Since 1975, nonphilology beginning students at the U Palacky receive a two-semester oral-lang-oriented course connected to a more advanced course. Quantitative reductions & changes in traditional ...course material were made. Oral orientation emphasizes the foreign sound system. The material consists of nine lessons with corresponding slides & tapes & a grammar survey. The choice of grammatical phenomena is considerably reduced to concentrate on the acquisition of elementary verbal abilities. Vocabulary choice includes high communication value Vs: 28 regular weak Vs & 34 irregular strong & modal Vs. Besides Vs the total vocabulary includes 258 items. Lessons I-IV & VI-VIII have the following sections: introduction, text, sounds & pronunciation, ie, speaking exercises, grammatico-lexical commentary, text dialogue, exercises, overview of important phraseology, explanations, instructions for actualization exercises, & instructions for homework.
