Regional development policy has to respond to the challenges of a global, informational and networked economy. In order to achieve a regional-innovationfocused competitive advantage it is important ...for the region to have the ability both to access and generate knowledge, and to access to knowledge networks faster than its competitive regions. In this paper, challenges in the area of eRegion development are discussed and some eRegion development initiatives are presented. Some activities from the period 2000-2006 are elaborated on, as are current initiatives in the Central Europe eRegion. Possible suggestions and some questions are concerning about a growing need in the eRegion for innovative ways of business, government and academic collaboration as part of a continuous process.
Slovenia is a new country, being built in a world of rapid change. It has embraced electronic commerce in a variety of collaborative internal and external fashions to assist in the building process. ...This paper illustrates how technology in general, and electronic commerce in particular, is being used to give Slovenia a self-supporting infrastructure and an international presence. Special attention is given to the use of group support systems (GSS) in promoting electronic commerce. Accumulated evidence, including an example from the Slovenian Ministry of Science and Technology, illustrates how cooperation between academics, government, and industry is achieved. Slovenia's use of GSS and electronic commerce may become a model for developing and developed countries facing large complex problems with multiple stakeholders.
In this paper, we describe experience with teaching e-Commerce courses at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Maribor that focus on e-marketplace adoption. E-marketplaces are new ...business models using recent e-commerce technologies. Our teaching model presents several approaches. Some examples are: European Commission sponsored research projects like eMarketServices, eBusiness and W@tch reports. Also use of e-marketplace technology platforms (Oracle Exchange) for hands-on experiences and prototype development for company-sponsored student projects. This model demonstrates an example of knowledge transfer from research and technology providers to companies and other organizations using student-led projects.
