In this study of how daily newspapers in America have developed electronic publishing ventures, Pablo Boczkowski shows that new media emerge not just in a burst of revolutionary technological change ...but by merging the structures and practices of existing media with newly available technical capabilities. His multi-disciplinary perspectives of science and technology, communication, and organization studies allow him to address the connections between technical, editorial, and work facets of new media. This approach yields analytical insights into the material culture of online newsrooms, the production processes of new media products, and the relationships between offline and online dynamics.
Boczkowski traces daily newspapers' early consumer-oriented non-print publishing initiatives, from the now-forgotten videotex efforts of the 1980s to the rise of the World Wide Web in the mid- 1990s. He then examines the formative years of news on the Web during the second half of the 1990s, when the content of online newspapers varied from simple reproduction of the print edition to new material with interactive and multimedia features. With this picture of the recent history of non-print publishing as background, Boczkowski provides ethnographic, fly-on-the-wall accounts of three innovations in content creation: the Technology section of the New York Times on the Web, which was initially intended as the newspaper's space for experimentation with online news; the Virtual Voyager project of the HoustonChronicle.com, in which reporters pushed the envelope of multimedia journalism; and the Community Connection initiative of New Jersey Online, in which users became content producers. His analyses of these ventures reveal how innovation in online newspapers became an ongoing process in which different combinations of initial conditions and local contingencies led publishers along divergent paths of content creation.
Este trabajo examina el aspecto formal de las manchetas, así como la comunicación visual y el aporte funcional de los bloques de cabecera en la prensa online española de información general, con el ...propósito de averiguar las pautas comunicativas y el sustento práctico que aportan al usuario del medio. La presente investigación emplea la metodología del análisis de contenido y el registro de los datos se realiza a través de un instrumento de análisis de elaboración propia conformado, en su mayoría, por variables manifiestas. La muestra está compuesta por los diez primeros diarios españoles generalistas del ranking de audiencias. El estudio pone de relieve que la mancheta mantiene su carácter identitario y una dominante ubicación de jerarquía, sin embargo, el bloque de cabecera se articula mediante un código visual independiente, sustentado en el uso de los grafismos y el color, tanto para diferenciar las opciones de navegación y los recursos ofertados, como para resaltar algunos de estos.
El presente artículo presenta un análisis con perspectiva de género de la participación del público en foros digitales de periódicos a partir de noticias relacionadas con mujeres y/o feminismo. Los ...objetivos de la investigación buscaban descubrir si existen mensajes de odio y, en su caso, las fórmulas con las que se legitiman. El trabajo de campo utilizó cuatro diarios publicados en la Comunidad Autónoma del País Vasco. El incremento de la capacidad participativa de las audiencias ha transformado las experiencias; en este contexto, este artículo se aproxima al activismo que emplea tecnologías comunicativas para disputar la hegemonía a través de la cual sus participantes proyectan sus códigos y valores en torno a un conflicto. Entre las conclusiones hay que destacar que se ha descubierto una continuidad con el machismo precedente, pero a través de nuevas fórmulas. Los hallazgos revelan la emergencia de un neomachismo que discute los avances en igualdad desde posiciones supuestamente igualitarias al tiempo que cuestiona a las propias mujeres mediante estrategias como el déficit de reconocimiento y el sexismo ambivalente. El estudio pone de manifiesto que los espacios de participación online reproducen las estructuras de poder de género tradicional: los medios digitales no desafían la naturaleza patriarcal.
Algorithms are an increasingly important element of internet infrastructure in that they are used to make decisions about everything from mundane music recommendations through to more profound and ...oftentimes life changing ones such as policing, health care or social benefits. Given algorithmic systems' impact and sometimes harm on people's everyday life, information access and agency, awareness of algorithms has the potential to be a critical issue. We, therefore, ask whether having awareness of algorithms or not corresponds to a new reinforced digital divide. This study examines levels of awareness and attitudes toward algorithms across the population of the highly digitized country of Norway. Our exploratory research finds clear demographic differences regarding levels of algorithms awareness. Furthermore, attitudes to algorithm driven recommendations (e.g., YouTube and Spotify), advertisements and content (e.g., personalized news feeds in social media and online newspaper) are associated with both the level of algorithm awareness and demographic variables. A cluster analysis facilitates an algorithm awareness typology of six groups: the unaware, the uncertain, the affirmative, the neutral, the sceptic and the critical.

This study reviews diffusion of video and video advertising on the Web sites of 400 community news outlets in the United States. Results suggest that while a significant number of community news ...outlets publish editorial videos online, video advertising lags behind larger publications. The study argues that elements such as circulation and size of a media corporation have little influence on the development and use of video and video advertising on community media Web sites in the U.S.
Introducción y objetivos. Esta investigación aborda la representación visual de la trata de seres humanos con fines de explotación sexual en los principales diarios digitales en España durante los ...años 2019-2020 (finalizado el Plan Integral de lucha contra la trata de mujeres y niñas con fines de explotación sexual 2015-2018 del Ministerio de Sanidad, Servicios Sociales e Igualdad). Objetivo. Analizar el tratamiento fotográfico que los diarios digitales españoles aplican en materia de trata de seres humanos con fines de explotación sexual. Metodología. Se basa en un análisis de contenido de las fotografías publicadas por los diarios digitales con mayor audiencia en el periodo mencionado, centrándose en aspectos generales de la noticia donde se ubica la fotografía; aspectos descriptivos de la fotografía; espacio de la representación; aspectos de contenido de la fotografía; elementos morfológicos y elementos sintácticos o compositivos. Resultados. Se destaca que solo un 10,5% de las fotografías muestra a los hombres demandantes de prostitución y a los proxenetas que se lucran y/o delinquen a través de la trata, poniendo el foco en las mujeres como prostitutas o víctimas o en los Cuerpos y Fuerzas de Seguridad del Estado. Así mismo, los medios siguen mostrando representaciones estereotipadas de las víctimas, sexualizadas a través de su pose o vestimenta. Conclusión. Puede afirmarse que, de las recomendaciones realizadas por las entidades, a pesar de los esfuerzos desplegados al respecto, todavía se está lejos de conseguir que dichas recomendaciones sean atendidas y aplicadas.

Under this framework, it was planned to create a digital newspaper for the deaf using a qualitative research method with a type of participatory action research (PAR), where it is the community itself that is trained to produce the news, record it, edit it and can direct the news. information in their natural language, the Colombian Sign Language (LSC by its acronym in Spanish). The sample to develop this study is made up of a group of 12 leaders from Asorcun as the Editorial Committee of the digital newspaper InfoEnSeñas.
