Increased interaction between sign language communities and the
mainstream societies in which they function is creating the
potential for greater equality of opportunity for people who are
deaf and ...hard of hearing. In this volume, renowned scholars and
policy makers from around the world present innovative and
groundbreaking perspectives on the relationships among sign
language, sustainable development, and equal opportunities. The
contributors to this volume offer creative and open-minded
explorations of the construct of sustainability that are informed
by their work with deaf individuals, deaf communities, families of
deaf children, and other stakeholders. Sign Language,
Sustainable Development, and Equal Opportunities describes
sustainability in relation to: · identity, resilience, and
well-being · participatory citizenship · historical perspectives
on sign language use in educational contexts · sign language
learning and teaching · human rights and inclusive education ·
literate thought and literacy · the sign language factor and the
development of sign language communities in sub-Saharan Africa ·
sign language legislation These changing communities' understanding
of what is required to become sustainable-in areas such as full
participation and citizenship in society, economic well-being,
access to quality education, and cultural and linguistic
identity-is also taking new forms. This work contributes to the
paradigm shifts regarding deaf emancipation and deaf education
taking place around the world.
This article is devoted to the constitution ‘Sacrosanctum Concilium’, the first document of Vatican II. The authors give a brief reminder of its contents and originality. The liturgical reform operated by the ‘Consilium’ had several phases, in particular the publication of liturgical books and their adaptation in different languages. The reform had the benefit at first of a favourable climate and was then marked by a certain resistance and even by a call to a «reform of the Reform » (Benedict XVI). The last part takes a bird’s eye view by trying to evaluate rituals and their relative acceptation because, in particular, of the «weight of the past » and the cultural evolution underway. Some present day challenges are mentioned : the art of celebration, participation, biblical and liturgical language, the use of space, education and mystagogy as well as the hypothesis of decentralization which would imply the «regionalization » of the Catholic Church. Finally, the authors review some types of hermeneutics applied to the Constitution.

Is there a governing authority for liturgy ? The article begins by studying the significance of the adage lex orandi, lex credendi ; in doing so we discover that the lex in question is that of ...Scripture, as received by Churches, and implemented in their liturgies. The rest of the article attempts to détermine the levels of authority of each of thèse bodies. Scripture appears as the fundamental norm ; the Church has a duty to oversee that the Biblical input and the liturgical norms correspond ; lastly, liturgists hâve the task of exercising a certain authority over liturgy so that what is attained corresponds to the intentions put forward.
