New heat conversion technologies need to be developed and improved to take advantage of the necessary increase in the supply of renewable energy. The Organic Rankine Cycle is well suited for these ...applications, mainly because of its ability to recover low-grade heat and the possibility to be implemented in decentralized lower-capacity power plants.
In this paper, an overview of the different ORC applications is presented. A market review is proposed including cost figures for several commercial ORC modules and manufacturers. An in-depth analysis of the technical challenges related to the technology, such as working fluid selection and expansion machine issues is then reported. Technological constraints and optimization methods are extensively described and discussed. Finally, the current trends in research and development for the next generation of Organic Rankine Cycles are presented.
•This paper is a polyvocal discussion on wisdom that includes the fictional voices from researchers of 2068.•We use “fictional abstracts” to elicit ideas and discuss present-day researchers’ hopes ...and fears about future computing.•While the design of technology can be informed by wisdom, we cannot imagine futures where technology itself is wise.•Technological progress and wisdom change at different speeds which can create conflicts with our understanding of wisdom.•What might sound like open-ended conversations can be seen as a precursor by designers and engineers to build “wise systems”.
In this paper, we present a structured report on a dialogue on the Future of Computing and Wisdom. The dialogue consists of a recorded and transcribed discussion between researchers and practitioners in the field of Human–Computer Interaction that was held at workshop in conjunction with the 10th Nordic Conference on Human–Computer Interaction in September 2018. However, the dialogue also encompasses workshop participants’ preparatory work with writing “fictional abstracts” – abstracts of yet-to-be-written research papers that will be published in 2068. The polyvocal dialogue that is reported upon thus includes not just the voices of researchers and practitioners who attended the workshop, but also includes the voices of the future researchers of 2068 who wrote the abstracts in question as well as the voices of the organisms, individuals, intelligent agents and communities who are the subjects, victims, beneficiaries and bystanders of wise (or unwise) future computing systems.

In this paper we explore the design of a design fiction as an iterative process of interweaving storytelling and world building. With the design fiction Data Economy, we present how we have imagined ...and externalized a data obsessed future through a protagonist, narratives, plots and diegetic prototypes; this includes the short stories Memoirs of Jesse, the short film Data Economy and a number of designed objects. Data Economy explores how far people are willing to go to satisfy their individualistic hunger to consume by creating a tension between consumerism and data collection. By analyzing the design fiction, we discuss social and ethical issues of data privacy. With a focus on narratives, plots, protagonists and diegetic prototypes, we argue that the designerly potential of design fiction lies in its ability to interweave the literary methods of storytelling with the designerly methods of world building.
State-of-the-art reliability assessment typically starts from a given circuit topology, for which the most suitable components are selected using a Physics of Failure analysis. This paper, however, ...addresses the topology selection stage, which is the foundation in designing reliable converters. Based on an overview of the reliability performance of different components, a methodology is presented as a guideline for comparing topologies to one another. The focus is directed at practical consequences associated with certain designs. Furthermore, an overview is provided on the latest developments in component technology reliability improvements. The developed methodology is mainly intended for demanding applications, where long lifetimes are required or elevated ambient temperatures are present. After the topology selection, an overview of possibilities is given that allows further increasing converter availability. Finally, the methodology is applied to the design of module level converters for building integrated photovoltaics, which is a high temperature application with a high desired lifetime. A prototype and experimental results are presented.
The aim of this study was to gain insight in the importance of job demands and resources and the validity of the Job Demands Resources Model across sectors.
We used one-way analyses of variance to ...examine mean differences, and multi-group Structural Equation Modeling analyses to test the strength of the relationships among job demands, resources, burnout, and work engagement across the health care, industry, service, and public sector.
The four sectors differed in the experience of job demands, resources, burnout, and work engagement, but they did not vary in how (strongly) job demands and resources associated with burnout and work engagement.
More attention is needed to decrease burnout and increase work engagement, particularly in industry, service, and the public sector. The Job Demands-Resources model may be helpful in this regard, as it is valid across sectors.
We present a scalable synthesis of a versatile MTX reagent with an azide ligation handle that allows rapid γ‐selective conjugation to yield MTX fusion compounds (MFCs) appropriate for MASPIT, a ...three‐hybrid system that enables the identification of mammalian cytosolic proteins that interact with a small molecule of interest. We selected three structurally diverse pharmacologically active compounds (tamoxifen, reversine, and FK506) as model baits. After acetylene functionalization of these baits, MFCs were synthesized via a CuAAC reaction, demonstrating the general applicability of the MTX reagent. In analytical mode, MASPIT was able to give concentration‐dependent reporter signals for the established target proteins. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the sensitivity obtained with the new MTX reagent was significantly stronger than that of a previously used non‐regiomeric conjugate mixture. Finally, the FK506 MFC was explored in a cellular array screen for targets of FK506. Out of a pilot collection of nearly 2000 full‐length human ORF preys, FKBP12, the established target of FK506, emerged as the prey protein that gave the highest increase in luciferase activity. This indicates that our newly developed synthetic strategy for the straightforward generation of MFCs is a promising asset to uncover new intracellular targets using MASPIT cellular array screening.
The future of fusion: A versatile MTX reagent allowed rapid γ‐selective conjugation to yield fusion compounds appropriate for MASPIT, a three‐hybrid system enabling the identification of mammalian cytosolic proteins that interact with small molecules of interest. Examination of MTX fusion compounds of three structurally diverse molecules in MASPIT demonstrates the versatility of this approach to uncover new intracellular targets.
