Translators and interpreters have always played a key role as intercultural mediators, however, their biographies and functions as active agents of cultural change have only recently started to be ...studied. Following the sociological and material turn in translation studies, there has been a growing interest in the figure of the literary translator, not as a category of the translation process, but as a living human being who not „only” produces texts, but influences cultural transfer, introduces new poetics and shapes literary canons. Nowadays, researchers point to the necessity of describing the place and role of translators not only within Translation Studies, but above all, in the network of social contacts and relationships. The sociology of translators includes such issues as the status of translators in different cultures, pay rates, place and conditions of work, the public discourse of translation, i.e. the manifestations of the public image of the translating profession, which is visible, for example, in the press or in literary works. This area also encompasses research on translators’ attitudes towards their work, as revealed in essays, interviews, prefaces and translators’ archives. The paper focuses on the biography of the translator, placed in a broad historical and social context and thus, in the cultural and sociological dimensions of translator studies. In examining the biography of the Polish translator Bronisław Zieliński, the methodology of microhistory (adapted for translation studies by Jeremy Munday) will be used and combined with Anthony Chesterman’s theoretical proposal of translator studies.

In 1959, on the Kansas high plains, two ex-convict drifters fell upon a defenseless farm family, slaying them 'in cold blood'. As the subject of a book widely regarded as the first of the modern true ...crime genre—Truman Capote's In Cold Blood—the murdered and murderers live on in the spectral, haunting the minds of the public as the horrors of random crimes and senseless violence. Paying close attention to the cultural production of both the present and absent, this paper considers how violence haunts commonplace geographies and the imaginations of everyday actors, through the lens of banal crime reporting and celebrated true crime novels. Doing so, it offers unique context and insight into the production of suspect identities and the social insecurities that underpin everyday life.

I examine the specific role played by automobility in the commission and narrative rendition of era-defining or (as these writers might frame it) world-ending true crime, especially their reaction to the apocalyptic indications of the Manson Family murders. Despite their starkly differentiated literary personas, both Didion and Thompson used themes of speed and travel to distance themselves from Manson, and yet both ultimately exploited such "little fellas" (both the impoverished and socially marginalized Charles Manson and elsewhere the Hells Angels) to enrich their own literary fame.
El periodismo narrativo suele contar todo tipo de historias y eventos de carácternoticioso, entre ellos, las crónicasde viaje, que a lo largo del tiempo han sido escritaspor literatos y periodistas. ...En las crónicas predomina la narratividad y el empleo de figuras literarias, las cuales sirven para proporcionarle matiz y realce artístico al texto. Algunos representantes de este tipo de narraciones son Bartolomé de las Casas, Pedro Cieza de León, Stendhal, Honoré de Balzac, Ernest Hemingway y Albert Camus. En este estudio se plantean los objetivos de analizar, comparar y establecerel estilo y las herramientas del periodismo narrativo que utilizan dos crónicas que pertenecen al periodismoliterario, y que corresponden a dos autores latinoamericanos: Alma Guillermoprieto, autoracontemporánea y Rubén Darío, autormodernista. Son dos crónicas que describen sus experiencias y lo que significa para cada uno el viajea Nicaragua (país centroamericano), travesía que ocurre en épocas diferentes. Esta investigación es descriptiva-comparativa, no experimental y cualitativa. Se emplea la técnica de análisis de contenido y su instrumento es la matriz de análisis. La población es igual a la muestra: una crónica de cada autor.
