Background: Sports-related concussion (SRC) is an injury with important implications, especially in collision and contact sports, and has a high symptom burden. Student athletes face particular ...psychosocial challenges, especially female students with pre-existing anxiety/depression are at increased risk for SRC, and have a higher symptom burden before and after injury.
Objectives: Describing female SRC presenting features at a collegiate campus-based sports medicine service; examining the association of prior concussion history (PCONC) and pre- existing anxiety/depression (PMHDx) with SRC.
Methods: A retrospective cohort and statistical analysis (including corrected effect sizes) of Sport Concussion Assessment Tool (versions 3/5) data (Step 1: PCONC and PMHDx history; Step 2: symptom evaluation) of collegiate female athletes with SRC between 2012 and 2018.
Results: Forty females with SRC were identified (age 23 ± 3). The five most frequent symptoms were headache (n = 34; 85%), feeling slowed down (n = 33; 83%), pressure in head (n = 33; 83%), don't feel right (n = 32; 80%) and fatigue/low-energy (n = 32; 80%). These five symptoms also had the highest self-rated severity (median (IQR): headache (3 (2-4)), feeling slowed down (3 (1-4)), fatigue/low-energy (3 (1-5)), don't feel right (3 (1-4)) and pressure in head (3 (2-4)). PMHDx (n = 8; 62.9 vs 38.6; p = 0.0192; Hedges' gs = 0.95; large ES), and not PCONC (n = 13; 51.0 vs 39.8; p = 0.2183; Hedges' gs = 0.48; small ES) was associated with increased mean total symptom severity.
Conclusion: Headache, feeling slowed down, pressure in head, don't feel right and fatigue/low-energy had the highest symptom burden. Total symptom severity was no different in those with and without PCONC, but significantly higher in those with PMHDx.
We report the result for a search for the leptonic decay of B+→μ+νμ using the full Belle dataset of 711 fb−1 of integrated luminosity at the ϒ(4S) resonance. In the Standard Model leptonic B-meson ...decays are helicity and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa suppressed. To maximize sensitivity an inclusive tagging approach is used to reconstruct the second B meson produced in the collision. The directional information from this second B meson is used to boost the observed μ into the signal B-meson rest frame, in which the μ has a monochromatic momentum spectrum. Though its momentum is smeared by the experimental resolution, this technique improves the analysis sensitivity considerably. Analyzing the μ momentum spectrum in this frame we find B(B+→μ+νμ)=(5.3±2.0±0.9)×10−7 with a one-sided significance of 2.8 standard deviations over the background-only hypothesis. This translates to a frequentist upper limit of B(B+→μ+νμ)<8.6×10−7 at 90% confidence level. The experimental spectrum is then used to search for a massive sterile neutrino, B+→μ+N, but no evidence is observed for a sterile neutrino with a mass in a range of 0–1.5 GeV. The determined B+→μ+νμ branching fraction limit is further used to constrain the mass and coupling space of the type II and type III two-Higgs-doublet models.
The selection of a specific site of attachment by a copepod parasite is determined by a set of mostly unknown factors. The spatial distribution of Nemesis lamna on the gill filaments of white sharks ...Carcharodon carcharias was investigated. The complete set of left gills
of 11 hosts was examined and the location, orientation and gender of each copepod noted. N. lamna exhibited a prevalent of 100% and a mean intensity of 74 individuals per shark. There was no relationship between the size of the host and the number of filaments per hemibranch or the
number of N. lamna attached to the host. Only 13.7% of the variation in number of individuals per hemibranch was due to the variation in the number of filaments per hemibranch, and most specimens (33.6%) were collected from the fourth holobranch. Most N. lamna (86.5%) were attached
to the dorsal and ventral quarters of the hemibranchs, of which 63.1% were attached to the outer hemibranchs. There was no site preference in terms of their position on the filaments, but most were attached with their cephalothoraces facing the incoming respiratory water flow, especially those
attached to the proximal quarter. The N. lamna infrapopulations on white sharks are aggregated, which is probably due to the need to reproduce.
Using data samples of 89.5 fb−1, 711.0 fb−1, and 121.4 fb−1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider at center-of-mass energies 10.52, 10.58, and 10.867 GeV, ...respectively, we study the exclusive reactions e+e−→γχcJ (J=0, 1, 2) and e+e−→γηc. A significant γχc1 signal is observed for the first time at s=10.58 GeV with a significance of 5.1σ including systematic uncertainties. No significant excesses for γχc0, γχc2, and γηc final states are found, and we set 90% credibility level upper limits on the Born cross sections (σB) at 10.52 GeV, 10.58 GeV, and 10.867 GeV. Together with cross sections measured by BESIII at lower center-of-mass energies, the energy dependency of σB(e+e−→γχc1) is obtained.
