Ernesto Sábato explora la condición humana mediante una crítica a la imagen moderna del mundo con todas sus implicaciones, lo que sugiere un movimiento doble entre la abstracción y la implosión del ...universo conjetural de las ficciones, manteniendo viva una tensión compleja e insuperable: la necesidad humana, tanto de explicación como de inmersión. El propósito de esta reflexión es justamente ahondar en la condición humana como problema a partir de su obra ensayística y mediante una concepción de la novela contemporánea, en tanto poder que traza infinitas posibilidades sobre lo real.
In 1964, Sudamericana Publishing House printed in Buenos Aires the second edition of the Spanish version of the novel Ferdydurke (1937) by Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz. Apparently, it was ...identical to the first publication in Spanish (by Argos Publishing House, Buenos Aires, 1947); however, the text had been extensively revised according to Ernesto Sabato’s indications. Furthermore, a new prologue written by Sabato substituted the previous initials materials. This article documents and explains how this revision, the new prologue, the decision to publish in Sudamericana, and the publicity given to the book were conscious decisions either by Gombrowicz or by Sabato in search of editorial success. Their final goal was to place the novel and its author in a visible and privileged place in the Argentine and Spanish-speaking literary system. The study also focuses on the textual differences between Ferdydurke’s first and second Spanish editions: it tries to explain how and why specific changes were made and the implications of these changes.
El propósito del artículo es ofrecer una lectura del libro Antes del fin, de Ernesto Sabato, catalogado como memorias y, por ende, vinculable al repertorio de las escrituras autobiográficas que se ...produjeron en América Latina a finales del siglo XX. Para esto apelamos a las nociones de pensamiento autobiográfico, yo tejedor, cuidado de sí y parresía, relacionadas con la teoría de la autobiografía y la hermenéutica del sujeto. Sustentamos la idea de que lejos del pesimismo propiode la vejez melancólica, a Sabato lo anima una actitud esperanzada frente a los jóvenes, a quienes invita a luchar por la preservación de la utopía. Con esto esperamos no solo resaltar la importancia de la obra autobiográfica del escritor argentino, sino abrir la posibilidad para estudiarlo en función de la tradición de la Literatura del Yo en América Latina que él ayudó a consolidar.

En este artículo se abordará el análisis de la aparición y el tratamiento particular de varios aspectos de la novela gótica que Ernesto Sábato (1911-2011) llevó a cabo en sus novelas Sobre héroes y ...tumbas (1961) y Abbadón el exterminador (1974). El autor se sirvió de las figuras y motivos de esta corriente literaria para sustentar una temática que fue fundamental a lo largo de su carrera y a través de la cual desarrolló su obra novelística: la irrupción de lo irracional en el plano ficcional.
Using Charles Mauron's methodology called "psychocriticism", this paper tries to expose Ernesto Sábato's "personal myth". His three novels, The Tunnel (El túnel, 1948), On Heroes and Tombs (Sobre ...héroes y tumbas, 1961) and Abaddón the Exterminator (English translation The Angel of Darkness, original Abaddón, el Exterminador, 1974), disclose, if their plots are superimposed, an archetypal triangle of characters. This personal diagram is formed by the figures of the neophyte (Castel, Martin, Sábato), of the "medusa" women (María, Alejandra, Soledad) and of the blind person (Iribarne, Fernando, Rojas). The neophyte is generally initiated by the "dragonwoman" into becoming a blind person. Losing one's eyes and sight has been, since the Oedipus myth, correlated with incest. Behind Sábato's obsession with blindness, there appears to be an oedipal conflict, namely the anxiety provoked by incestuous desires and castration fears.
Written in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the American Economic Review, this paper recounts the history of the journal. The recounting has an analytic core that sees the American Economic ...Association as an organization supplying goods and services to its members, one of which is the Review. Early in its history the Review was a multipurpose publication with highly disparate content. Over time the economics profession expanded and more economics research was produced, primarily in the form of journal articles. Editors accommodated this shift by allocating more resources to the refereeing and editing process and more space to research papers.
