A layup by Rodney Green gave La Salle a 58-47 lead with 16 minutes, 14 seconds remaining. Penn then scored 16 of the game's next 21 points to tie it at 63-63 on a Brian Grandieri layup with 11:26 to ...play. A three by Ibby Jaaber at the 10:04 mark gave Penn its first lead since early in the game at 68-67 with 11:26 left. Then, the already up-tempo game really got wings. The lead changed hands 10 more times down the stretch, with La Salle grabbing its last one on a layup by Green at 1:23 to make it 87-86. Grandieri followed that with a layup and was fouled. His ensuing miss found the hands of Mark Zoller, who was fouled by Yves Mekongo Mbala. Zoller calmly canned both. Following a La Salle turnover, Jaaber and forward Brennan Votel worked a beautiful give-and-go, with Jaaber depositing a 5-footer with 14.8 seconds left for a 92-87 lead. A layup by Green, a foul shot by Grandieri and a desperation trey by Paul Johnson just before the buzzer rounded out the scoring and gave first-year Penn coach Glen Miller his first City Series win.
Glen Miller, who replaced Fran Dunphy after spending seven years guiding the program at Brown, is taking over a new team for the third time. He inherited a Penn team that enters this season as the ...two-time defending Ivy League champion. With 11 letter-winners back, including Ivy League player of the year Ibby Jaaber, first-team selection Mark Zoller, and honorable mention Steve Danley, Penn is geared up to earn another NCAA berth as those players wind up their careers as Quakers.

The buzzer sounded. "Danny Garcia," Conrad begged. "Don't get hurt. You're tired and I don't want you to get hurt." His voice rose shrilly. "The hell with the money, just don't get hurt. You're ...through, Danny. You hear? You ain't got it any more."
