This article aims to reflect on the knowledge of healing by “puxação” doneby an Amazonian woman residing in the riverside community of Jacarequara, located in the rural area of the city of Barcarena ...–PA, Brazil. Affectionately known by everyone in her community as Dona Zita, or Tia Zita, this Amazon woman exercises an important role in her living space: the knowledge of healing by “puxação”, something that, according to her, was born with healing practices. Among the most relevant knowledge exercised by Dona Zita, it can be highlighted her ability to work with body and bone dislocations resulting from different causes. The knowledge exercised by Dona Zita allowed us to reflect in this article on the importance of these practices in Amazonia communities where access to medical services becomes scarce in case of emergency. To construct this article, it was necessary to establish dialogues in the field of Social Anthropology based on the works of authors Natália Costa (2017) and Florêncio Vaz Filho (2016). In the relation to the trajectory of the methodology used in the article, we were guided by Oral History instruments, using the perspectives of Hampaté Bá (2010) and Queiroz (1988).
This article will focus on Zita of Bourbon-Parma, last Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary’s visual representation on postcards between 1911 and 1922. It argues that Zita was consistently ...presented in the roles of wife, mother, and Landesmutter (mother of the country). On the face of it, it seems simple that Zita’s self-perception was wrapped up in the roles of wife and mother as coloured by her Catholic faith. However, this article shows that the picture is more complicated. While the roles themselves remained static, the way in which they were imagined and manifested changed as Zita underwent transitions in her life and status. These were influenced not only by her Catholicism, but also by external political forces and needs. Images of Zita and the imperial family were meant to provide the public with images of stability and domesticity in a time of great upheaval. Postcards produced in exile are evidence of a clear initiative on the family’s part and were used to keep the family in the public imagination and therefore maintain or create support for a potential restoration. It is possible to trace a line up to the present day, where Zita’s image continues to be used as a result of her status as Servant of God in the Catholic Church.
Dr. Zita Šimėnaitė passed away on the 1st of August, 2016. She was a researcher who made a great contribution to the still developing field of Lithuanian lexicography. Between 2005 and 2014, she ...conducted work of the Lexicographical Centre in the Institute of the Lithuanian Language in Vilnius. Her academic and intellectual life was devoted to her two great passions: collaborating with other linguists in creation of new scientific dictionaries of the Lithuanian language, and artistic photography. She made a valuable contribution to the great dictionary of the Lithuanian language (Lietuvių kalbos žodynas; LKŽ) via enriching files, editing and developing numerous entries, as well as preparing an electronic version of the dictionary (www.lkz.lt). She co-authored the phraseological dictionary of the Lithuanian language (2002) and the dictionary for learners of the Lithuanian language (2000, second edition 2010). She conducted many projects in the field of monolingual and translational lexicography. She also popularized ideas and work of Lithuanian lexicographers during symposia and conferences in her home country and abroad. She actively participated in the scientific exchange and cooperation between the Institute of the Lithuanian Language and the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.
