Signe Hebbe (1837-1925) was one of the most prominent Swedish actresses and singers. Since her stays in Paris, in the mid-1960s, having a deep admiration for Adelaide Ristori, she became her friend ...and pupil. Around this intimate friendship, in 1880, there was a possibility that Ristori could act a historical drama by Ibsen, which unfortunately did not happen. Following the teachings of Ristori, as well as of Lamperti and Ernesto Rossi, Hebbe introduced an acting style considered more realistic for the categories of the time and as a pedagogue, between 1877 and 1925, contributed to form a generation of important Swedish artists, transmitting the fundamental lesson of her Italian teachers to the mid-20th century.
Ernesto Laclau (1935-2014) was one of the major theoretical voices on the Left. His concept of antagonism is the cornerstone of his theory of hegemony and the organising concept in his political ...ontology. Oliver Marchart presents the main features of this ontology and tracks the development of antagonism from German Idealism via Marx to today's post-Marxism. In doing so, he demonstrates Laclau's significant contribution to the current 'ontological turn' in political thought. By carving out the philosophical implications of antagonism, Marchart proposes a new theory of 'thinking' as a collective, political and conflictual practice.
One of the ways of thinking God in contemporary philosophy is reflecting on violence. In fact, reflecting on violence implies always at the same time to refer to the difficulty of thinking about the ...co-implication of law and violence, a typical prerogative of divine action. From this perspective, political theology is concerned with the status and the possibilities or impossibilities of representing violence in a given political order. Three are the classical texts in the backdrop of this reflection on the hiatus between law and violence: Walter Benjamin Critique of Violence of 1921, Carl Schmitt's Political Theology of 1922 and Derrida's Force of Law of 1989. The article examines another paradigm, that of Ernesto Laclau. The article concludes that only a non-presentable idea of God as a negative fundament allows for a non-authoritarian political idea. But this non-presentable character is only made possible by revolutionary politics.

Until recently, the concept of “sustainability” appeared to occupy a central position in the politics of many Western democracies. Following the 2008 financial crisis, however, sustainability has ...been relegated to a position of secondary or tertiary significance. This article considers the rise and fall of sustainability through the theoretical lens of Ernesto Laclau, considering whether it may be seen as an example of an “empty signifier”. Through detailed engagement with Laclau's work, as well as both theoretical and empirical studies of the concept of sustainability, I argue that sustainability signifies the multiple failures of dominant discourses to recognise “the future” as a meaningful category. After examining the historical conditions under which sustainability was able to operate in this way, I go on to argue that the global financial crisis and neoliberalism more broadly have interrupted our capacity to think about the future, undermining the significance of sustainability, at least temporarily.
