Dans le prolongement des précédents ouvrages de la collection « Chemins croisés », ce recueil d’articles de jeunes chercheurs anglicistes adopte une perspective pluridisciplinaire et transnationale ...afin de faire émerger de nouvelles pistes dans le champ d’étude des mécanismes de (dé)construction de l’altérité dans le monde anglophone. L’altérité se construit et se déconstruit d’abord dans le discours, par des mécanismes linguistiques de différenciation ou d’assimilation qui permettent de penser l’autre et de le désigner. Elle est travaillée en littérature et dans les arts représentatifs par des figures de dissociation ou de comparaison, par la fixation de types et la création de voix ; elle est constamment interrogée, remise en cause ou renversée par les littératures minoritaires ou postcoloniales. Elle forme enfin le cœur de problématiques identitaires collectives concernées par la définition et les rapports politiques entre groupes sociaux ou entre nations. Elle traverse l’histoire de la colonisation et de la décolonisation, des luttes sociales, des conflits armés, du rapport entre pouvoir et minorités. Le rapprochement de ces mécanismes linguistiques, culturels ou politiques dans le présent ouvrage permet d’offrir des éclairages multiples et de souligner des convergences possibles dans l’étude d’un sujet complexe et essentiel à l’heure du renouveau des discours identitaires.

Das vorliegende Buch möchte auf Grundlage von philosophischen, literarischen und sozialwissenschaftlichen Zugängen zur Identitätsfrage einen eben jene theologisch reflektierenden Beitrag zum ...aktuellen Identitätsdiskurs leisten. Hierfür wird anhand der philosophischen Entwürfe von D. Henrich, J.-P. Sartre und H. Plessner der Frage nachgegangen, was unter "Identität" zu verstehen ist. Diese Betrachtungen werden unter den Kategorien "Identität von Objekten", "Identität von Subjekten" und "personale Identität" in einer die menschliche Identitätsproblematik zusammenfassenden Weise in einen Zusammenhang gebracht. Diese wird durch eine Analyse literarischer Figuren aus Werken von M. Frisch, J.-P. Sartre und B. Brecht veranschaulicht. In Bezug auf die theologischen Anthropologien von K. Barth, P. Tillich und E. Jüngel soll ein theologisch reflektierender Zugang zur Identitätsfrage formuliert werden, der die wesentlich auf den Anderen verwiesene personale Seinsweise des Menschen sinnhaft als Identität durch Schöpfung, durch Versöhnung und in Vollendung begreift. Dieses Identitätsverständnis wird abschließend auf sozialwiss. Konzepte bezogen und auf seinen möglichen Beitrag zu einem auf Gewaltverzicht basierenden friedlichen Zusammenleben geprüft.

Social and political theorists have traced in detail how individuals come to possess gender, sex and racial identities. This book examines the nature of these identities. Georgia Warnke argues that ...identities, in general, are interpretations and, as such, have more in common with textual understanding than we commonly acknowledge. A racial, sexed or gendered understanding of who we and others are is neither exhaustive of the 'meanings' we can be said to have nor uniquely correct. We are neither always, or only, black or white, men or women or males or females. Rather, all identities have a restricted scope and can lead to injustices and contradictions when they are employed beyond that scope. In concluding her argument, Warnke considers the legal and policy implications that follow for affirmative action, childbearing leave, the position of gays in the military and marriage between same-sex partners.
