The state of the issue: The current type of environmental consciousness determines the behavior of people in relation to the environment. Environmental education is a part of the integral pedagogical ...process of any educational institution, aimed at the systematic knowledge assimilation about the environment, society, development of practical skills and environmental activities. Environmental education is aimed at the formation of environmental culture of the individual to protect the environment. Material and Methods: The main method of research is testing, which promotes the study of environmental consciousness development level and its structural components among the students. Also in the process of research were used: methods of research and regulatory sources; sociopsychological diagnostics, psycho-diagnostic techniques; mathematical methods and methods of computer data processing. Results: The authors identified and justified the structural and content characteristics of environmental consciousness. The data obtained during the study of the structural components of the student environmental consciousness are compared. Individual ecological consciousness is understood by the authors as a relatively stable integral mental education of the subject, which is formed in the process of environmental training, characterized by the level of environmental knowledge, attitudes, relations to nature, intentions that determine a holistic environmentally-oriented behavior aimed at protecting the environment. Conclusions: The effective formation of ecological consciousness, in accordance with the requirements of modern society, can be when there is a designed diagnostic toolkit that allows monitoring at each stage of ecological consciousness formation. In the structure of individual ecological consciousness four structural components can be allocated: cognitive, valuablemotivational orientation, cognitive.
Purpose - This paper aims to re-examine the determinants of ecologically conscious consumer behaviour (ECCB) by analysing the green consumer profile (socio-demographic and psychographic variables), ...building on the work of Straughan and Roberts. Moreover, the study explores the determinants of effective green purchase behaviour (GPB) considering ECCB and green purchase intention (GPI) previously evaluated.Design methodology approach - The authors conducted a quantitative study based on an online survey. Data collection was implemented in two different phases: in the first phase ECCB, GPI and profiling variables were measured. One month later, the same respondents evaluated their effective GPB. Through path analysis the effects of ECCB and GPI on GPB were measured.Findings - The results show that psychographic variables, with emphasis on perceived consumer effectiveness (PCE) and altruism, are more relevant than socio-demographics in explaining ECCB. The consumers with higher ECCB have shown higher green purchase intention (GPI). ECCB has a positive impact on GBP, higher than GPI, which in turn mediates that relationship.Research limitations implications - The research results may lack generalizability. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the proposed propositions further.Practical implications - The paper provides evidence that whenever ecological consciousness is high, the gap between GPI and GPB is less evident, which provides clear evidence that an understanding of green consumer profiles and behaviour can enable organizations to respond better to new management challenges.Originality value - This paper provides a comprehensive understanding about the green consumer profile and behaviour, including the effect of GPI on GPB, and which contribute to the coordination of future marketing strategies to target this segment.
The article substantiates the urgency of the problem of ecology, environmental protection, development of environmental awareness of the world population. Environmental education is a process that ...should be implemented at each level of education. It is proved that public awareness of environmental protection is an important element in the process of globalization. The increasing amount of waste caused also by the COVID-19 pandemic creates many threats to the environment. The authors believe that continuous increasing of human awareness is possible by means of staff, teachers, vocational training, and the various information campaigns implementation. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles can support activities conducted by schools or other educational institutions dealing with ecological issues in Poland. Through specialized functionalities, drones can effectively show the existing threats to the natural environment. This type of activity may contribute to the visualization of pollution, fires, floods, or other dangerous environmental phenomena. It is emphasized that photos or videos data can be used in the general education system. The possibilities of primary and general secondary education in the formation of ecological knowledge and skills of children and youth are determined. The analysis of the content of the curriculum for Polish schools, including lessons in geography, biology, technology, chemistry, ethics, basics of entrepreneurship, and others, on their environmental orientation was carried out. Emphasis is placed on the necessity to improve teachers’ skills, their non-formal education by means of environmental seminars, training, workshops, etc.
A more empathic inclusion of non-human beings within our human universe can improve the conditions of coexistence between humans and non-humans. In this regard, the effort to understand the lives of ...non-human agents participates in the development of ecological consciousness. Lawrence could play a role here, through the remarkable quality of what he writes about non-human animals. In “Fish,” he manages to offer a poetic rendering of the sensitive existence of fish, doing so in an astonishing way. But the same poem also points to the impossibility of adequately describing life forms as remote from our conditions of living as is the case for fish. Lawrence seems to be admitting to the impossibility of what, at the same time, the poem is performing, in a manner that is surprisingly effective. This “contradiction” can be regarded as a model of “critical anthropomorphism,” accounting for both proximity and distance, anthropomorphism and dehumanization, offering to the reader the poem as both an enterprise in perspective-taking and an awareness of its limits. A conclusion to be drawn could be that the most appropriate relation towards non-human agents would be the merging of two quite different components: both an effort to understand and a skepticism about the very possibility of any true understanding of what non-humans really are.
PurposeThis research focuses on the consumption behavior of young consumers by examining their ecological consciousness and several self-oriented and psychological variables (fashion-orientation, ...frugality and psychological ownership toward the environment) that may trigger their sustainable purchase behavior. The research used “Psychological Ownership Theory” to examine sustainable purchase behavior in the context of apparel consumption.Design/methodology/approachTo gather data, a multi-method approach is used, including a scenario-based choice experiment (n = 62) and a structured survey (n = 338) using an online self-administered questionnaire. Data analysis was done using SPSS AMOS version 25 and PROCESS SPSS macro.FindingsThe results of the two studies revealed the mediation effect of “psychological ownership toward the environment” between ecological consciousness and sustainable purchasing behavior. Furthermore, fashion-orientation was found to be a significant moderating variable influencing sustainable purchase behavior; however, the impact of frugality was insignificant.Originality/valueThis research is one of the first that examined the mediation impact of psychological ownership of the environment in sustainable purchasing behavior using multi-method. The research focuses on the ecological consciousness of young consumers that develop psychological ownership.
The aim: The purpose of the study is to develop a scientifically grounded methodology for the formation of ecological consciousness among students on the activity basis, taking into account the ...interdisciplinary approach in the process of extracurricular work.
Materials and methods: The research was conducted during 2016-2021 on the basis of pedagogical faculty of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (PNU, Ukraine) in several stages. At the theoretical and diagnostic stage, the state of problem development in the scientific literature was studied; international documents on environmental protection and sustainable development were studied; domestic pedagogical experience was analyzed and generalized; through interviews, questionnaires, observations, interviews a statement experiment was carried out, which resulted in initial data on the state of environmental knowledge of future professionals, study the results of students' acquisition of environmental knowledge in university, their attitude to environmental protection, willingness to improve their knowledge of nature. 200 students were involved in the experiment. Also, students from the Warsaw Medical University (WMU, Poland) were interviewed.
Results: The ecological consciousness formation among future specialists has to be done on the activity basis. It should be a purposeful and completely voluntary process, taking into account the students' interests on interdisciplinary basis, using traditional methods (narration, conversation, lecture, etc.), but with an emphasis on the activity basis. Environmental education in higher education institutions should gain the status of a strategic large-scale and high priority course, with expanded and updated content, form and methods of training, which are based on the activity basis.
Conclusions: Forms and methods of ecologic and humanistic nature forming the ecological consciousness of a person create a model of positive moral and social behavior; forming such a behavior among students will ensure the nature preservation on planet Earth.
The article is devoted to the analysis of the role that environmental education and upbringing play in the formation of eco-friendly awareness and thinking. The author outlines that at the moment, it ...is becoming clear that it is impossible to overcome the ecological crisis exclusively by technical means. It is also noted that the creation of a system of environmental education and upbringing is one of the most important ways to overcome the environmental crisis. The result of the work of such a system should be the formation of a developed eco-friendly awareness among all age and social groups.
Theoretical bases. The features of environmentalism and the principles of eco-friendly awareness formulated by N.F. Reimers are reviewed; the main requirements for modern environmental education are analyzed. Special attention is paid to ecological culture in the philosophy of ecology. The scientific and educational projects in the field of ecology aimed at the exchange of experience and practical skills between the older and younger generations are described. As part of the course "History and philosophy of science" at the Institute of philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, postgraduate students of biological specialties are taught a course on the basics of bio-and ecophilosophy to develop a holistic worldview in the field of science under study.
It is concluded that environmental education contributes to the development of eco-friendly awareness, ecological culture and eco-friendly thinking, which is the most important condition for overcoming the environmental crisis and the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature.
Taking into account the current trends of globalization, digitalization, actualization of "green" innovations in the life of mankind, the educational policy of civilized countries is dominated by the ...problem of the cultural layer of the individual. In this regard, scientists are actively analyzing the leading factors, in particular, the process of formation of the ecological culture of the younger generation. Researchers have already assessed the advantages of a value-based psychological approach that determines the understanding of the role of environmental consciousness in the development of an individual's eco-culture, as well as a structural-component representation of the phenomenon of "ecological consciousness". This made it possible, on the one hand, to comprehend the problem raised from the point of view of the ecological culture of the individual in the period of mature adolescence, where the key is environmental consciousness (a fusion of environmental knowledge, assessment of the environmental situation, environmental behaviour); on the other hand, to detail the local history principle, taking as a basis the regional identity of the Ukrainian Danube, which is associated with the Danube River, its transboundary role in the formation of the ecological consciousness of the student youth of the united Europe. The conducted psychological discourse made it possible to establish that the content of the development of the ecological culture of the individual and its parameter - ecological etiquette, is mainly studied within the framework of the subject specificity of cultural studies and pedagogy. Meanwhile, practitioners of higher education feel the need for a complete understanding of them, which is possible as a result of research into the specifics of the psychological support of these processes. This was the purpose of our study, and its main methods were: a thematic questionnaire, including two options for closed questions - self-evaluative judgments of the respondent regarding the degree of manifestation of environmental etiquette and awareness of the problems of the Danube ecology, the role of student social and environmental initiatives in intensifying the process of European integration.
