association between elevated RDW and CSAKI was found in the transfused patients (odds ratio: 1.040, p = 0.497).
Elevated RDW is one of the independent predictors of CSAKI in the absence of erythrocyte transfusion, which limits the prognostic role of the former on predicting CSAKI.
Immunotherapy has recently become a new focus for the treatment of malignant tumors following the surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and molecular targeted therapy. Nivolumab, a human monoclonal ...antibody, is the first programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitor, which can prohibit the interaction of its ligand (PD-L1), restoring the immune response of T cells, and enhancing the recognition of tumor cells by the immune system. Pulmonary carcinosarcoma is an uncommon but highly aggressive tumor type with a poor prognosis. We described a case of pulmonary carcinosarcoma, with the positive expression of PD-L1, obtained a significant benefit from Nivolumab treatment in a 64-year-old Chinese man, which give us a clue that patients with pulmonary carcinosarcoma may benefit fromanti-PD-1 immunotherapy.
Purpose
To demonstrate the efficacy and safety of ranibizumab 0.5 mg pro re nata (PRN) versus laser photocoagulation for the treatment of Chinese patients with visual impairment due to diabetic ...macular edema (DME).
Methods
REFINE was a phase III, 12-month, double-masked, multicenter, laser-controlled study in patients (aged ≥ 18 years) with DME. Patients were randomized 4:1 to receive either ranibizumab 0.5 mg or laser dosing regimen. Efficacy was evaluated as mean average change in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) from Months 1 to 12 versus baseline (primary endpoint), anatomical outcomes, treatment exposure, and safety were also assessed.
Results
Ranibizumab was statistically superior (
p
< 0.001) to laser treatment, with a mean average BCVA gain of 6.8 letters (ranibizumab) over 12 months versus 1.1 letters (laser). At Month 12, mean BCVA gain was 7.8 letters (ranibizumab) and 2.5 letters (laser) from baseline. Patients in the ranibizumab arm received a mean number of 7.9 intravitreal injections, whereas those in the laser arm received a mean of 2.1 treatments. There were no new safety signals.
Conclusion
Ranibizumab 0.5 mg PRN demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful treatment effect versus laser and was well tolerated in Chinese patients with visual impairment due to DME over 12 months.
