Die Korrespondenzen ...gelten verschiedensten Themen, wechseln zwischen Erzählung und Belehrung, Persönlichem und Allgemeinem und richten sich an gelehrte Freunde, Machthaber und andere Zeitgenossen. Sie sind eine Fundgrube zur Geistesgeschichte. Nachdem Band 1 bereits im Jahr 2005 erschienen ist, wird die erste Gesamtausgabe der berühmten 24 Bücher der Epistolae familiares in deutscher Sprache mit dem jetzt vorgelegten zweiten Band (Buch 13-24) abgeschlossen. Die Briefe wurden von einer ausgewiesenen Petrarca-Kennerin, Prof. Dr. Berthe Widmer, aus dem Lateinischen übersetzt. Der Übersetzung ist ein detaillierter Stellenkommentar zu heute weithin unbekannten Realien beigegeben, z.B. zu erwähnten Personen, Autoren und Orten. Außerdem werden die Briefe durch ein kommentiertes Verzeichnis der Adressaten sowie eine Übersicht über die Briefinhalte erschlossen. Eine ausführliche Einleitung verortet die Briefe im Kontext des Gesamtwerks und der Zeit.
